Started playing Darksiders again last night, and really enjoying it. Never played the 2nd, so will do a run through of that as well.

I've started with Dust: An Elysian Tail. I'm about three hours in and really enjoying it! Looks good and the combat is fairly straightforward, which is important for me, if it's ever too complicated it really impacts how much I enjoy a game as I'm never bothered to learn combos, etc...

It just mighn't be your cup of tea.

I absolutely loved it from the get go - the world and Geralt that is.

Hated Witcher 2 as a game, but I liked the idea of it so much that I kept trying to get back into it.

    Eventually I gave up.

I only went back to the series some time later with the first game and then with that and the combat rebalance mod I had the momentum to grind through the combat in the 2nd.

The third is of course a masterpiece.

At this stage I've played them all and read most of the books, but that's mostly down to the world and characters. Only W3 is much good in terms of mechanics.
If you're not drawn in by the aesthetics and general art of it from the get go I can't see how that's going to change.

Is the combat rebalance mod much better? What differences are there?

I have really gotten into the game now but the combat is fairly bland.

Over 10 hours sunk into Darkest Dungeon, this game is magnificent! :D

Got a few heroes to level 3 now, and a roster of 12 already, leveling them all up as I go. First time around I didn't know just how important marks and buffs were, as well as stress management. Instead of going in straight away with attacks that hit multiple enemies, taking the time to mark, buff and stun if possible makes all the difference. Taking out that stress-giving monster first. Today I've been really liking the Hellion, the Bounty Hunter, and got to play with an Occultist for the first time, his heal mechanics are kinda awesome cool.

And oh my god do I adore the style of the game, the entire game feels like something from a Mike Mignola comic, and it is gorgeous!

I have really gotten into the game now but the combat is fairly bland.

For starters, it gives you all the basic skills for free from the start.

    You parry automatically as well.

I'm not too sure on the details other than that - I think they certainly changed the feel of it a fair bit. It's still pretty slow paced, attritional and involves a lot of rolling around enemies.

The biggest thing in Witcher 3 combat was probably the addition of the sidestep - it allows you to be so much more aggressive against groups of enemies.

The lack of that in 2 leaves you struggling to get hits off on a lot of enemies so you're having to duck in, hit one once, leg it again, roll around like a dope for 5 minutes and wait for your next opening.

There's a sort of cheese runestone you can place in socketed weapons that gives you a chance to 1-shot monsters or humans - you still have to defend properly, but you tend not to take all day to kill everything.

I think Darkest Dungeon is the next FTL. :D

I was playing Darkest Dungeon a couple of months ago but gave it a break but after reading everyone enjoying it so much I must go back and give it another whirl. The art style of the game is so utterly compelling to me it really is one of the most aesthetically pleasing and engrossing games I have played in a while.

Must finish off Dyling Light and then dive back into DD.

If you like the art style, I would highly recommend grabbing a few Mike Mignola comic books, Hellboy, BPRD, Witchfinder, etc... He also did a Witcher comic book that I want to check out at some point.

It's €19.99 currently, was down to €11.99 at the weekend though. I'd happily grab it at full price tbh. ;)

I don't know, it would be a tough call between him and the Bastion narrator.

After 75hrs of DDungeon I'm at a place where it feels too similar to play more - not in a bad way (still got bosses to kill and goals to finish) but with my roster nearing all 5-6 and combat now being more methodical and mechanical than experimental, I can soon shelf it and wait for the full release (and the extra content that will come with it).

To fill the void, just bought Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin via Humble Bundle. I have never played a D-Souls game so I want to see if it lives up to expectations.

dark souls 2 is good and all but if you can wait until after getting and playing dark souls 1, you'll be better served

oh and level adp, you want agility around 105 so the iframes in your rolling are where they should be.

oh, would you look at this

Use your first build in Souls to figure out the mechanics, piss around with magic, hexes, stregth and miracles, decide how you want to run.

Then restart, you'll catch up to where you were in a fifth of the time.

I've beaten all the games and that's normally how I play unless I make my mind up very quickly.

Is a Hexer still easy mode?

Finished Mad Max last night. It's solid, IMO. Amazing graphics, somewhat repetitive gameplay, lots of collecting and stuff. The game picks up when it gets to Gastown. Despite being 10% or so of the map, there's 90% of the story there. Not that there's much story either, though I actually liked that as the lack of story and music made it an ideal game to listen to podcasts while playing. Worth getting in the Winter Sale, I think.

Trying to avoid longer games until Fallout 4. Started Transformers Devastation earlier today. I started on Scout, though that ended up being too easy (I'm usually crap at Platinum games though I loved Metal Gear Rising and Vanquish), so I bumped it up to Warrior and now it's challenging but fair. The early fight against Devastator is great, and the music is superb, almost Rules of Nature good.

