This has to be worth a punt - classic tax & insurance next year. Neoclassical bangernomics.

NCT only expired in July this year, so how bad can it be? If you are into retro '80s Opels ( and sure nobodys perfect) I think this fits the bill nicely. Gotta be worth putting a few quid into it?

    heres another rare yoke -

Is it just me or does the front valance look like it has been crafted from filler?

The fact that he has a 98 opel astral cabrio for 3k in winter and he only wants 5 for this doesn't exactly inspire confidence

Duke was it your friend who bought my Corsa A off of me?

To be fair he'd be doing well to get anything near €500 for that one judging from that photo alone. Add is gone though.

It was yeah. He still has it too

He has a lovely red K10 Micra too, they make a great pair

Oh yeah, how's he getting on with it? He wasn't very happy at the time iirc.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,084 ✭✭✭✭Duke O Smiley

He doesn't have very much time to do anything with cars thesedays, I haven't seen the corsa in a while to be honest.

If I recall he may have had one or two cars too many when he bought it :P Worse than me

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,903 ✭✭✭✭Toyotafanboi

A man after my own heart :P

He was pretty cranky at the time saying the head gasket was gone or something along those lines. I couldn't have made it clearer before he bought it that it was a €100 car that hadn't been driven in 7 years and that it was extremely sold as seen. Even at that, I don't believe the head gasket was gone.

How and ever, hopefully he sees it right, it'd be nice for it to live on, it's previous owners had been kind to it.

If the seller is honest and all it genuinely needs for the test is work done to sort out the exhaust its surely worth €350 with the 3 mths tax

Now this is a pretty car. Very rare colour. Half tempted myself!

I see what he did with the price :)

looks well in fairness, the plate makes it though, i'll bet you wouldn't be half as tempted without.

The paint on that 166 was a very expensive option when new. In fact I think it was at least 1k for it.
190 horses in that too :D

id like a few more exterior shots - there are only two from the rear - but it could be worth checking out

So do I and that is put it up far too high! Is that not seriously saucy money for it especially considering its out of test? It is an emotive subject here but whatever side of the fence you sit on you'd have to agree that his market is pretty limited in account of the motor tax following it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,815 ✭✭✭✭mickdw

Absolutely dreaming on the price imo and I say that as a past owner of a 166.
Without test 700 to 800 hundred if it's solid.

Cork reg? I'd pay extra to have that removed! It's the colour combo is what I was getting at and making me want to have it. Very rare to see a maintained one of these.

I agree. You'd probably pay closer to the €1k assuming certain jobs have been taken care of though.

I'd be more worried by the fact that he never answered the question about the timing belt.

To buy a car like that you want as much reassurance as possible!

    .

I was always under the assumption that the timing belts were handy enough on these cars? :D

    Agree on the reassurance though!

Probably looking at about €700 - €900. I had an E200 Merc done recently for my sister and it was €750 from a mate - the mercedes dealer wanted €2300+vat.

Its usually more involved than a belt ( theoretically they arent really meant to be replaced) and the chains are usually only from manufacturers.

If the car/engine is otherwise in excellent nick, might be worth it. But realistically, I cant see its value ever going much beyond €1300, so its tight.

Eyes wide open its like buying a car seller claims all it needs is good service. Usually follow by statement very reliable never cost me a penny in repairs. You just know all the neglect saved up is going to bite new owner.

Chain on the Saab would make me wonder about regular oil changes and engine oil ways silted up. It could be genuine but why take the risk when it's costly to repair

As easy just to dump a second hand engine in as its an engine out job anyway.

Good price for that if the ad is honest. Could probably ask €2500 for a tested 3dr diesel.

Would need to be thoroughly inspected, but a 02 Xj Sport with test until next August for €600. Ad says abs light is on and it looks a bit rough, but still, if theres nothing much wrong what a way to travel for the next few months

There might even be a straight panel on it somewhere.

Any takers for the Punto at €100 before I put it up on DoneDeal or something? Would prefer to see it go to a good home. :)

    EDIT: It's on Adverts.ie now.

€100? Ah come on GvidoR surely the headlights and tail-lamps alone are worth at least that to someone who might be looking for them - not that I'm suggesting you break the car either.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,815 ✭✭✭✭mickdw

Looks a very tidy car too. Someone nearby will get a bargain.
The problem you have is that the money is so small that it couldn't pay anyone to travel or trailer it too far.

I was thinking of breaking it but, ah, I don't know.

For a field car it's alright but I don't think they will bother putting it through the NCT. The problem is that I'm in the middle of nowhere which makes both buying and selling things difficult.
