    In April 2002, the Journal of Genetic Counseling released a report which estimated the average risk of birth defects in a child born of first cousins at 1.1–2.0% over an average base risk for non-cousin couples of 3%, or about the same as that of any woman over age 40.

    It seems to be a societal taboo, that - while it makes sense for siblings - should probably be downplayed by quite a large margin.

    Incest is considered as being between siblings; parent/child; aunt/nephew; uncle/niece.

    Cousins is not incest.

    Generation upon generation of cousins breeding can cause damage, but the odd cousin match doesn't do any long term damage to a gene pool. Go for it if you want, I say.

    Ah no :D Wicklow is mostly amazing! It's just that place - well it's a long time since I was there (the 90s) but it really was Deliverance-esque. It's in the mountains isn't it?

    Do ye think the suicide bomber in Paris and the ringleader of the attacks were involved in incest?

    The female suicide bomber was the cousin of the ringleader. Footage was released of the altercation between police and her. They asked her where was her boyfriend? She answered he isn't my boyfriend and then the explosion took place.

    Could that question have been strategical by the police? She was a model at the end of the day...and it could be a method of undermining her as a proper muslim.

    I had an aquaintence who was riding her first cousin for about two years. I'd meet her out and she'd be asking me did I think it was strange. Of course I told her no not at all, but deep down I was thinking of all the people you could be meeting you had to pick your own cousin ya big weirdo.

    Wife's cousin married her first cousin about 35 years ago. Caused family rift - now thankfully forgotten. Two sons and two grandkids. All perfectly normal.

    Incest themed porn has always been huge.

    The Taboo movies with Kay Parker from the 70's was one of the most rented adult videos from the video shop where I lived. Even more so than Deep Throat and Debies Does Dolphins Barn Dallas.