Already been planning to pick this one up, but now I'm extra excited. :D

Oh I don't need telling - I tend to experiment / test the water then start over, much like I did DD. Unfortunately, I spent more time trying to sort functional keybinds than I did playing the game. Eventually gained enough to level up but in trying to do so, it completely disabled my keyboard (couldn't CTR/ALT/F4), so had to force a restart with the PC button. Not a good start.

In Dark Souls or DD?

    In Souls, use a controller

Pouring time into Vermintide, charged 2-hand hammer sending dozens of Skaven flying is always good fun.

Lots more Darkest Dungeon lately, and also tried to play some Red Solstice multiplayer again. My connection has been very flakey lately though, and that turned out to be impossible, so I went for more of the singleplayer campaign thinking yeah, this is good, I can manage this mission! 10 minutes later...

"Your entire squad has been wiped out."
    *sigh*

There's challenging, and then there's just brutally punishing. :o

That's one I'd really like to give a go, but am afraid of getting too sucked in.

Well i had a big post written with what i thought are the positives and negatives of Warframe but boards decided to get messed up on me and i lost the post:(

Heres some thoughts on it though

The game can be quite obtuse at the beginning, once you learn the mechanics though it really opens up. Game is quite fast paced, especially playing with higher level players. So far the RNGrind is not so bad imo, playing a lot over the last few weeks but ive managed to get 4 new warframes and a heap of weapons which add plenty of variety and playstyles. Enemy variety isnt great, and is probably the biggest problem i have with the game. The variety doesnt come from the missions or the enemies,it comes from the different warframes and how each can be used to approach missions in different ways. I would like to see more enemy factions though.
Business model is ok,i spent a few quid on the game on console and certainly dont regret it. I plan to do the same on PC when i get a platinum discount as a log in reward, which are not available on console.

Im now making the switch to PC permanently as mates on console are not on enough for me and the game is certainly better in when played with people imo, although going solo is a viable option.

If anyone wants to jump on and get a bit of help at the start add me and id have no problem helping someone starting out. Or indeed if regular players just want someone to run missions with add me also. GT: EL_CHORIZO.

Im not too far along on PC but i reckon i wont be long levelling up as understanding how it works is a big help.

Been playing Bastion again tonight, I've had too many games I've left unfinished, so came back to this one. Such an incredibly charming game :D

Must go back and finish up Witcher and The Evil Within too, I've a bit of an appalling record when it comes to completing games. :o

I think I'm almost finished the 2nd chapter in the Witcher 2. I wish it was shorter to be honest. Not that it's bad, but I like to finish games more so than have them drag on. Mechanics against AI get repetitive. I don't have the attention span for single player games as much anymore.

Cracked into starmade today for a while, good game but damn the controls are hard.

Suppose that's what happens when you get used to a game. Been playing arma 3 non stop and don't even think about pressing buttons so new controls feel even harder when you have to concentrate.

Still pumping the hours (230+ last I checked) into GTAV making videos and generally just driving around enjoying things despite haven't played one single minute of Online, I haven't even created a character yet :pac:

No More Room In Hell is my constant go-to game when I'm bored or can't think of anything else to play. Not everyone's cup of tea but it's one of my favourite co-op games of the past few years that I can pick up and play for short bursts if I want to. It's relentless and unforgiving if you're not used to it which turns a lot of people off it.

There's a major update coming for it in the next month or 2, should hopefully change things a lot for the better.

Keep meaning to finish Fallout 3 before 4 arrives but I'm on the Mothership Zeta which was fun at first but is just a boring slog now to get through.

big DCS patch out, so back flying my A-10 (albeit, very badly)

Loaded up Prison Architect again, getting far too over zealous with my prisons only for things to fall apart or to run out of money with only a handful of mine sec prisoners.

I sank a couple of hours into The Banner Saga on Friday and really enjoyed it.

I was tied up with other things all weekend so I couldn't log back on.
I found myself thinking about it so much. I love when this happens. TV shows never do this for me but certain video games get me hooked.

The story is great. But the most appealing part for me is the travel caravan. It's kind of soothing, sitting back and thinking about what just happened in the dialogue, while your caravan plods along through the snow. It's a great mechanic and allows your mind to process what just happened, instead of throwing you straight back into intense gameplay.

Looking forward to playing a few hours after work tonight.

Made some progress, finally. It's only AFTER I killed the Dragon Rider (and half of the Tower of Flame, non-dragon side) that I realize you're meant to go to Forest of Giants first. I didn't see any obvious way to get there so it seems I skipped a lot.

One thing you'll find about the game (or souls series in general) is that there's no set particular path you can take. Usually the game tries aiming you towards the supposed "logical" route but stumbling across another area entirely that's off the beaten track is one of the great things about the series.

Logically the route tries you to go Forest of Fallen Giants -> Heides Tower of Flames -> No Man's Wharf -> Lost Bastille etc but you can actually go to the Lost Bastille straight from Forest of the Fallen Giants if you know how.

You can even go ignore either path and (for example) go down the hole in the well in Majula as another route.
