Are ya jokin? When I was dragging my miserable ass around behind you for the first 5 miles all I could see was your arm shooting up to wave at someone else every couple of hundred metres :D

If I don't catch ya at the Expo I'll see you on Monday ;)

Happy to see we've covered everything here (ok, except for a gps tip *yawn*) but it is nice and succinct. Thanks John!

Managed an easy 4 miler today in the company of two colleagues, both running DCM too. They run ahead and I follow, not paying attention to the pace but let the legs do whatever feels easy - which turns out to be close to PMP anyway. Feels good and natural. I think I'm all set. All "phantom niggles" are staying at bay!

I won't run tomorrow and Saturday will be dedicated to kids' GA matches, Expo, and rugby. Last run will be an easy couple of miles in the local park on Sunday. It's probably not a good idea to throw in strides at that late stage, right?

I am still aiming to hit the Expo at some point between 11-11.30 on Saturday, if anyone wants to meet up for a coffee, let me know!

Hi Nop, strides the day before will be ok but best if you have been doing them regularly as part of your pre-race routine. Just do 3-4 and do them as strides, NOT sprints.

Glad to see you've dismissed the phantoms :)

    6 miles easy this evening

Usually before a race i would do a 2 mile warm up, would i be better off saving my energy for the race or should i do what i always do? what are other people doing pre race Monday?

Hi Jake, I usually tailor my warm up according to the distance and weather conditions. I do it inversely so the longer the race, the shorter the warm up. If it's warm, you'll need less warm up too. Don't forget, you'll benefit from using the first mile as warm up (can be 20 seconds off pace) and easing into MP after that.

Was there a post about what to be eating these days or did I dream it?
    Can't find it now.

3 different people asked about my diet in the run up to the marathon today.

Best of luck to you all on Monday. You only get one first marathon so do your best to be relaxed and enjoy it!
A little bit of advice on the route....
When we've left Castleknock and are about 200 Metres from the traffic lights at the re-entry to Phoenix Pk, theres a bloody lump of concrete in the middle of the road that sits up about 1-2 inches! I stubbed my toe on it last year and if it wasn't for the quick thinking of those around me I would have fallen badly. It was still enough to injure me though.

Wrapped up training for DCM today with a five mile.
No niggles and aches have almost cleared up.
I might jump on the turbo Saturday evening to clear the head after driving into town for the Expo but apart from that I'll be taking it easy.
I'd like to say a huge thank you to Dubgal for all her advice along the way and guiding me towards the start line.
At the start of the year I honestly didn't realise how much work it would take to get ready for Monday and if I didn't find this page I know I would be hurting a lot more during the race.
Best of luck to everyone else on here too, I hope you hit your targets.
I'll be in my Pulse top so say hi or pick me up off the ground if I'm in a heap :D

I'm just gonna eat normally, maybe drink a sports drink on Sunday and eat a double portion of pasta for dinner.

Yes - I've done them as part of the pre-race for Dunshaughlin and the FD10. Sunday morning it is.

Well, I'm done running until Monday but I've been dancing around my kitchen to my favourite kpop while cooking dinner. That's ok, right? :P

Normally I'm with Bob Geldof in that I don't like Mondays, but jeez, this Monday seems to be taking forever to come round.......it's like being a child waiting for christmas morning all over again....

The forecast for Monday is pretty grim isn't it?

That could change in a hours time.

The night before the marathon in 2013, they were forecasting a huge storm hitting and snowfall for the day, conditions turned out to be ideal even though the wind was howling only 2 hours before the start. I prefer the lookout the window approach on the morning and prepare accordingly.

I am loving these short runs, actually had to ask what a two mile route would be as that is my run for tomorrow night can't remember the last time I did 2 miles. 4 miles easy last night, 3 miles easy tonight in the company of FBOT for some marathon chat and strategy chat (think I am driving him insane with all my questions). A few "phantom niggles" I am being told thats what they are, they don't feel "phantom". Plenty of stretching and foam rolling this week. I really don't know what I am going to do with myself next week. Okay have to go technology ban from 10pm and bed by 10.30 pm. :D Thanks for the tip on clearing the watch DG would have forgotten that.

Yeah there's merit in that alright, but Met Eireann do get it right from time to time as well. I'd prefer to have my head in a space that's well prepared.....

I like running in the rain, not so much the wind though!

Billy Connolly- "I hate all those weathermen, too, who tell you that rain is bad weather. There's no such thing as bad weather, just the wrong clothing, so get yourself a sexy raincoat and live a little. "

Right folks, five minutes to wind-it-down for the night time :) Mrs Mc has it right: technology ban after 10, tucked up in bed by 10:30 ;)

    Sweet dreams Novices....

    1. Actual running!

I did 6.5 miles with 3 miles at MPish 8'00/mile yesterday, and 3 miles at 9'00 today. Just 2 miles left! Running feels really easy right now, taper is really working :)

    2. I see "Lazarus Kimutai" has taken my number 14

    3. I made some simple signs for McGrattan's, since not all of us have met :)

I'm in a panic of self doubt and insecurity. Is that normal?

Only running a year but I've prepared for practically the whole lot of it. Did the half in 1.58. Did lots (and lots) of 2hr+ runs. Didn't get further than 28k though so my head is my biggest worry.

Went out for my last easiest run tonight and for the first time ever felt my knee give way. I stopped and walked for a little bit, maybe 500m, then started off again and it was fine. That's just nerves, right?

    Have these questions been answered already;
Earphones/phone for music? Yes or no? I find it gets heavy after 20k but I'm used to running with my music but then I want to enjoy the atmosphere but then I'd like my family to be able to track me...

Is it best to get the DART in if possible? Or is it jammed?
Can family meet at the finish line or near abouts or is that simply impossible?
I'm in a full fledged fit of self doubt and worry and I can hardly sleep worrying about what I've let myself in for.

I was aiming to start at the back of the 4.30 wave and take it handy but I think I'll be disappointed if I don't come in under 4.30. Am I being too ambitious given that I've only started running this year???

Sorry for barging in, I hope someone can settle my nerves. I've been following the thread a while now but mostly just reading not posting.
