Seems like overkill. From the trailers this game looks like a moderately graphically modded Fallout 3 and its graphics potential is entirely designed around 8th gen consoles. Also in before 60fps causes things to ragdoll to space.

Its still the Creation engine which is a fair few years old, doubt anyone who can run Skyrim will have issues with the base game.

the modded to fcuk game now is a different story.

I still giggle at this.

Thats because you are basically. It's the same engine.

I am dying in anticipation and am counting the days. Just like F03, I'll play 4 to death. It may even beat witcher 3 for my goty. I'm sure it will be amazing.

But I'm no under no illusions. This engine is the same one we say in Oblivion.....it's over 10 years old. Renaming it doesnt change that fact. It's nearly as old as WoW at this stage. There is only so much modification they can do. The animations are slightly better but still really poor and graphically its miles behind most other recent games. Thats what it looks like on ps4 and xbone. The improved lighting makes the world a little less flat and It looks better at night and water is very pretty but it is what it is.

The vanilla PC version is prettier if you can crank it up and mods will end up improving the visual quality a lot over the next few months but it wont ever blow your mind visually.

I think most people are okay with that. Fallout is an experience and the eye candy isnt the draw for most.

That's not really true though. It's the same base engine but heavily modified. A lot of game series do this, actually. Call of Duty is probably the best example, having or has used until very recently, the same base engine for a very long time, but obviously every iteration since COD4 has looked better with every release due to new features and improvements.

I think it was just a bad picture, whatever the source. Fallout 4 isn't going to challenge Crysis but it's visually decent and a world apart from Fallout 3.

There's a massive amount of discovery which isn't included when the same engine is reused. The mechanics of every CoD game has been the same sinc CoD 4. I know I'll be able to pick up the new one and I'll be reasonably good at it. It's going to be the same thing with the new fallout and I'm disappointed by that already. I don't particularly care for the visuals. Fallout 3 was ugly as hell but the combat and perks look the same already.

Same thing with the new XCOM game. I know I'll be good at it almost straight away. It is unreasonable to expect an entirely new engine for each game but I'd still definitely prefer it. Fallout 4 won't be a new experience like fallout 3 was.

People are really going out of their way to convince themselves this game looks good, aren't they? Every trailer and screenshot I've seen... it's not a graphically intensive game. It honestly doesn't look any better than a mild ENB on Fallout 3. The biggest change is probably the faces which badly needed an update anyway.

I don't know what year people traveled in from their time machines to be able to say Fallout 4 looks good. Have you actually played any other games? There's games that are as old as Fallout 3 that look better than Fallout 4.

Doesn't help that there's dozens of reused animations, either.

But... it's still FALLOUT so it will have that nice exploration and goofy world. It'll probably be as good/bad as F3/NV. I hope ragdoll physics, gore and some weapon refinement will make it worth picking up later with a suite of mods and perhaps an ENB w/ texture packs. I sure hope the draw distance isn't as we've seen it in every trailer because it's smaller than Fallout 3 on PC. Even the console versions should beat that. Maybe it's another game where stuff like that needs to be changed in the configuration files.

Also going to need a mod to silence the player character from commenting on everything. I don't think there's any mod that can fix the inherently terrible dialogue system, though.

You play a game like 'Fallout' or 'The Elder Scrolls' for the game itself, not what it looks like.

I honestly wouldn't care whether it looks the same as 'Fallout: New Vegas' one single bit.

People can piss and moan about Bethesda all they want, but in my book they make some of the most entertaining games I have ever played.

Those photo's are not comparable to be honest. You're looking at a heavily modified version of Fallout 3 on the pc there, with better textures and a much higher draw distance. It's pretty much as good as the game can look, after years of modifying the game. And i'm guessing you're looking at the worst possible picture of Fallout 4 that someone could find.

I'm not saying Fallout 4 looks amazing, but it's going to a be a significant improvement over Fallout 3.

My gaming laptop screen came with G-Sync, I have yet to see it mentioned anywhere in connection with anything interestin so no great loss if you dont go with it imo.

Not even close. I don't even think that picture has any graphic mods or ENBs but I might be wrong. Meanwhile that F4 picture is straight from the promotional material since other than the recently leaked video that's all we've had access to. And we all know how games these days look good in the promotional material but come up short on the retail product.

Here's maybe what you're thinking of when it comes to F3 looking as good as it can.

This looks like an ENB with probably a HD texture pack and a skybox change of some kind.
