But physical media is so nice!
    And that art book....

Spare a thought for the Americans.

They've to pay $60. Their packaging is flimsier, cheaper and not as nice looking. The box is red instead of yellow and their artbook is also not in hardback.

    Now the European version.

I could be wrong, but it appears that the only version available in Argos is the copy without the artbook, and the WiiU bundle.
Also, a lot of stores are indeed saying they won't have copies until the 14th or 15th.

It's probably my own fault if it doesn't turn up today in smyths. I usual gloat at everyone left waiting for their copy ordered on line and I see some have already got theirs delivered.

So anyway, I kicked off the download and fell asleep on the couch. Woke up at 3am and played it for half an hour. The tutorial was pretty cool and taught the basics. I had a go at the 10 Mario challenge. Pretty easy and I'm looking forward to trying the rest.

I tried some user levels and I have mixed feelings. I think it will be a few days before the quality rises to the top. The highest ranked level 5 hours ago was a stupidly hard SMB level bouncing on koopas over a huge chasm. That's not fun at all.

I want to see what you guys can do. :)

Smyths showing availability online but not in my local store for the Amiibo bundle that I have pre ordered. Staring at the e-shop now - €30 cheaper but this is one physical bundle I'd like to have.

I did the exact same thing this morning and have the exact same feelings as yourself. The €40 eshop price does seem like good value all the same.

I just ordered online this morning. I tried calling them at 9 but got no answer, and didn't fancy paying €79.99 in GameStop (they had a couple of copies instore but I decided to save myself a tenner, plus I didn't want to get soaked in the pouring rain if I decided to cycle into town this morning).

Smyths website has changed from 'out of stock' to 'In Stock and available for collection'. Huzzah!... maybe.

Just picked up a copy, off the shelf, in Smyth's in Swords.
€69.99 and they have about 11 other copies, not on preorder.
I would hazard a guess that Swords isn't special in any way and that most branches of the franchise have plenty in stock.
    Go get em!

That should read, "go get em, if you don't mind being ripped off". :p

You're paying at least €25 more for what is a very ugly amiibo.

I'm having a games night in my place tomorrow evening, probably some Mario Maker action to be expected, along with assorted retrogaming fun.
I think I threw an open invite for Nintendo playa's as well.

You are really going to have to work on that positive frame of mind.
That or go back on the Prozac ;)

And I think, over the artbook only edition I paid a premium of €18, happy enough with that.

So... argos isn't getting it in till the week?

****s sake. Might as well just fork out for the amiibo version.

Postman delivered the mail, no Super Mario Maker. Well that's my weekend ruined. It really is annoying how I always miss playing games on launch day when bought online. It was probably touch and go. If there was mail on a Saturday like the UK I'd say it'd arrive then. Instead now I've to wait 3 more days and it's not the same getting it on a Monday.

Edit: And what's worse is I could have bought it from thegamecollection a week or 2 ago for a few Euro cheaper but I stalled and the deal expired. Last time I used them they were one of the latest shippers of Splatoon whereas this time they shipped SMM earlier than most and I'd definitely have it by today. I'd nearly go to my local post office in the afternoon to see if it came in late but then I don't know where you'd go, it could be a wasted trip and would they hand it over even if I had ID? Damn it anyway!

That's sound like fun thanks for the invite, but unfortunately I work weekends and have to get up at 4:30am plus I promised the missus I'd bring her to the flicks on Saturday.

The hunter becomes the hunted. :pac:

I'll suffer the weekend without than pay Smyths €15 extra. That was the knowing risk I took when ordering.

It's a small price to pay for happiness!

I don't need to pay 20 quid for an amiibo, I don't need to pay 20 quid for an amiibo*

*he said, while getting dressed to go to swords to pay 20 quid for an amiibo.

It's a cool Amiibo, and it'll give you moments of bliss, well worth it, kinda....

And it would t end there, remember the alternate colour 8 bit Mario to be bought in another few weeks.

Makes you wonder why nintendo didn't tap into this amiibo thing before. It must be a ****ing goldmine for them.

Apart from being a blocky monstrosity / delicious slice of retro goodness (delete as applicable) what does the 8-bit Amiibo do for you, either in Mario Maker or in general?

@Sligeach : At least you got the mail! My wife is getting the dispatch and ETA mails, and she's not relaying that information to me, but somehow I need to know the incredibly urgent news that
    Baylon Greyjoy
just fell off a bridge in the book and it's not even mentioned in the show (old Game of Thrones news, spoiler fans!).
