Let the churches host cinema screenings themselves then, instead of popcorn they can have communion wafers.............maybe even do a Noah's Ark special; 2 of everything* for €9.99 :pac:

    *small portions only

I go to the cinema to see explosions and people get murdered, not to have an auld pray.

Where would this stop if the church had their way ?

If they won a case against cinemas they could ultimately take dvd producers to court for not "advertising" their propeganda, or radio stations, or tv or...........many possibilities.

I would personally refuse to view a film at any cinema i knew was advertising religious prayers before, during or after a film.

I am not religious however, if i ever wanted GOD i would go to church, if i want film ill go to cinema.

Its religious institutions thinking they have a moral highground to flaunt their brand of rubbish (My Personal Opinion) in everyones face.

This is the basis of an entire civilisation for half the globe. I'd imagine Coca-Cola would be similarly incredulous if a cinema declined their ads for a similar reason? :D

Not if they had taken a universal decision to stop advertising sugary drinks.

Sports are now going to be banned from advertising alcohol. That is similar to this, although this is a self imposed ban.

There is a major difference between a belief system which has been the reason for many wars, discrimination and other such things VS a brand of a drink.

You dont see crusades because of Coca-Cola or Jihads because of cornflakes. :P

You try working as a barman and handing someone a vokda and pepsi instead of coke at 1 in the morning. ;)

I don't disagree. Nevertheless, everyone with something to peddle is going to think they have every right to peddle it.

media outlets can choose what to broadcast. Freedom of speech doesn't mandate equal time.

I really don't understand why this is getting so much attention. They said no religious or political ads. Maybe the church should have checked the ad policy before dumping money on making it? I actually hate all product ads in the cinema on principle, should just be ads for upcoming movies!!!

The Church PR is actually really good to be honest. Not out of the realm of possibility they expected this!

Indeed. Oh they won't show our ad, which contravenes an express policy of theirs, now we can go to the BBC for a good whinge!

Fair play to the cinema, no one wants religious or political propaganda shoved down their throat when they go out for an enjoyable evening. A cinema is a place of entertainment, people are there to be entertained and this is not place for such.

If we could just get them to adipt the same stance agsint ads for mobile phones, beer and **** knows what else being rammed down my traoth I;d even go back a bit more.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

    I hate cinema commercials.

    Love trailers though.

It's a tricky one, what if it was a commercial for The Church of Scientology? Probably wouldn't be as much support allowing that ad. Or some pro abortion message, etc.

    And like the other comments,

    The cake is a lie.

Yup. Then they can cry out about religious freedom, get more publicity for their ad and probably get the ad more attention than if it had played before Star Wars.

Pretty much a win-win for them. They probably would have preferred it playing before Star Wars, but they had to have known they could make it into a news story if it was refused.

The expression and phrase always a right time and right place for certain things, I don,t believe cinemas are neither the right time or place for prayer adverts, or any sort of religious adverts in general.

Just a thought imagine if Amnesty International Ireland payed cinemas to screen their recent video advert with Liam Neesons voiceover calling for repeal of the 8th, I can only imagine what certain groups and certain newspaper columnists would say about it.

I really wish they would show the advert, just so we could have two atheists outside the cinema with signs saying "Down with this sort of thing" and "Careful Now"

I dunno, and maybe it's just me, but it seems somewhat disrespectful to the religion as well to be using a prayer as an advertisement.

I also disagree with putting an ad for a church/religion on in a cinema or on TV either. It's just weird.

The ad isn't really banned. It's is one group of cinemas. There's nothing stopping the ad being put on TV, the Internet or another cinema.

    Religious people?

People go to the football to be entertained and you see religious symbolism all the time from players and so on. That argument doesn't really match.

Why don't people just say they want religion banned from the public sphere and be done with it. Cultural Marxism is already taking effect.

Honestly if you're offended by an ad with a prayer in it I've got news for you, there might be a chance you're an arsehole...

    Our Father
    Who art in heaven
    Hallowed be thy name
    Thy Kingdom come
Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread
and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us
and lead us not into temptation
    but deliver us from evil
    Amen.

Oh I just really offended someone, maybe they are evil?

Storm in a teacup, this. I'd just ignore it - they are only preaching to the converted.
