Anyone any thoughts on Android tablets for kids? Been looking at a few and the best I've seen so far is this. A little pricey but seems to be good quality

    http://www.argos.ie/static/Product/partNumber/2621353.htm

This is showing as €169.99 now. Luckily I reserved it at €139.99 last night.

I can't quite get my head around the fact that not only is my phone's 4g connection faster than my ADSL line by some distance but it's faster than my WiFi LAN connection. It's actually quicker to download a file from Australia than from the PC in the next room.

Ive been waiting nearly a month for my 4G to begin. Got a new phone the day after my last bill and they won't turn it on until the next billing cycle begins (the 8th). Miserable gits

Just depends on how good your ISP is...

Pretty much, without going into too much detail! I'm my own provider.

    Work doesn't count.

UPC offer pretty good home speeds in Dublin.

I think UPC increased my DL but capped my UL recently.

Ah yeah, it's not AT work technically but it's not consumer broadband.

It's also almost entirely useless, apart from the latency. Virgin have been rolling out 200MB home broadband around here though recently as a free upgrade which is quite impressive.

Every provider will eventually need to cap UL because it's far too dangerous to have modern computers with massive capacities, it's becoming far too easy to assemble a botnet capable of doing considerable damage because consumer's PCs are poorly protected and capable of doing a lot of outbound traffic.

UPC seemed to have removed all the broadband options from their site except for the 240mb option now since they became virgin.

They've also removed the basic tv options, the 35 quid a month Horizon is their cheapest now.

Woah I didn't know that UPC became Virgin in Ireland. That'll be great if they invest in infrastructure the same way they're doing around me in the UK.

You obviously didn't watch the world cup on Tv3

Not sure I'll ever get fibre again but I've never found myself thinking 15Mbps is just too slow.
What can you do with gigabit internet?

There are a lot of us in the house. We could pretty comfortably have 2 people watching Netflix, one person torrennting at 20MBs and I'd still get a low ping and good connection on online games.

It is great to never have to worry about the Internet.

True, that will soon become an issue in my house.

In anticipation of the new Star Wars movie I'm planning on watching the 6 previous ones over the coming weeks.

    What do you guys reckon on the order 1 - 6 or 4 - 6 then 1 - 3.

Machete Order is a good way of watching them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,633 ✭✭✭✭errlloyd

Machete order is the best for introducing someone to them right? I do think it is better to watch them 1-6 if you actually know the story.

Apparently 4,5,1,2,3,6 is the best way to watch them. Personally I'd just watch 4 - 6 and not bother with the prequels.

EDIT: I see in the 40 or so minutes it took me to actually post this Teferi got there first.....I really need to learn to focus on one thing to completion before moving on to another.

I watched them last year with the kids and we did it 1-6. Thoroughly enjoyed it. The prequels get far more grief than they deserve

There is a fan edit available on dodgy sites that cuts the prequels into one film. It's pretty good. It completely removes episode 1 and a lot of the nonsense from the other two that makes them bearable. I'd go for that machete order with the fan edit in the middle.

Actually machete order skips 1. So if you can make a convincing argument why 1 should be watched.....

I was wondering how many posts before someone suggested ignoring the prequels all together. For the record it was one post later than I thought :)
