    no i've been misunderstood.
sure his trophy cabinet (bank balance) is minuscule at the minute, but the way he competes and wins is up there with people like Senna, Jordan, Ali, Messi, Roy Keane, Ruby Walsh, Davy Fitzgerald, Usain Bolt, Serena Williams, David Campese, Tom Brady, etc etc

These athletes play to win, and win more often than not cause (a) they're talented, but (b) because they have that 'winning conviction'

the latter is hugely important in golf - as only a small % of competitors have it. Day, Spieth, Woods, Lowry. Huge proportion of players turn up for work on a thursday and arent hugely fussed whether they're teeing off on saturday or not

I know this thread looks to shut down on any criticism of shane but.. this is mad ted.

This bit here is ludicrous. Everyone on tour is firstly trying to earn a living. Every single person. Probably more so at the lower end. They are all fussed about making saturday. Nobody wants to go to the effort of showing up to an event and have to leave before the get paid!!
It Is hard to win you have this correct but everybody wants and try's as hard as is possible for them to get themselves into contention to have even the slightest chance of winning.

    He sure aint.
Big / heavy balls that fella.
I think his GAA background is proving invaluable to him to be honest.
Golf is about walking thru a door, even when its only half open.
The fact that many golfers are afraid to peep in that half-open door means that the likes of Lowry / Woods / Day etc (i.e. those with real conviction) are super successful.

I don't think many will argue that he doesn't have bottle but Woods & Day have demonstrated way more than just bottle to make them super successful... Shane has bottle but he's a mile off the others success.

That is the best thing about Shane - it has been a slow build. And, we have been there to see it all.

From his starting point, his self confidence was low - maybe realistic. But that has just built and built.

Not sure if some of the people mentioned above were a joke.

So a slow build - only issue with that is I won't get good odds on him to win an Open Championship. Because - I have said he will win one for that last 4 years.

Only a matter of time before he wins an Open imo

Any clown with a set of dunlops and a few RAM golf balls could take the Irish 'open' home

Lowry playing very nicely. He's driving it great and the rest of his game is solid. Looking a bit fitter too which is good to see.

Nice that Paul Dunne is in for the weekend and Niall Kearney in good shape, so some new Irish blood to keep the "veterans" like GMac and Harrington on their toes. With Darren sliding towards the exit, it does feel like a changing of the guard, with Shane Lowry at the head of the pack.

I'm away and not able to watch this week, but great to log on and see the leaderboard! Shane only one shot away and plenty of Irish interest.

Could and should be winning this comfortably. Tee to green he is playing super golf but has missed a lot of putts . Missed a 6 footer on 11 I think and you could see his frustrating with his putting.

Been teetering on the brink of losing patience in this round. His putter is stone cold.

He seems to be missing everything on the left. If the hole was half an inch wider, he'd be about five shots better off.

No better day than Sunday to get the putter going. Great chance tomorrow I think.

Very strange commentary so far today. They've been discussing who might be potential challengers and they've mentioned everyone on 9 under or better except for Shane. Do they know something we don't?

It was brutal, I had to switch away for a while, just turned it back on and a lovely bunker shot to the pin for tap in birdie of the same length on 12...
