    Play history:
    Courses played: 8
    Times played 123
    Lives lost 119

This will definitely keep me entertained for a long time.

Does any one know how much space this game takes up on the hard drive? If you play someone's levels online do you download them to your wii u or is it streamed so to speak.

I assume that if you design a pile of your own levels this takes up a fair bit of storage too.

I have bug@er all space left.

You don't download the levels. You download a series of values that corresponds for items within each square grid along with information like the time limit, the background setting, music etc. Then your game disc/digital copy slots all that information in to form a stage.

Well worth driving to Athlone for, it's wrecking crew all over again.

Can ye all stop boasting please? Some of us don't have the game yet and are having a miserable weekend. :(

Man this game is so good. The fact it comes with an amazing amiibo just sweetens the deal. Truly, this is the game that makes the Wii U worth owning.

Decided in the end to go with the digital version. Cheapest by far and I have the artbook PDF, the Amiibo can be picked up in time. Really enjoying it.

Here's a couple for you guys to try.
(All do-able, as you have to complete them before you upload them)

I see the Amiibo bundle has turned up on Argos' site, at a Smyth's-tastic €69.99.
    Link to the Mariomaker goodness!
It doesn't seem to be held in any Dublin stores, nearest one to me is in Ashbourne, but there are stock around the country, and it's orderable everywhere.
I wonder what sort of sales this will make?

Also, working with a guy today who bought one of the WiiU Mario Maker bundles, traded in some pap he was well rid of and got it in Gamestop for €300, which isn't too bad.
I would have directed him to the Argos bundle that is a few euro more expensive and comes with two games, albeit Fifa 13 and Wii Quiz Party, Link between Websites! but at least he could have traded the games he had into CEX and picked up Mario Kart 8, Pikmin 3 or Smash Bros.
    Ah well.

I thought that was your default state? ;)

Seriously though, at least the levels on offer to you will have evolved by the time you have the game.

I'm just a tinge disappointed at the lack of a proper campaign in there, even Splatoon managed to put something in for those of us with no mates.

The one thing I hate about this game is that when you choose a level to play, you can see the snapshot of the entire level.

I have no intention of building crazy levels, I only want to build traditional levels with secrets for the explorer. No point in secrets when you can see the entire level before you start plating

    :(

Make a pipe at the start of the level to go into and build your level in that. Then they can't see the entire level just the pipe at the start.

Doors and warp pipes can make it work better when you get to them, played a couple of levels that made great use of them :

    1323-0000-0018-51e1
    1322-0000-0013-0018

    Both by the same creator

I like making stupidly short levels. Anything longer and I lose interest.

Anyone know if and when the amiibo will be available on its own?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,809 ✭✭✭iamtony

The Splatoon Amiibo works with this and when your playing with it you are an inkling and can transform into a squid and back again just like in Splatoon.

Personally I still haven't figured out how to use the Amiibo's I have with the game, does anyone know when your supposed to use them?

When you're level building, tap one to the nfc point, you can drag wherever it gives you into a block, where it'll appear as a mystery mushroom.

When creating, just touch them off the nfc hole on the gamepad.
    That unlocks them.

When you want to use them, go to old super mario bros, and touch the mystery mushroom - the mushroom with a ? in it. Then touch the mushroom and select the character. (or you can just scan the amiibo to spawn the right power-up)

Next week I think? Although I think its a different colour from the one in the box.

Hmmmm.... I don't what I think of this so far. The nintendo created levels are good, but a lot of the UGC isn't much good (so far)

I mean its early days for sure and I'm sure things will get better, but for now, I'm unconvinced. Kinda agree with the game trailers review.

There's a lot of rubbish levels, but there are some fantastic user created ones too!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,634 ✭✭✭✭OwaynOTT

Personally, I think mine are probably better than Mario Bros. 3 and I haven't even unlocked most of the stuff yet.

For those not reading the levels thread, here is how to unlock everything quickly:

    http://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/how-to-unlock-all-tools-and-styles-in-super-mario-maker/

I just tried this and unlocked 3 sets in 10 minutes (underwater, castle and SMB3 skin + airship).

tldr; - use all recently unlocked items on a blank level. Then fill it with junk (lots of single tiles work). You'll be told a delivery is due soon. Clear level (rocket, bottom right), then fill the level again with lots of single tiles. Once you put about a thousand items in a level, the next batch will be delivered. Rinse and repeat until all are unlocked.

Yeah, was experimenting with the SMW and ghost house stuff! Fun ones to play with! :D

The vast majority of the levels are utter garbage.
You'll probably find 1 in 1000 good levels.

CB[blackstarsymbol]CrazyKG has some pretty well designed levels.

I just unlocked the Super Mario World and Yoshi last night before I called it a night. Really enjoying the challenge of building a level. The level creation is simpler than Little Big Planet and all the better for it.

The Super Mario World tile set is by far my favourite and the one I'm concentrating on at the moment. I hope to post up a level later. I'll try out the others mentioned here too.

I always expected a lot of crap but over time there will be some very special ones. I have to say it's a very good game and like most Nintendo games, one that will keep me entertained for a long time to come.

And this is still the first three days after launch, imagine the stuff being created in a few months.
My only concern is that when Nintendo stop supporting the game with server space, the game may become useless, aside from your own made levels.
    Unless....
They allow you to share levels via email, that would give the game an infinite lifespan.

I just published my first level.

    Shortcake Falls

    4046-0000-0030-324A

I tried not to pack it with too much stuff as items kept unlocking while I was building.
