    I don't see a problem with tv3 tbh.
I'll take anything over rte and the likes of hook, pope and Co...

I'm re-watching the SA v JAP game on youtube cast to my main TV in 360p and it is better quality than when I watched it live on TV3 in SD on Saorview.

Anyone listen to Hook etc doing the half time analysis online?

Impossible. Sound quality was dreadful. They looked out of place. Hook Pope and McGurk should be running this from rte and stop the tv3 sh1tshow.

ITV have access to a much larger revenue stream and ITV2-4 isn't on Freesat in HD

Tv3 received a huge write down of their debt, paid for by the irish public and in return we are asked to watch blur vision and ads.

Its wasn't a debt write down it was a loan restructuring.

    Me neither.

The guys on TV3 are actually not massively negative and looking for things to give out about.

Say in their show on Friday at 6 they actually looked happy and excited about what we're going to see over the next few weeks. For whatever reason RTE Rugby just can't do happy.

Yeah I've Horizon too and a new HD tv, the picture quality is great for me. Analysis is fine, Cooper is meh, but dear God, the ads. It's like watching American tv, more ads than programme.

Are Sky Sports showing the games?

Is it just TV3 who are showing so much ads or are ITV at it too?

    I only have TV3 so don't know.

Watching both TV3SD and ITVHD the weekend and have to say Tv3 are doing a great job. Without doubt the picture quality is vastly improved over the blurry Champions League games we were getting a while ago. Its clear that the main commentator doesn't watch rugby regularly but he has improved since the first game. I love the Southern Hemisphere commentators. Think their accents fit the rugby perfectly. Its a shame you have to subscribe to watch in HD but I have to say theres very little difference between TV3 in standard definition than ITV in HD.

Overall I think Tv3 have done great so far and will be watching them over ITV.

there is a massive difference unreal, switched between both yesterday and thought there was a problem with saorview box . Tv 3 transmission is utter crap .

The ibrc have since then sold the debt to the private equity owners of tv3 who booked a large profit on the transition and then sold the station onto upc.

    Who is the TV3 presenter?

I know the square root of f*ck all about rugby, but this guy is hopeless- he's as wooden as my floorboards

The sound is pretty bad. I thought Ireland's Call sounded dreadful the other day but then I found a video of it on YouTube from ITV's coverage and you could hear how loud the crowd was. Welsh anthem also sounded shockingly poor on TV3 and it's usually one of the loudest. Assume it was the same situation. Their sound mixing needs to improve. You'd think they'd have tested that out before the tournament started. Maybe they'll have it sorted for the next round of matches.

As I said back in this thread, I was up north over the weekend and ITV (or UTV at least) is *exactly* the same - right down to the awkward post-anthem, pre-kickoff ad break, which makes me presume that everyone else is just working off of ITV's schedule.

Could be the same with every channel.

ITV handle the half time break differently. Ad break right after the half time whistle. Analyse the half. Second break.

Will Shane Byrne ever get the hair chopped?

Tommy Martin (an actual sports presenter) talking to Shane Byrne about rugby, his experience with Eddie Jones and lack of ads has been the best 25 minutes of coverage so far.

    Imagine that eh?

Tried watching the TV3 web stream, but it's too choppy. Have switched to [redacted]

Tommy Martin is a good professional sports presenter. Better than Matt Cooper anyway who I think is a bit of a spoofer to be honest.

    Laidlaw knows Kingsholm so well.

    So we keep being told.

Change to the end of game coverage today, they are showing a bit more of e.g. the players doing the after match stuff etc, rather than going straight to a break.

  • Moderators, Arts Moderators Posts: 23,997 Mod ✭✭✭✭TICKLE_ME_ELMO

Bit more footage at the end of the match there and no cut straight to ads before analysis. Have they been paying attention?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 27,833 ✭✭✭✭ThisRegard

They have another hour and a half to fill with stuff, lots of time.

    Seem to have.

Compared to the weekend, where at half time they went straight to a break, quick chat, another break, quick chat, another break, today they had one after the whistle, and just before the restart.

Both matches so far that's what they've done.

And for both of them the end of game coverage was better too.

Shane Byrne was super today to listen too.
I however cannot warm to Matt Williams :)

Matt Cooper seems to have been relegated to the 3e coverage of the France match. Or they're just giving both main presenters a fair shot.

Assume they'll show a bit of the Scotland match again here to fill the time.
