I would love to know what Hugsie's actual postcount is... I think we need to approach the site-devs to get them to give us the figure. :P

It's when sitting in a pub called the Empire where you realise innocuous questions like "where are you from , are you Irish?" can give you the startings of the flight or fight response here in Belfast.

One forcefully confident "yes " later
And the guy asking you Breaks into his best McGregor impersonation
"We're not here to take part, we're here to take over!"

Instant calm followed by shouts for more beer.
    Weheyy!

I kind of want to go back through this forum and reinstate all of Hugsie's posts. But then she'd attack me in college.

If I ever got admin powers, or got a job in Boards HQ, my first order of business would be to reinstate them all tbh. Just for the lols.

My theory is Hugsie is actually a conglomerate of people, all using the same account.

I may have to suggest that to people at some point. You know, for an 'experiment'

Walked into a craft beer place in Belfast.
    Asked for ale reccomendation.
"Oh there's this but it's 7 pounds , is that okay?"
I thought we'll that's a bit steep but funk it, in the name of science I need to try it. Just for the hell of it. I'll never be here again.

I just spent E9.66 on a pint of ale and I'm underwhelmed.

It just tastes like ale. Regular old ale. Craft beer is insane.
Fair enough overheads are a bigger concern in a smaller production lines but my God it'd want to be brewed using the tears of unicorns to justify that.
I'll stick to my smithwicks methinks.

    Thats steep.

Very steep! What was the ale in question? If it was from somewhere like BrewDog or Thornbridge then it's to be expected, but most of the Irish ones should be nowhere near that price.

No one's prepared to admit that all beer tastes the same. Like, literally the exact same.

Because if they did admit that, they would be wrong. ;)

Every beer I've tasted, from the majority of the major commercial brands, down to hippy-dippy hipster craft beer, to weird Belgian beers my brother brought back with him, have tasted identical.

Give me vodka or whiskey any day tbh.

And what would your whiskey preference be? :)

I did a taster session at home with one of the lads a few nights ago. Three Irish whiskeys and a Scotch. It was the first time I really noticed the difference in the flavours from one kind to another.

I'm quite partial to Jameson, but really I'm not overly fussy to be honest. Needs to be over ice though.
Had some nice expensive stuff last year whose name I can't remember, but I was so hammered at the time I was just knocking it back tbh. :o

Ooh on the subject of whiskey. Did a tasting session at Teeling distillery in Dublin.
Very good. Like very good. Knocked Jameson out of the park.

And the craft was called ewe red I think or red ewe.

And it's not that beer tastes the same. Crafts tend to taste different but not majorly and that doesn't make them better;just different. If they can keep the flavour and scale up production and bring the cost down a bit fair enough I might make rebel red my staple over smithwicks. Slight fruity flavours or whatever don't justify two or three euros jump in price no matter how sophisticated you can pretend to be.

Sorry, meant to post about this before.

We decided not to hold them this year. There just wasn't enough activity on the forum to justify the amount of work that they entail, and there's been diminishing returns for the past 3 years for them.

All going well, they'll be back with a vengeance at the end of this year, just try and think of it as a cooling off period. :P
