Sure does, Yaris really is a nice we car, but there sooo slow..

Just bitting my lip now until December when I have to only pay 199 for tax. :p

Haha, it's a good car for what it is.

I miss making my one scream.

When I felt stupid I would disconnect the cold-air hose to the airbox for awesome deep intake sounds on wide open throttle:

    I'd pay €56.

Oh you pay every 3 months? I just like to pay 199 and not have to pay until the following year.

I was always the same, just pay up and forget about it instead of having to swap discs every 3 months :pac:

You got flashed twice on the same day?

Yep, within half an hour. I had just got the 335 and was enjoying it a bit too much :D

I also wasn't aware that speed vans monitor the opposite side of the road (i.e. cars going away from it) aswell as its own side of the road.

Taxing by the quarter is an outrageous gouge, though.

Yeah I pay my 1080 up front too. Can't stand having to pay a cent more than I have to. Just put 100 a month into a car fund and dip into it come tax time. Which is Jan now...

I insure for the year but tax for three months. If tax was transferable between cars like insurance is (give or take a few euros) I'd tax for the year.

If only we had a system where you tax the driver, not the car. Oh well we can dream.

Personally I prefer to tax it once for the year and have it over and done with. :)

<Wally voice>Umm, scrapping motor tax as we know it and sogging it onto fuel at the forecourt would do that nicely!</Wally voice> :D

Presumably QV drives at least a couple of different cars throughout the year, and doesn't fancy having a shedload of brass tied up in any particular one for the whole year.

It's actually hard for me to believe that once I've paid €270 my tax is done for the year. I didn't even have that low a fee with my first car!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,925 ✭✭✭GvidoR

The that's crazy alright since a 1.1 is €299 if paid all at once.

The thing I'm happy about when I buy the Passat is I'm paying tax on the fuel instead so it gives me a nice feeling knowing i can buy a 2.0 and not pay a cent in extra tax to the government.

You pay less than even an EV driver would for a year, with a subscription to use the ESB points around the country. I think it's 120 tax for an EV, and then, 17 a month just to be able to use a charging station, never mind the cost to charge up after that. Now that is madness.

I'd love to see motor tax being included in the price of fuel, but it wouldn't be regulated properly at all in this country.

    March 2007:
    Petrol per litre: 103.9
    Oil per barrel: 56.59

    Nov 2015:
    Petrol per litre: 126.9
    Oil per barrel: 41.60

Why is it still high considering oil has been so low for ages now? Go through any historical data and it just doesn't match up.

I accept that, but these kinds of discrepancies have been there for years now. I'm waiting for the Euro to crash, and oil prices to rise. Then we're all fcuked.

I was of the impression that the price of oil is a relatively small component of the cost of getting fuel to the forecourt and as such it's fluctuating price isn't as large factor in determining the forecourt price as you would think.

It's no secret that the whole industry is a big cartel. I don't know if anyone actually knows the price breakdown at this stage. When oil was 2.5 times a barrel what it is now, it was 1.60 a litre. About 35c more expensive.

If the price of oil shot up to $200 a barrel tonight, you'd see the price at the pump shoot up even though the supplier already has a stockpile he only paid $40 for. Zero regulation of an industry that everyone in the country relies on.

Ignore 166man, his cars never knew what a tax disk looked liked.
The only time he taxed them they broke on him :pac:

And while I don't actually drive different cars Throughout the year I like to have the option.

Oh and it's a 19 year old alfa with 170k miles on it. I ain't taking that chance
