3-over par second-round for Shane Lowry, he's +5 & 71st of 78 players into weekend at HSBC Champions in Shanghai

Oh God Shane what are you at!! Not winning another wgc this weekend anyway :'(

Course might-en suit him. Everyone has a course they never play well on!

He handed his ball and his putter to a young lad walking off the 18th yesterday!

He's obviously not performing too well this week but he has been doing very well every time he tees it up nowadays, so a blip is to be expected at some point. The better he gets though, the more pressure he seems to put on himself. He seems to look a bit frustrated quicker this season. It's probably a trait that he needs to get as high as he can, but the easy-going Shane Lowry might not surface as often in future.

Forgive my poetic quote, this is it though, his teeing and approach play is spot on, his putting has been killing him for quite a while, look what happened when he putted like a demon, he won a WGC, this is what frustrates him (and Rory too I suspect), not surprised he gave his putter away, saves breaking it

He was trying out a new putter so obviously decided it wasn't for him :-)

I'm far from a grammar Nazi, but this is a first for me, never seen that before.

Yikes! What is happening to Shane? He's just gone 6, 7 to go to 5 over for his round after 9 holes and is 27th out of 30 players. Hopefully the winter break will give him an opportunity to sort things out.

He's been brutal since his WGC, putting demoralising

Actually he has been disappointing all right. Hopefully this break will help get him back on track.

He's actually had a couple of decent results since the WGC - tied 2nd at the British Masters and 8th in Turkey. His putting woes seem to have started the following week and he's been all over the place since then.

His putting woes have been for most of the year unfortunately. Spent the majority of his Friday round at the Irish Open putting with a wedge after breaking his putter early on. Hopefully next year he will get it going again.

On a more positive note.... nice to see him make it onto the PGA's top 10 shots of the year list... who could forget this beauty

Finishing the year at number 21 in the world is still great. Let's hope he sorts out his putting during the break.

He didn't break it, he damaged it and as it was 'non-conforming' he could not use it during the round

No, he broke it alright. He swung it against the rope posts in temper and it bent. That's called breaking it.

Does anyone know why Shane is not playing in the HTOC this week? I presume he qualifies by virtue of his WGC win, or does it not count because he was not a member of the PGA Tour when he won it?

No, he qualified from the WGC all right but he's clearly decided not to play as he's listed as a qualifier here ......

I'm having trouble understanding his priorities here. Unless it's a way of showing his commitment to playing in the Ryder Cup. But even then, he's passing up on some guaranteed OWGR points.

That's exactly what he's doing, If Clarke wasn't captaining this you cant imagine he'd be there. Bit of a worry seeing Clarke give captain picks to Westwood and Poulter for this also. Any of the younger lads on the bubble will probably have to play their way into the team.

Even if Westwood doesn't make a single cut for the rest of the year, he'll still be on the ryder cup team

    I very much doubt that.

I agree that Clarke is likely to look favourably on Westwood if he is anywhere close to automatic qualification, but if he is badly off form, he will be asked to become a vice captain, rather than a playing member.

I wasnt thinking of vice captain - that would make more sense

Is that the Chubby factor or are Clarke and Westwood old mates anyway?
