Ya the main fox guys are great. The main NRL guy is really entertaining too his excitement when there is any incling of a fight breaking out is brilliant.

Ray 'Rabbit' Warren is probably the NRL guy you're thinking of. He's awesome.

Generally love the Aussie commentators for league and rugby. Knowledgable, passionate and entertaining. Their weekly shows are good as well, the Footy Show (league) and Rugby HQ. Very entertaining.

Rugby HQ is fantastic. Great mix fun and serious. Ireland is pretty poor at sports TV. Second Captains aside.

Keith Wood with some rather ignorant comments RE Henshaw.
If he has ever seen him at 13 for Connacht he would see he is a natural there..

I've found that Wood has said quite a few things since the world cup coverage that I've found I couldn't agree with.

Not sure I remember Henshaw ever playing at 13. Any time I've seen him has been at full back or inside centre.

Tommy Martin is very comfortable anchoring and thank feck no panto-villain (especially no Neil Francis)

I'm surprised by Tommy Martin as I never liked him anchoring TV3s Champions League coverage. He seems a lot more comfortable with rugby than football IMO.

The amount of ads is making half-time analysis non-existant. Surely TV3 could just double what they're charging and show half the running time of ads here?

The first half of the Scotland Samoa game had something like five or six tries. By the time TV3 got back from their 5 minute ad break at half time they barely had time to show the tries and they went off for another 5 minute ad break. I'm just watching all the games on a 20 minute delay at this stage so I can fast forward the ads.

Couldn't take any more of Conor "I know nothing about rugby" McNamara and switched over to ITV. Not much better there, the two co commentators are very poor. Who is the Welsh lad?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 27,833 ✭✭✭✭ThisRegard

I actually switched from ITV to TV3. I prefer Barnes to anyone else currently commentating across the channels.

I don't mind Shane Williams usually but I think the other co-commentator is dragging him down! Any ideas who it is?

    Timed the half time break:

    First ad break: 26 secs
    First "analysis": 22 secs
Second ad break: 5 mins 42 secs
Main "analysis": 2 mins 18 secs
Third ad break: 5 mins 41 secs
Quick comment before back to commentator: 21 secs

This channel is beyond a joke. It's also amazing why anyone would pay to advertise on TV3 during half time as its a perfect excuse for people to go for a shower, run, do some gardening, or whatever.

    I hung out the washing!

I don't think ITV is any better though.

TV3 has being doing well. They have Tommy O'Donnell on right now before the England Uruguay game, he's actually really good, some interesting insight, not just agreeing with everything.

That aerlingus Ireland's call ad is desperate cringy stuff.

Enjoying listening to O'Donnell and Jennings this evening. Probably the most enjoyable line up so far, speaking their mind without trying to be sensationalist.

Good insightful commentary, pity about the constant ads.

A woman! They have a woman on the panel!

Granted, it's an early Sunday morning kick off and a match not many will be watching but they have a woman on the panel!

    Well done, TV3.

Why well done? It doesn't matter what sex the analyst is, it only matters if they are good at it. She was very good, so it should be well done to TV3 for getting a decent analyst on, not well done for it being a woman!

You're right. They both had lovely bottoms.

I know this is probably the wrong thread for this question - for which apologies - but can any of you knowledgeable people tell me why the match is being played in Cardiff today with the roof closed?

I thought rooves (roofs?) on stadiums (stadia?) were weather-dependent, but it seems to have been decided ages ago that the roof will be closed today.

    For why?

(If someone wants to move this to somewhere more appropriate, please feel free)

I believe it was decided before the tournament started that all the matches in Cardiff would be under a closed roof. Not sure who or why this was decided.

Good for us either way, though not sure the Welsh neutrals will be on our side. Hard to know!

I think the tongue was firmly in the cheek for the OP.

And before any of you start making jokes about that statement, get your minds out of the gutter. (Because you're blocking my view)

Was decided all Cardiff games in the wc would have the roof closed

I know one thing for sure, I wouldn't even look at John Hayes' wife like that nevermind discuss it if he was anywhere within miles of me!

I don't know but my guess is that it's a tv atmosphere thing. The crowd acoustics with a closed roof are much more TV friendly and if there's daylight outside, the floodlights are easier to film

It matters because despite that very true fact that you state, it only matters if they're a good analyst, it's still extremely rare, almost non existent, to have women doing analysis on men's sport. Usually they're relegated to pitch side reporting or brief news updates. It is, unfortunately, still a remarkable thing to see a woman doing analysis on big sports events particularly those being played by men.

Have a look online for the reaction to one of the US networks having a woman do commentary on a baseball playoff game last week. The attitude was disgusting.

Not tongue in cheek. I am genuinely praising TV3 for having a female analyst on during the men's rugby world cup.
