Guys just noticed the Google docs page with the plans has disappeared. Is it the case or just something funny going on with my puter?

Did my last LSR today - 20miles. It went reasonably well. Ran at 30 seconds slower per KM than PMP. However I really did struggle over the last 2-3 Km, the legs completely tied up and I don't think I could have gone on much further. Is this normal at this point? I had kinda hoped that I would have a bit left in the tank and would have been able to continue on if necessary. I hadn't run for a week before today due to injury so I can't blame cumulative mileage during the week. Should I be worried?

No, being wrecked at the end of a 20 mile run is perfectly normal :) If you weren't I'd be queuing for some of your genes.

Take care of that injury now, 20 was a bit hard core after a week of no running  Have you a follow up physio visit booked for next week?

Talking of niggles, how are you guys doing today:
BobDylan, Diego, Wolfyboy, ZV Yoda, Stepster calf, Alan30 foot, Smashiner hamstring, Chrislad calf, Nop, Mrs Mc knee, Duffer? Anyone else?

Any concerns over the weekend - ANY - play it safe and get onto that physio for Monday or Tuesday. Too much to lose at this stage....

Yeah thanks, getting plenty of physio in right up to the race.

No concerns yet - about to go out for 14M (armed with poncy new compression calf thingies), all mid-week runs went OK. :)

Hi to all. although I'm following this tread for a while this is my first time posting. Since giving up the day job eight years ago I've done the Dublin marathon each year with a best of 4 15 in 2012. Previous to that I've done several of them back the years but my best then was 3 31 in Belfast 1987 and that was on a limited 25/30 miles a week. I still recall that race which was sponsored by Guiness with a free guiness bar after the race. Many people left Belfast that evening walking rather unsteady and the 26 mile run wasn't entirely to blame. I know everyone is finding the training fairly tough of late but if your like me well into the 8th decade it get's that bit harder. Last year I didn't have a good race all, hit the wall around 18 miles finishing up over 5 hours. This year I'm getting in 45/50 miles a week so I'm hoping for a less than 4 45 hopefully. Best wishes to all doing the big one.

Here's my report of the part of the course I've been running. Quite regularly too so I'm happy with how familiar I am with the roads.

This report is in a different format to most. As much as I love reading and writing, I am a far better visual learner! I did this as much to help myself remember as to hopefully be of use to you guys! I don't see it as overkill, it was really helpful to put it together! :D (And fun too! :p)

Usual caveat: These are just my own thoughts from my own experience of the part of the course I've been running. It's not a technical reconnaissance. If I find a hill hard it's because I find it hard. Please do not berate or belittle me for it.

Ok, on to the good stuff! I am posting my report in parts based on the road. I also have a full pdf of these. If anyone wants the pdf just pm me with an email address or I can upload it somewhere and send you the link.

    I really hope it's helpful!

    01 Patrick Street (Mile 1)
    02 High Street (Mile 1)
    03 Bridge Street (Mile 1)

Hi Fieldsman, you're very welcome to the thread, thanks for popping in! I've seen you before in Runchick's log, haven't I? Congrats on your training this year, you're some man. Denis b is delighted too, there is now somebody here older than him :D
We'll be compiling a course overview next week and would love to have your input on that, eight DCMs makes you the resident expert!
That Belfast marathon sounds like some event....Hopefully we'll get to meet you on the 26th, maybe a pint in McGrattan's afterwards?

This morning's run went off perfectly.
I picked a route with a good few hills. With this being the last proper outing before the big day I wanted to test the legs and make sure there wasn't any issues.
The first three mile did hurt a bit but after that everything clicked into gear and the pain of last weekends run was a distant memory. I hit just over 12 mile and felt like I had enough in the tank to go again at the end.

    Splits...
    1 - 8:45
    2 - 8:38
    3 - 9:05
    4 - 8:46
    5 - 9:31
    6 - 8:50
    7 - 9:14
    8 - 8:56
    9 - 9:30
    10 - 9:34
    11 - 9:30
    12 - 9:02

10 mile split can't be blamed on the hill I was on, I'm blaming it on the smells from the bakery I slowly ran by. If only I took my bank card with me:D

    Hi Boss,
I went to my physio for the first time this year and he said that I was badly knotted up after all the road running in recent weeks, which I kind of suspected as my left Hamstring/Calf/outside of knee were feeling strained, so good call to see him prior to my last LSR!

He did his usual miracle cure on me and re-aligned my hips, got my leg lengths correct again and popped a number of tight joint in my upper back. After a hot radox muscle soak bath last night, I feel about 2 inches taller this morning and a little bit tenderized :D

Going to take it handy today and listen to the body during the LSR tomorrow and aim for somewhere between 20 and 30K at a slow pace. Going to bail at any stage if anything is not right. I have booked another appointment with him for then end of next week and that should be my last one as I plan to just do 10-12K or so next weekend.

I would strongly recommend to others if they have any little niggles, to go to their physio/masseuse/witch doctor:D next week and don't leave it too close to the DCM.

