CBC win the Munster U16/5 b hurling championship.
Tommy O'Connell from Midleton the main man.
    Mickey's son?

Congrats to CBC, thats a boost for them

Bit of a step up in standard to A grade but I suppose it is all building towards Harty next few years

I see ASR came unstuck by St Kierans in A grade - beaten by 7 points

Be interesting to see if Kierans go all the way and the scorelines - Not sure if they are at final or semi final stage now in AI

I suppose its nearly inevitable they will win it

Horgan was probably the only player who could be happy enough with his performance from the West Cork team's point of view. Seemed their only outlet for winning ball from the puckouts, won a load of frees and got the two goals at the end. They were almost entirely dependent on him though as Meade was marked very well and conditions didn't play into his style of hurling. I would agree he needs to bulk up alright, as long as it doesn't affect his speed and reflexes which are second to none. It was clear Newcestown were hurt bad from the suspension and injuries. Always fighting an uphill battle.

From a Wolfe Tones point of view their full forward Aron Shanagher is a frightening talent. Was minor for Clare last year. Big, strong, very skillful and has a fair bit of pace for a man of his size. Very solid free taker too. Whatever about Aaron Cunningham being on the Clare Senior panel I'd nearly have this lad starting in a year or so. Phenomenal.

Twomey was a huge loss for them

What a club though, great ethos

Do you think cbc can win v Castletroy

Well firstly i wouldnt agree with you that everything went according to script for Cork Schools - whereas Midleton were eXpected to beat Hammies, I was very surprised Rochestown weren't a lot closer to Templemore and this presumably is a wake up call for them - their first 2 games were obviously no preparation for the Templemore challenge- down to themselves And Charleville now unless there are huge upsets in group.

Likewise i was surprised Colmans won by that margin against Nenagh - obviously the depleted Nenagh team came unstuck second half, but a win is a win and its puts Colmans in a very strong position facing last round game but there could be a last kick in Doon yet

Again i would have thought Christians wouldnt have struggled to the extent they did against Flannans given the margin Clonmel beat Flannans by (10 points) and the margin CBC beat Clonmel but I accept the heavy conditions would have been a leveller in a lot of last Wednesdays matches - but thats Harty Hurling

I give Christians every chance against Castletroy - thus will be the sternest challenge for both teams so far- Christians as you say have Robbie O Flynn a great man to take a score, and Billy Hennessy a very hardworking and efficient hurler - id be concerned CBC have weaknesses in their team, their youth may come against them - their previous goalie from Sars changed schools this year - and his replacement I heard is very young along with a few - very talented - 16 yrs old hurlers. Blake from Whitechurch is a very handy hurler ive seen him in action before - qualification in their first campaign is a great result.

By contrast Castletroy have been knocking on door of Harty last few years and will be very anxious to top group - they have a good number of last years team, limerick minors finn hourigan and colum carroll will be influential , brian nash is a brother of barry, so should be well able but there is a young Nicholas lad who is highly rated - managed by o reilly and fitzgerald there is plenty of experience on sideline too

Thing about hurling is the script can often go out the window - its all on the day - on paper Castletroy have the edge but on the day CBC have every chance

Lads, I've heard rumours of two amalgamations that are to happen, one in East Cork, one in West Cork. Anyone know if it's true or not? Don't want to mention the clubs in case it isn't true.

    Is this at adult level?

Could well believe it, a few clubs out there are really struggling numbers wise.

Adult level yes. The clubs involved are already joined together underage.

Yeah it was an all ireland semi final and the final is on in early December
Fair play to them i thought I ard scoil would have a real chance but it looks like kk dominance this grade is set to continue

    Thanks for that.
Horgan hopefully will make the cork intermediate and under twenty one team next year and hopefully he'll push for a Fitzgibbon cup place with ul also
Shanagher was excellent for clare v waterford two years ago approx but griffin marked him well in the harty cup before and done a great job on him for Rochestown
Imo Cunningham will be fine at senior but honan probably will come under pressure now in the next few years as a target full forward.

Would it be Cloyne/Russell Rovers as they've had success as underage as St.Colmans?

Would be very surprised if they did.

Kiltha Og is the other amalgamation i can think of in East Cork but couldn't see Castlemartyr and dungourney wanting to join given that they've both had recent success

Yes underage amalgamation but hard to see a club that is in premier intermediate grade merging??? Got to the 1/4 final this year. But if Russell Rovers are struggling for adult teams - maybe...

Tadhg Macs and Clann na Gael. Not going through though. Didn't get enough support from both clubs.

Coached minor aghada with counihan premier minor two grade title last year or so and as a player a fine club forward and he won seven all ireland club title years and years ago if he's the fella I'm thinking off.
But coaching he would be i think lacking senior experience and success and while he could be good you would like him to have some senior success as deegan Dublin had it and o Neill Kildare and mayo have a brilliant set up with Rochford and buckley and mcentee it seems if it's appointed.
However i would not be harsh on healy in he did to be fair want mccarthy who coaching helping facthnas today as ist choice but he wasn't unfortunately able to join.
There e's still a selector to be filled and probably won't be know til after nemo munster final.
Hard to know who that will be but rumour has it could be nemo man and shay fahy apparently was linked but others seem likely now.
Lot names going around so time will tell.

I'm not sure if he's pearse brother as I think pearse brother was tom who played cork in mcgrath cup years ag.
I would think he would be related to him in some way but he may not be.
    I'm not sure.
He was thought of good with the minor but senior inter county is huge step u.
Maybe kissane will be involved in more of the drills as time goes on.

First cousin of Pierce I think

As far as I know he was involved with the side doing the stats during Counihan's time in charge

    Interview with James Masters here

Interesting quote here where he thinks too much emphasis on fitness nowadays and I agree with him but a part of me thinks he might just be lazy!!
“I didn’t have the greatest work ethic and I suppose the time when the GPS came into the training tops, I began to suffer!” he smiled.
“I’ll be honest, I actually remember one training session and they actually said to me, ‘You only run fast when you’re getting the ball’. The likes of Daniel (Goulding) and Colm (O’Neill) were making the continual three or four runs at 90pc and I was making two runs at 40pc.
“But, look, everyone is different. My best attributes are that when I get the ball into my hand at close range I can shoot straight off the bat, no bouncing.”
