Today I learned Fuelly has functionality for adding service reminders! Handy when you service your car yourself :)

Wouldn't you hate to be the one waiting for the car for a nice 161 plate only to hear that it burnt down on the way..
Wonder what the insurance would be regarding that.
In other news, picking up the Passat tomorrow :D

They generally use 1 litre of 5w-40 per 1000-1500 km

I suppose that would be normal enough for a high performance car like that. Still you may buy a drum of it if your doing any kind of mileage :pac:

Out of boredom was going through old photos on my phone and they all have dates on them. I noticed this how long I've kept cars shocking enough.

    Astra: 7 months
    Focus: 13 months
    Golf: 13 months
    Megane: 7 months and counting.

Will the Megane be the one to set the record. I seriously need to keep something for 2 years I mean even that is not that long there's plenty of people that keep cars for 5-10 years and think nothing of it.

Why do you need to keep it? If you sold it and bought something you preferred for the same or similar money then what's the problem? You don't need to keep anything, it's if you want to keep it:)

Oh I do agree with you. Life is too short too. But just when so many people keep cars for very long it just seems maybe soon for me to be changing them. I would undoubtedly be up money if I was still driving the Astra but I don't really see it as wasted money as they are kind of the only thing I spend any major money on as I don't really have an other expensive hobbies and don't drink or smoke. Plus I never lost much money on any of them made the guts of 1k on the Astra as it needed tlc when I bought it and I tidied it up myself didn't spend much on it.

But no your right I should definitely change the Megane this summer it's decided so :pac:

Longest car I ever kept was the 156, shortest was a ****box fiesta and the Honda would be the 2nd shortest I believe.
The Passat will have to be the longest this time.

I've had the civic over 3 years, which isn't a record, I had a Brava for 4 or 5 years, back when they were current.

Have mine a year and a month now, no plans to change for the next lifetime :pac:

I'm on car number 7. I kept my 1st, 2nd and 3rd car for a year, 4th car 2.5 years, 5th car a year and a half, 6th car 3 years and current car since September.

People do lots of different things. I really don't get your logic there at all.

I went through a run of changing cars very often for a whole host of reasons. I finally figured out the base of all the various reasons was that I was buying cars I didn't like. I went out and bought the 159 then as I always wanted one. I love it and haven't wanted anything else since.

Stop buying miserable sh1tboxes that knobs who know nothing about cars tell you you "should" have, but make you feel ill every time you see them. Buy once, buy right. Get something you like, that suits you and works for you. Drive, live long, prosper. I have the General nine years and I'm nowhere near bored yet. :D

True to a point. I had thought about it but went and test drove a few cars and realised there was nothing else I'd like. Gearbox and clutch has to be done now so I couldn't sell it with a clear conscious. Only other issue is I'm getting married and there is a lot of money tied up in it especially with the repairs it needs so if it does have to go after being repaired it will be the first car I've sold while still liking it.

In that case I'd be selling it and picking up a cheap car but I really don't think that makes sense no matter how useful the money would be. To be honest I've been stewing over it all evening and am a bit pissed off :o

Ye no maybe I phrased it wrong your right ultimately it makes no difference what other people do as its up to yourself what you want to do. People may think it's a waste of money changing so often but then you may see things they do as equally being a waste of money. I suppose whatever makes you happy hence why I've changed so often in the past I always liked having something different every so often also allowed me to learn alot about cars as you seem to always know more about a particular make and model after owning it.

In saying all that I'm still not fully sure what to get next and I'm not in a rush to find anything either really. I was thinking about buying a brand new car in 2017 but now I'm kind of steering back to some older stuff which id like to own at some stage so might pick something from that. I'm just thinking through it really, happy enough with the Megane at the moment anyway.

If you were to sell the Megane, and say buy an 04 320d, and save the difference - how would your parents react? I know they keep up the years, car wise.

I've never bought any car because someone said I should or said they were good. Infairness I've yet to hear anyone that knows nothing about cars say renaults are great all you get is oh they are heaps of sh!t that hasn't ever bothered me. I always liked everything I bought at least at the time of purchase anyway. Anything I've ever had I've liked maybe not loved but they all had the bits I liked and the bits I didn't. Trial and error I'll eventually find something I love and will probably never sell it and keep it as a second car.
