Masters was such a great man to kick points but always seemed to fall apart whenever he reached Croke Park. Still a shame he retired so young, loved watching him play..very easy on the eye. Very nice man too, a lot of people think he's an awful self-righteous so and so but he's a top gent. And a great man for the fashion, who could forget the one sock up one sock down trademark :pac:

Process on going was the news from the ccb meeting tonight regarding the senior football coach ...its nearly xmas and no coach yet this is sounding like a joke again ...a serious joke .

As always in cork nothing that should go smoothly does and again it seems the ccb are the problem and healy in a good interview weeks ago said he wanted mccarthy on board but hoped ccb would do whatever was needed to allow him end he's current role and become coach
I think this is not healy fault in he wanted mccarthy and to be fair once he got the job he appointment of mccarthy kissane Conor mccarthy and o sullivan pretty fast with each having defined roles and also saying no to dualism.
He acted promptly but now he's looking for a coach as he's original choice isn't an option and I agree it's not ideal cork are now still waiting for one and the selectors is still need to be resolved but I would say fair enough in apparently there looking at nemo but nemo still in a munster final.

Imo kissane should been upgraded to coach and it's easy to get an s and c coach or else gene o Driscoll ned English or Leahy even in have expirence if kissane was not coach
Stephen o brien would be a possibility as coach imo but not as a selector but maybe fair enough he would rather manage.

Billy sheehan of laois is linked to it and he won county with ucc and is kerry man and has done work shop leinster etc and is former Austin stacks man and while in the independent he wrote a great article on how to beat the blanket and the role of the sweeper and he should know having played that role himself and it was really article showed he knew the concepts of beating a blanket The same question imo that applies any coach is what expirence has he and while I do think he may have potential as a coach down the line i think going in to cork job with no senior club experience is imo not the best option as senior inter county coaching you must have some form of experience as you as the last management proved it's hard to learn on the job if you don't have experience.

If he is the coach and that's if he's the coach then it's a worry that a trend is developing in cork senior football that unproven coaches are deemed eligible for senior with little senior club expirence.
Healy back room team so far look good and he deserves huge credit for all he brought in so far but the coach will be hugely important.
It will be interesting to see who the coach and selector is as there seems to be a lot of names being mentioned.
Best of luck to nemo sunday and it should be interesting to watch oulart balleragh in leinster hurling as Cork coach frank flannery is coaching them.

I would agree and masters interview was very honest in he accepted he work rate was not what it should been and he couldn't complain about being dropped and counihan at the start correctly so showed admired ruthless selection to drop masters as modern game you need work rate.

I'm a huge fan of masters skill and he's views on football at times but he was correctly dropped and he did wait for the ball at times and in a different time would have been brilliant for cork but he was not suited to modern inter county but will be fine in the club game.

Depending where you read the names Billy Sheehan and Timmy Sheehan are mentioned. Nobody seems sure which one is linked

Both are Kerry men. Billy Sheehan ex Austin Stacks and Laois senior, won a county with UCC
Timmy Sheehan as far as I'm aware is an analyst on the games on Radio Kerry and writes with some papers in Kerry. Not sure of his club experience, etc.

But there seems confusion about which is actually rumoured to be in line for coach

It seems that the motion to have a straight whole county knock out U21 c'ship next year in both hurling and football was passed.

I think this will be an interesting c'ship and welcome the move

But I assume the divisional c'ships will still be taking place? Otherwise some players could only have one game seeing as there is no back door in the county u21 proposal

The echo has billy sheehan from kerry through laois. If this is true we are a ****ing joke, allowing a new coach start/experiment with the cork senior football team.......biggest team he has coached is some intermediate crowd in wicklow. Maybe ita the other sheehan but billy sheehan has done nothing to suggest je can coach a team with semi final aspirations, only in ****ing cork

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,454 ✭✭✭big_drive

By all accounts speaking to those who knew him in UCC it seems he can easily rub people up the wrong way so reports aren't great.

Playing inter county doesn't automatically mean you can coach an inter county team, far from it. The likes of Kissane at least had a background in coaching/sports science so he is in a different position

If true i'd be highly concerned about this appointment and very fearful it won't work

Billy Sheehan it looks like Tomas O Se will be right again the Cork senior football setup must be having a laugh again ...this is looking worse than the "Cuthbert" years ...one other thing the CCB and the clubs doing away with the relegation for the club championship ....I think is so so wrong relegation promotion that's always a fair system ....what are we going to have now and extra senior club every season...ending up where half them are not senior standard ...look at Kerry this year less teams at senior level ...Conor Counihan this is a joke .