Best of luck to anyone struggling with injuries , hope you get sorted and make the start line......Deep Heat and Jelly Babies will get you to the finish line.....em.......not to be taken together mind you ;)

Heading out for 12 miler today, really can't put my finger on issue in back of legs. It's not stopping me run, its not sore, sometimes it feels like if I was to sprint for what ever reason that I would tighten up.
Some advice on when to stretch would be welcome, at present I only stretch and foam roll after a run. What else should I be doing?
    Thanks

Went out for 4 easy this morning DG knee niggled initially but so did all my other niggles after a mile everything settled down. Instructed by the boss to run on the grass to lessen impact so did this for a while but was a bit anxious about uneven surfaces and the possibility of going over my ankle so finished out on the path. Kept the pace easy 11.45 avg. felt good. 16 miles tomorrow then taper next week. Booked in for a facial on Tuesday any of you ladies feeling like your skin in need of some TLC after a summer of running. Family wedding next weekend so have taken a few days off to fit my runs in and while I'll enjoy the wedding I won't be putting the last 16 weeks training in jeopardy.

Aw, thanks for asking! I'm fine thanks. Just back from 5 miler (yes - only 5 as promised). Felt grand. No niggles, situation normal.

It was surprisingly humid out there, so it felt tough enough. I wasn't looking at my Garmin the whole way round & then realised towards the end that my pace was too fast (5:29/km), so that didn't help either.

Anyway, I've my last 12 miler tomorrow & after that, things start to really taper back.

I'm fairly good. I still get a small bit of tightness in the left of my leg, but only between mile 1 and 1.5 for a short while. Nothing else, in fact, I feel quite strong this week. Just in from my 14 mile, which I had planned to do at a 11:00-11:15 pace, but ending up doing an average of 10:51! I kept telling myself to slow down, but my average pace on my watch kept dropping (albeit slowly) - I felt fairly good, and I definitely could have keep going a while longer. I also said I'd try a gel again, after an experienced runner in work said I really should just try to get used to them. I took it about mile 7, and it wasn't as disgusting as I recall. Took some water with it, and while I don't know if it helped, it certainly didn't hurt me, so that's a positive!

    1 11:17 /mi
    2 11:03 /mi
    3 11:11 /mi
    4 11:08 /mi
    5 10:46 /mi
    6 11:11 /mi
7 10:23 /mi (got caught in another running group here, and it was a bit narrow)
    8 10:38 /mi
    9 10:44 /mi
    10 10:41 /mi
    11 10:42 /mi
    12 10:33 /mi
    13 10:54 /mi

Just back from my 14M, a tad too fast at 9:37 min/mi. https://www.strava.com/activities/409880776

I took the same character-building hilly route I took last weekend, so got plenty of undulating miles. Went really well, poncy compression socks seem very comfortable so that's a go for the day itself.

Male ego took several hits. First of all, the daughter said I looked like a traffic light with my red shoes and brightly colored top. Might need to revisit planned outfit for the day. Second of all I was overtaken, while battling up towards Ballychorus, by a lady runner at truly amazing speed. She looked over, smiled "good morning" and left me for dust.

I had to be back at a certain time to allow for children's activities, and towards the end I was literary running out of time so had to speed up considerably to prevent scheduling problems at home.

Niggle-wise, hmm. I reported last week a clumsy slip in the shower, causing my right inner-thigh muscle to tighten up. Well, I can still very clearly feel that. It doesn't seem to bother me too much during the run, but it doesn't do the confidence much good. Physio it is.

Hi sorry have not posted for while but have been catching up on thread whenever I can. Training going well enough still not sure what time to aim for on day . Set off last year with 4.40 group and felt great even though had a bit of hamstring injury leading up to marathon that still was not right and hurting me on day. Anyway at about 10 miles decided I thought I needed to go toilet so stopped but of course it all in the head of course I did not need to go! Went to catch up on my group so had to run a bit faster and felt bit tired then and also Crumlin road wind was bad so felt that too . To cut a long story short I started to fade at mile 16 and lost my group I just felt sore and tired and the confidence went a bit but carried on . All I can say to everyone the atmosphere the crowd are just amazing everywhere. Finished thrilled with self at 5.10. To be honest I really had not put in anywhere near enough training last year and it was one injury after another but I finished and I tell you no matter what time it takes you honestly you will never experience such a feeling as crossing that line. Everyone here is so committed and I feel so much more prepared this year from reading this thread. Just have to decide whether to go with 4.30 or 4.40 . I have been following hal highdon 2. My average long run times have been between 10.5 and 11.1 and felt ok on these. Thanks and sorry for long post. Look forward to meeting you all on day hopefully.

Holding up pretty well Dubgal, did a 14m LSR (14.1m...at my new faster pace) and it went grand. Was running with a mate from my club around the village I live and out into the countryside. Planned a route that I could opt out at 2miles, 6miles, 8miles if I was feeling the knee. After 8miles we ran an out and back section along the coast for 2miles out and the same back.
It was grandest up to the 10th mile when it was probably tipping into a 3/10 range...interestingly enough I was running 9:40min/mi around then (noted it on the split time) and that bit slower causes me a problem but I upped my pace a little bit and that sorted it out. It's very odd this because I'm trying to balance a reasonable effort (without going too fast) but if I ease back my stride changes and the knee pain kicks in. Today's route had a good bit of up and down, nothing too major apart from the last half mile which is a huge downhill. Told my mate to drive on if he wished (he is a much faster runner than me, 1:32 hm PB I think he has) so he did, he laughed as he said his watch told him he got to 2.5min/K going down the hill, not sure what that is in miles but even with me being careful I still got down to almost 7min/mi on the thing! Overall average for today was 9:21.

    Splits of
    9:32
    9:15
    9:09
    9:36
    9:17
    9:27
    9:24
    9:23
    9:40
    9:36
    9:21
    9:38 (cattle crossing the road)
    9:14
    8:30 (weeee down the hill)

Anyway home showered and the important post run nutrition.. Mooju!
