Who cares, charity will be back next week asking for more money off people who work all week.

You seem like a wonderful specimen of humanity....

Brendan has been doing this for the last number of years and not a peep out of him about it then or now. SVP mentioned it and the papers got a hold of it.
You don't have to like the guy to acknowledge a generous deed well done without an ulterior motive.
Well done for keeping the notion alive that Ireland is still a nation of begrudgers.
The begrudgers line when all else fails
Did you ever hear of anonymous donations, when people request that no one can breathe a word about it.

I hate that show with an absolute passion, but there is no denying that Brendan O'Carroll really is an absolutely great guy, good on him.

Actually it tends to be quite fitting...

    begrudgery (bɪˈɡrʌdʒərɪ )
    Definitions
    noun
(Irish, informal) resentment of any person who has achieved success or wealth

So what? He is still giving a lot to needy people, which he doesn't have to do. What are you giving to needy people?

The charity has its own press team - it is good press for awareness of the charity.

The vast majority of people give to charity or volunteer their time because they get something back from it be it a sense of self-worth or feeling good about themselves or being seen as a decent sausage by others because most of us want to be liked and accepted and why would BOC be any different? He's only human like the rest of us. The most important thing is he's doing SOMETHING; people are being helped as a result of his efforts.

Yeah, but the Irish seem to do it so well

What a load of begrudging curmudgeons . I am sure that Brendan won't lose a wink of sleep over the views expressed here. Like him or not he's made it after years of trying and now lives in Florida. But he doesn't forget where he came from.

    I fooking hate this ****e!

There's an underlying assumption here (and in many other places) that many people know that U2 don't make generous charity donations.

    No such thing is known!

fair play to him, its threads like this that make me realise why I left Ireland, full of begrudging assholes with nothing good to say about anyone, even when they are doing something positive

    You've changed your begrudging tune.

Why would he request that no one can breath a word about it?

What would that achieve over and above the situation as it is now?
