Dont forget the current exchange rate is pants so its not going to be as good value as it would have been a few years ago. A quick google suggests its €1-$1.11 which is not great

have some friends hitting the states this week, anyone know where is the best place to pick up a processor for them to bring back and what sort of prices can i expect? i5 or i7

Whats your plan. Is pc not pulling its weight?

It is still but I just want to pick up a new processor to see what it can do. I want to be proud of my pc again :)

    What can I expect from Fallout 4 with an i5 4690K and r9 280?

I am assuming over 30 FPS at 1080p as that is what the consoles are getting.

Just wondering if I will get near to 60 FPS?

Oooh got the fallout 4 hype going. Me too. Love the fallout games. 3 was one of my favourite games ever. Bad ass.

Honestly you won't know till you play and see how well they optimised the game and how soild it is on release.

Depends also if you want every bell and whistle on while your playing it. You will definitely be able to get 1080p 60fps but you would more than likely have to reduce some settings,as most of us will have to. Id be suprised if you couldnt manage console quality settings and not get close to 60 fps on a system like that. But then again open world games can be weird.

Which 960 did you get in the end? I'm itching for one, but Adverts second hand are dearer than most new.

Also depends on the mods. A HUD change won't do much but you'll notice big drops in frames if you get new textures, or if you add the likes of an army of chainsaw wielding anthropomorphic unicorn behemoths riding three headed Yao guais with weather changing powers roaming the land.

Any of you guys any good at soldering? Looking for someone to change leds in my orbweaver from green to most likely red, I could chance it myself but I've not done a lot and don't wanna wreck my pad! Or a pm to a good electronic place either! I'm in Letterkenny but will post it wherever to get it done
    Thanks

Yeah I held out for adverts for about 2 weeks waiting for something decent to pop up, but it seems to full of people selling BRAND NEW TESTED cards as the lads were saying before. I got the MSI Gaming 2gb , seems to be one of the most common ones and the coolers on it seem to be brilliant from the reviews I've read.

How's it going guys, a friend spent far too much money on an XPS a few years ago and the GTS 640 on it (yes, that pinnacle of gaming GPU :P) is giving out. Any recommendations as to a simple, cheap GPU to replace it? Any 6 pin one from 40-80 euro will do I suppose. I just don't know that end of the market too well.

GTX570 is about that, or a 750 is about €100

I want to keep the power draw very low. The cooling is terrible. I think 100 is a bit much for their uses. A 570 wouldn't suit I'd say.

I was thinking this might be OK?

6 pin is enough, as the PSU is god awful, I wouldn't put a high wattage GPU in the system.

Its always an encouraging sign when you have to hunt around in the tech specs just to find out what model card it is. Not :P

TBH a 750 will blow that R250 out of the water and probably consume way less power to boot. It wouldn't even cost that much more given the price of that thing is in sterling and is a lot higher than you'd think Euro-wise (gee thanks exchange rate!)

I'll look into that so! Honestly I don't even know if they want it for gaming, so it really just comes down to the budget :)

Not sure if its as good as a 250, 250X destroys it, even the base 750 is miles ahead. IIRC its based on older tech, it actually has a higher TDP than the 750Ti and often ships with a (unnecessary!) 6pin power connector :o

Grabbed a 750 in Pc World so he did :P Was 124 so was surprised at the reasonably OK price. Should be grand. And did I say it was a 640? I meant GTS 240 LMAO. 1500 euro PC, nice i7, 2x1tb drives in RAID, 4GB RAM. Dell XPS for you. The card was idling at 75 degrees FFS.

The 750 will have some real oomph in games and the Nehalem i7 will have the power to bring the GPU to its full potential too.

It's a straightforward enough mod, as there is plenty of room to work on the PCB so most people with basic soldering skills could do it if they took your time. There's a guide here on youtube.

However with 20 LED's it would be time consuming and I would also guess expensive if you had to pay someone else to do for you. Factor in shipping if necessary, and it might be a better idea to sell yours and put the cash towards the Chroma version with customisable lighting.

Any suggestions on a sub <100e Mechanical keyboard? Have my eyes set on the CM quickfire TK with white back lighting but can't seem to find it anywhere at a decent price.

Even so you would expect a much better card than that for that kind of money!
