wondering what sort of a wash a 20 minute wash is compared to the guts of an hour?

Wash in NZ on a 30,000 litre tank used to take max ten mins! Never had any problems with milk quality.

50 weanling heifers on an out farm...no yard or standoff. Enough grass for another 4 weeks, but finding it horribly difficult at the moment with the weather. Grass only....never feed till housed. Thinking of reducing the load. Heifers ranging from 240 to 285.
Which would guys bring home, the light ones or the heavy ones?

Would moving them every day settle them? Fresh block of grass every day

If you need to house id put in bigger ones and throw a kg or two to the smaller ones. I wouldn't consider housing small weanlings.

Certainly helps but on rented ground, and we really don't want to appear too severe with it. A great tactic to get over bursts of bad weather, but this has gone on to on long and no signs of improving. I feel if we could pull through with a reduced number, we'd get better value at the far end if weather improved again.

I would go the exact opposite, go set stocking from here on out and never move them, best way to settle them

Best chance to actually have it grazed properly in these conditions

Another bull calf landed there. 2 left to calve now. One slight issue with having tightened up the autumn calvers for us here was with them nearly all calved now and having no spring cows dried off yet is space for all the milkers when inside, as normally a few spring cows would be dried as autumn girls calve in Nov and dec.

plus one on that, gave up strip grazing youngstock here as it usually ment in wet weather lots of bawling and messed up paddocks, give 7-10 day blocks now and 2kg of meal at grass and it works a treat

The last batch of bvd samples I sent off I got the results back by text but I haven't received a text for the samples that I sent off about a week before them. How do you go about checking them out.

Try to generate movement cert will tell you if no results posted on icbf. Very unusual for samples not to be on website if tested though

My dad was clipping a cows tail in the parlour this morning, when she gave a hoor of a kick, and got him right on the hand, deep 4inch cut across his hand, thankfully didn't hit a vein or ligament etc. Needed 7 stitches in it, he'll be grand once he keeps it clean etc, but not something that someone in their mid 70s needs!

Have just spent the last 48 hrs on the flat of my back with pretty severe lower back pain, can't walk or even crawl at this stage. First time in my life an ailment has stopped me from getting out to the yard. Have taken Valium, difene and solpadel, all high strengths drugs from the doc, but not much relief yet.
luckily have good lads with me who can help out and it's prob the best time to be laid low as cows are just housed, and on OAD.
But a timely reminder to any farmer pushing the numbers game on a one man system, we're not invincible.

Go find a good acupuncturist. From years of rugby it's the only quick fix. Sort you out quick if it's a muscle spasm. If it's a disc problem thats another matter..

Plus one on the acupuncturist. I really don't know what the fascination with one man "systems" is. There's really no such thing. I struggle to think of any other business that even considers it an option. Definitely going to be adding cows shortly more or less to pay another wage.
