It was properly quick when revved out and made a lovely noise.
Kinda spoils it when you learn that the lovely noise is coming from a speaker rather than the engine.

Just incase your not aware .. The mark 8 Golf is due to be released late next year this seems to be very early as the mark 7 was only released in late 2013 The reason is to reduce the cost of the MQB chassis that the mark 7 is built on According to Autocar many motoring analysts (and rival car makers) believe the mark 7 has been over-engineered for the price points of the vehicles it underpins .. The mark 5 Golf was also discontinued early in its production cycle for the mark 6 Golf because VW was losing too much time on the production line with the way the doors of the mark 5 were assembled .. As you can see from the picture it looks like a facelifted mark 7 . I wonder is that the reason why so much extra kit is being added with more to follow after the Jan/Feb sales rush is over .

Thinking of a GTD in the new year. Prob only afford the basic spec. Anything essential to add? The technology pack appears to be free at the moment.

The technology pack is no longer free, it's €161 now....still a no brainer imo.
3 years servicing is also €161.

    I love a good Autocar render. :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,548 ✭✭✭JoeA3

Any pics or speculation you see in the likes of AutoCar / AutoExpress is just that - complete tosh and someone's half-arsed idea of what they think it might look like...

I've yet to see one of those autocar renders look anything like the real car when it comes out.
I read elsewhere that the golf was being face lifted alright next summer for 2017 model year and that mark 8 was then another couple of years.
I don't think that this should influence anybody wanting to buy for this January anyway.
The gtd/gti/r are all very well equipped now. All you might add are leather or sunroof but only if you want them as they won't increase resale much.
Dsg if you prefer too. I don't think you can go wrong really if buying one of these cars.

    I don't think i can wait for the MK8!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,832 ✭✭✭Neilw

Even if the mk8 was to be released in 2017, the performance models usually take longer to be released.
With the emissions issue VW have to fix they may even cut back on development of performance stuff for a while.

The PCP quote the dealer gave me is very different to the website. Not sure what's going on. Has the cash price on the quotation around 8k less than the list price. Has it done for a number of different models I priced.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 701 ✭✭✭carsfan

I presume you are getting the 1.9 per cent rate?
Is the 8k what you are putting in up front? i.e. your deposit and whatever discount he is giving you too.

No, on the quote I got printed out the "cash price" of the new car is 34000. I can't see where this is coming from. The deposit is separate.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 701 ✭✭✭carsfan

So the list price of the car you specced is 42k and they are quoting 34k as the price?
    Doesn't make sense alright.

Fire sale .. vw share value dropped 3 billion euro in one day(yesterday) and 24 billion since September ..

If it's swinging that much in your favour then what are you waiting for?!? :D

Oh and can you tell us what dealer this is? I know someone wanting a gti and this sounds a bit too good not to follow up on.

Was a mistake alright. Still got a very nice deal on a 5dr with alcantara seats, technology pack and 3 years servicing.

Now if I could find a time machine to bring me 12 weeks into the future!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,392 ✭✭✭vintagevrs

Well done on choosing those seats. I would tick that box too before other things.

What color did ye go for?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,401 ✭✭✭Nonoperational

Pure white. Think it looks nice with the black accents. But I agonised a lot about it.

Good choice. For me it's either that or the carbon grey.

Nice, Keanes had a red one the day I was out. Fine looking car.
The tech pack is a must have imo and the alcantara seats really do add a nice quality feel to the interior.

I hear you on the wait. Have you a build week for it?

I paid a deposit in early October, I have a scheduled build of week 49 but still not confirmed yet.

    Congrats on the orders guys.
The offers VW have going for 161 make the cars even sweeter.
I see the tech pack now includes keyless too. This is a great extra. I have it on my car and it makes it feel much more premium.
There seems to be a fair few boards users now in gti/gtd/r models.

Keyless is only on 5 door cars unfortunately for me, it wasn't something I would have picked as an option anyway.

I'm with you there Neil, far too many negatives with regards to theft and keyless entry systems these days to be comfortable having it on one of my cars. The idea and application are great but the added potential, no thanks.

I'd be lucky to have it in Feb I'd say.

Is the Adaptive Chassis Control no longer an option on the R? It's not on the list of options on the configurator on VW.ie. Also, it won't allow me to add DiscoveryPro as an option either - it's there, but it won't add :(

Forget the configurator. It is and always has been hopelessly out of date and inaccurate.

Better off going into the dealers. The price between the website and product guide is different.
I've just put an order in for a new car and they can't confirm if the R-Line kit is available for my car (didn't go for GTi nor R). Also the dealer is unsure about certain configurations with product lines, on the product configurator this kit can be added but you'll only get 17 inch alloys when on the product guide in the dealership 18 inch should be included. So I'm trying to get this resolved so that I can make build week 51 and all going well have the new car in January.

But seems to be great offers on at the moment with VW,
