Apart from being a blocky monstrosity / delicious slice of retro goodness (delete as applicable) what does the 8-bit Amiibo do for you, either in Mario Maker or in general?

You can....... I don't know. What can you do with it?

scalpers out in force already

€105? Holy crap. I hope he doesn't get a buyer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,485 ✭✭✭✭Banjo

Is he really selling it at that price, or is he just some weird psy-ops guy from Gamestop trying to make their prices look reasonable? I mean, there's so much stock in Smyths that you can order it for collection from most stores, which only happens when they have plenty of them on the shelves.
Also, can I get banned from Adverts if I ask him that to his face in the ad? :D

I hate scalpers. His ad is full of fail.

"Mario maker Ltd addition comes with art book and amiibo very rare hard to get in shops and a good present coming up to Christmas".

Addition? Very hard to get on its first day of sale(maybe he hijacked the Argos shipment), yet he probably walked into Smyths this morning, passed a stack of them and he's talking about Christmas not even halfway through September. I'd love to say something to him.

When did that start working again? Anytime I ever used it everything came up as unknown status.

Throw it in the bin. :D

    I hate automatic levels.
    There's some interesting ones though

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 699 ✭✭✭blag

I'm not a fan of the automatic ones either. There are a few that have obviously taken a lot of time to put together and you have to wonder how much better they could have done if they allowed the player to play.

The top rated levels are very hit and miss in my (limited) experience so far but it's still really fun trying out what others have made and I almost feel obliged to give a 'star' to anyone who's level I've completed if there has been even the minimum amount of effort and creativity put in.

What time on Tuesday did you get the confirmation e-mail from thegamecollection and do you live in Ireland?

It was dispatched early Tuesday and I'm in the North at the moment so usually get games the same time as UK here.

I played a Metroid themed level and it was fun.

Got a question. Is it possible to like.. set up your own 8 level challenge using your own maps? I wanted to set something up for the wife :P I was messing around with it last night, 2 maps were craptacular, then my creative juices got flowing. Feels good! Haven't uploaded anything of good quality. So far I've made about 10 maps, but I've kinda keep it normal (not OTT crap), like a classic Mario stage would really feel.

I've so far unlocked the 3rd row of stuff. Kinda scared that the game runs out of assets and I get bored quickly. There seems to be so much stuff missing.

Makes you wonder why nintendo didn't tap into this amiibo thing before. It must be a ****ing goldmine for them.

Whoever did come up with the Amiibo idea at Nintendo must have some smile on their face nowadays. He probably has to beat the women off no matter where he goes. His hand is probably sore though from all the high fives he gets too.

No set time at the office anymore. He just strolls in after lunch, chats to a few chicks, then heads to the bar for a few ice cold beers.

Just grabbed my copy from Smyths. The guy said it's a good thing I preordered, as they've sold out!

They've already sold nearly 15 million of the little buggers and that's probably going to continue climbing as they sort through supply issues.

So how do you unlock more items? I've been playing for over an hour and its supposed to be every 15 minutes but nothing's happened yet.

Building or playing? Are you on version 1.01?

Downloading update, then do the tutorial then play a few levels then build, if I'm not too drunk by that stAge.
Just realised the stylus is missing from the gamepad! Have to use the 3ds one.

Ok I've only got as far as playing the 10 Mario challenge and I think it's awesome.

Preordered mine off Amazon. Hasn't arrived yet. Bit annoyed that I could have probably bought it in a bricks and mortar store after work today but I'll just have to wait until next week now.

Again so much better than Smyths price of €350. I wonder will that make them change their prices? Nah!

Edit: And of course Gamestop being the dirty f***s that they are are charging €370. Reduced from €400 so people are getting a bargain.

Had a look at the Argos stock checker for the console bundle. There's only 1 available for each store so if you're interested, act fact.

The cheapest price in the country and it didn't shift one console today.

I thought maybe just maybe this game might help convince some people to buy a Wii U. We'll see at the end of the weekend when people have more spare time to get to the shops.

As this is probably the last really big Mario game on the format it's unlikely to shift many consoles.
But even with it's doom less than 12 months away, it seems that the Wii U still has a better games library than anyone else.
And Super Mario Maker is one of them.
I swore to myself I wouldn't bother building any levels but have already made one or two.
    So good.
Can't wait to see what dlc this one has on the way.
    Hopefully slopes.
I'd love to see people able to build their own campaigns, maybe even create overworld maps to go with them.
Or would that make it too powerful?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,431 ✭✭✭MilesMorales1

I'm only doing very basic stuff right now, but the level create is awesome. So easy to use, yet its so satisfying when you do something that works and is kinda cool. Take note media molecule, so you don't mess up little big planet 4 :pac:

same story here it is good fun making your own course and then trying to complete it, I'm on my first level, it's only short but as soon as I clear it I'll upload it for y'all.

    Here my first attempt.

Does any one know how much space this game takes up on the hard drive? If you play someone's levels online do you download them to your wii u or is it streamed so to speak.

I assume that if you design a pile of your own levels this takes up a fair bit of storage too.

I have bug@er all space left.

I don't think the levels take up much room, being a string of numbers really.
Also, you have the option to download favourite levels or just play them, presumably the levels are just stored in temp memory until you move to another.
