It would be silly not to buy one! :pac:

Gave the car a rub with a damp tea towel earlier, and then the ran came out:(

Great looking car. But I do hope that the wet tea towel is code for a 2bm with wool mitt etc.

So rang the dealer in Cork today to make sure they contact me ASAP once a GTI comes into them. Hoping that come the start of the new year a few trade ins will be knocking around. Fingers crossed that a decent one becomes available.

There's several on carzone already. Why limit yourself to one dealer? My local fella has 2 - one of them my old one and another 141.

Have dealt with them for years, bought all my cars from them and the service has been very good, can't fault them, plus they are the biggest VW dealer in Cork City and County so they would have a bigger stock to pick from.

I know your old car has a huge collection of options but feel the price is too high for me.

Wouldn't pay too much heed to the asking price. It's a starting point.

But how do you know you are actually getting a good deal if you don't shop around. Hypothetically they could pull any price out of the air in the knowledge that you are loyal and chances are you will continue to buy from them. You need alternative prices as a point of comparison.

They have a stock so big that they can't find any GTI's! :pac::D;)

I'm sure the right car will come, could they not source a GTI from a partner dealership?

To be honest I did similar. I've bought a string of cars from the same dealer. But I always go in with my homework well done and I know I'm getting the right deal. If you are clued in and know what to realistically expect for your trade in, etc, there is great comfort / convenience in dealing with the same crowd. They know me coming, they know my car, there's no messing about.

If its who I think it is I have tried them every single time I changed cars and they have never been competitive. They came close once but Newmarket blew them out of the water.

annoying is no blue light on dash to show whether you are on full or not, seems obvious i know but you will find yourself checking them.

You can set this so you have the blue full beam light in auto mode. Knock the headlight stock forward a few times. I just changed mine by accident so now have what you describe.

Iv no idea how I did this. I tried to undo it and couldn't!

I find them to be very competitive. Did you buy new or second hand? I guess with dealers and pricing is all down to timing, if they need a sale to bring up the months total then you can get a good offer I guess.

My car is bought and serviced from the one garage so I find it easy to keep dealing with them. But I do my research before going in buying any car. Hence why I was asking questions to people who own GTIs to see what I should keep an eye out for.

Not a whole pile of them for sale around the country, anyway if I could have struck a deal with them I would have bought there and then but I'm going to keep my car till January get the year out of it and with the R proving good value possibly a couple of GTI owners could be trading in for one of them.

Blackwater motors ring me a couple of times a year asking me do I want to trade in my mk6 GTI, so they do actively look for cars off customers.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,538 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

Mk6 GTis are very thin on the ground so I'm sure they have a list of customers who would buy it as soon as it came in.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,025 ✭✭✭✭everlast75

I would consider changing mine after a year or so and going for an R, but unless I got finance on the 2nd hand which was as competitive as the deal on the new cars (which I won't) it ain't gonna happen...

    Yeah
I noticed while looking at VW website that 1.9 per cent pcp rate is now 2.9 per cent. Don't know what they give for a second hand car.

I got a rate of 4.9% from Volkswagen Bank for a second hand car

Whilst I'm loving my MK6 GTI at the minute, if someone could buy a DSG Golf R in three door, Candy White and with the Pretoria wheels so I can buy it from you in a couple of years, that would be great.

Check out The new gti clubsport.
Opinions? a bit boy racer for me I think.

I'm not fussed on some of the exterior styling, however, the inside has some nice touches by the look of it. Wheel and seats esp. The motor didn't just get an extra 10bhp or something insignificant either. It's up now to 290, which is a real lift. Often these editions are just styling tweaks, this has the go to go with the show.

How it is priced will be intriguing, assuming VW Ireland bring it in here - they didn't bother with any of the last Anni GTI's.
There's just 4.5k between a GTI PP and an R. So where does this one fit?!
Agreed the interior touches look fantastic but I'm not too sold on the exterior tweaks. Those wheels look like Halfords specials and are bloody diamond cut again. Something along the lines of the R's Pretoria's would look much better IMO.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 701 ✭✭✭carsfan

I like the interior too but the exterior is too much for me.A bit Halfords looking.
Price wise I would guess mid way between R and gti PP? That's if VW Ireland bother as I imagine the market would be tiny.

The motor probably should have been up around 250 in the stock GTi7 IMO, at least then it wouldn't have been under powered compared to the OPC/Focus ST/Megane 265 etc (under powered on paper I mean, I haven't driven the mk7 GTi). 220 Seems low these days when all the competitors are going a lot higher. But I guess they want to keep a gap to the R or no one would buy the GTi.

The clubsport wheels really dont do it for me!

Interesting thread btw, Ive read the whole thing start to finish over the last few days. Some beautiful GTi's and R's on here!

Thought I would take it handy today and see how economical this R can be if it wants to be. This was almost perfect conditions, N roads with a few by passes and round abouts with cruise set to 80kph. Not too shabby but mighty dull journey....

Spoke to an acquaintance of mine at the Canon-Ball this morning, who is a big car nut. Has a M3, Caterham7, R32, and a 458...

Apparently he has specked a "Commercial Golf R", (rear windows blocked out), to replace the r32, to be delivered in January16...

Says it totally unique, and only a factory order... Sounds pokey to me ???

As far as I know, Golf vans actually come into the country as regular 3 door Golfs and the conversion-to-van happens here, possibly done by NVD in Dublin or the likes. Maybe VW are doing that for him?

Sounds weird, doubt VW do that. You sure it's not a Golf R line?

    Aaargh!
Scraped an alloy yesterday on the gti. Disgusted with myself but it's only an inch long and probably invisible to most people but not me.
I read somewhere that these alloys are prone to corrosion if damaged. Any of you with experience know?
Should I get this repaired or leave it. If the wheel was going to deteriorate I would repair it but otherwise I will leave it until I am selling unless I damage it further.
