Yeah. Both Radio 1. Himself and Brendan O'Carroll were referenced on It Says In The Papers as well.
Has he any paid advertising anywhere? I rarely stray from R1 so I've not heard any.

No. No paid advertising. And why would he? He's getting tens of thousands of euro worth of advertorials for free.

That's what I was thinking. Was just wondering if he was getting promoted on Newstalk or TV3 and the like.

Was just flicking around the tv there and saw The Duffster on The best of Ireland AM from Monday talking about da buke. Kinda surprised he lowered himself to appear on tv3 but I suppose anything to sell a few books.

The Duffmeister appeared on The Pat Kenny Show as well last week. Joe obviously has no qualms about appearing on a Denis O'Brien-owned vehicle as long as he can flog a few more bukes. The Ballyer boy should show a bit of solidariteee with his fellow journalist Sam Smyth who was unceremoniously let go by Today FM, but why let ones etttics get in the way when there's an opportunity to get some more free advertising and self-aggrandising air time........?

I believe this one deals with the subject: Irishmen who enlisted in the army for WW1 and who were deployed against the rebels and of which 40+ died in the Rising. Not a story often heard of.. http://www.amazon.co.uk/books/dp/1848892144/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1445676250&sr=8-1&keywords=neil+richardson

the infamous Captain John Bowen-Colthurst on whose orders Francis Sheehy-Skeffington was executed. These men became a forgotten part of their country's history.

That Bowen fella surely deserves a plaque .....

This guy seems like a bit obsessed with the British army and their "forgotten Irish soldiers".

They were forgotten because the Rising commemorations were cancelled, they can be remembered all they like now for firing on the rebels .....

In fairness, he did explain why Hachette were publishing his book - he was having trouble finding a publisher in Ireland..

There's a heap of books now on the Rising and I'm sure plenty more in gestation and you'd imagine that whilst there's a certain market for them, the pool of purchasers can only stretch so far. One thing in favour of this book is that it does focus on the ordinary civilians as far as I can judge and far more of them died than combatants. Despite the rhetoric of some, I'm not sure that the leaders of said Rising were all that concerned about civilian deaths - they were resolutely focused on blood letting and self sacrifice.

Actually they chose Easter Monday as it was a bank holiday and less civilians would be on the street.

They surrendered citing the civilian deaths as one reason.

The British decided to machine gun civilian families in tenements not the rebels. (Maybe the crew of the gunboat Helga need to be remembered.)

Also, being against WW1, they were resolutely against mass blood letting for the monarchs of Europe.

What I find hiliarious is the accompanying song for the buke.

    "Da childre
    nnnnnn ov '16" (Dubalin accent).

That's what I was thinking. Was just wondering if he was getting promoted on Newstalk or TV3 and the like.

He was on The Last Word as well as Pat Kenny last week, both DO'B stations. Matt Cooper however didn't interview him, whoever the stand-in was did (I think it was Hugh Linehan). On that show Joe gave us a new saying (as he often does), this one was:

"we're all part of the same cake"

I genuinely suspect Cooper's abscence was intentional as I'd like to believe someone other than those of us who post on this thread see through the utter hypocrisy of the life Joe Duffy lives.

Someone posted earlier how the great one said he worked "everyday" on de buke; I could probably write a book too if I "worked" 5 hours a week, 30 weeks a year.

    No! No! No! No! No!

Please say you're joking? There isn't really a song is there?

Duffy will play this everyday for the next 14months at least - pretending he's doing it to pay homage to the fallen, when in reality it's anither cynical ploy to boost sales of de buke, so to speak.