Michael Moynihan saying now it Will be Eoin O Neill of Aghada ....looks like another who has no experience ...

Sad news from the Inniscarra club tonight.

Peter Downey who would be well known by many around the county as he refereed games in both codes at all levels has passed away following a work place accident earlier in the week.
A huge loss to family, friends and the GAA

    RIP

Looking at AG last night its tough they were drawn in a such a competitive Harty Group, but they certainly look a team for next year or year after depending on age profiles

They played Evan Sheehan in midfield and he will surely make minors this year - such a classy hurler, great lad to run at defences, and scored some lovely points. He certainly stood out on the night. Craig Hanifan performed very well too, caught great ball, clinical from frees and there was a tricky enough BALTIC wind to contend with. The Mon were seriously up for this game and although CBC started well enough and led initially they were pegged back and it was nip and tuck up to HT where Mon were a point up.
From the restart the AG rampaged again, huge work rate and effort, crunching tackles and once Gunning ? Finished the goal after a great catch by FF there was no way back for Christians. Those conditions tend not to suit Gunning but he was threatening last night and got better of Christian defence.

Rob O Flynn was Christians best performer on the night but really overall it wasnt a great performance from them and given the loss of Keohane, straight red ( after 3 good points) they may struggle against Castletroy next week. Disappointing result for them they were confident of a win.
    FT Mon 1 16 Christians 10 pts

Rochestown down to play Midleton next presumably Friday which should be a cracking game also - hopefully it will be nighttime game again - although hard to hurl under lights. Reasonable crowd last night given cold

Some key Harty games in prospect this week again to look forward to

In a footballing context good luck to Nemo and Carrigaline in quest for munster club this weekend

The U21 has always been straight knock-out, certainly in the City Division anyway. You only got one chance, no backdoor.

Muskerry U21 hurling adopted a back door a few years ago, the football was run off by having group stages to determine grading and then the championship.

Huge win for Clonmel. There definitely seems to be a lot of progress going on in Tipp football

How come the resident expert here is so quiet tonight.
Sure didn't he say Nemo would win handy?
It won't shut him up though, and as usual he'll find a way to wriggle out of it.

I too thought Nemo would win, by about 5 points actually, others too had the same opinion.

Out of curiosity, what did you say the outcome would be?

Some win for clonmel to be fair. Think nemo took them for granted and approached the game with typically misplaced arrogance. There's a great tradition of football in south tipp,

Didn't see the match myself, maybe you could enlighten me on how Nemo showed how they took them for granted with typical misplaced arrogance.

I don't think nemo took commercials for granted! First of all this nemo are a good side but not a great side as many people seem to think! And secondly the standard of club football in Tipperary is at an all time high as those players that were involved in the successful underage intercounty teams are now coming of age for their clubs. So I think over the next few years Tipperary clubs will be a lot more competitive with the cork and Kerry's club teams

I too don't believe Nemo took them for granted. Nemo's record in the Munster club championship and all Ireland series is seriously impressive, you don't get that by taking teams for granted!!

Clonmel worked hard nemo only just about there and ball broke for quinlivan and he took his chance

    Hard to begrudge clonmel

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 417 ✭✭CORKDOUBLE

That Clonmel team has 7 members of the Tipp minor team that won the Minor All-Ireland in 2011 ...all those players are now 22...so to they are a good side...on another note good news for Cork hurling Frank Flannery managed Oulert to the Leinster title today .

I think Nemo have a little of that smugness and arrogance that comes from huge success - Cork used that have it once as well

I watched the deferred coverage today and in fairness to Clonmel they were nip and tuck all the way - Kerrigans point to bring Nemo back to within 1 at 7 6 was a turning point for me - he clearly overcarried it - and i thought Clonmel heads dropped a bit as Nemo picked off next 3 points, expecting the inevitable. Lucky for Clonmel Quinlivan was in right place at right time and the finish was fantastic.

Those conditionsa re always a leveller, different day could have been a different result.

I dont begrudge Clonmel, they have flown the football flag in Tipperary for a long time and its great when a club or a county makes a breakthrough it can only be good for the sport - the scenes at the end show what it meant to them

I am fully confident Nemo will be knocking on the door again next year and year fter and year after again.

As I said I didn't see it and if conditions werent great it would certainly have helped even it a bit.

I wouldn't begrudge them a win, its always good to see new teams coming through.

Great post N20. Pretty much agree with everything you said there.
Not much of a football expert but the way Clonmel were being totally written off by some here before today's game showed no respect for the obvious improvements that have been happening in Tipp football for some time now.
Thought that was a super goal by Quinlivan by the way. Have looked at it several times and to finish from that distance with that accuracy was some strike.
