Think he means to name Healy regardless and muddle through the first games with McGrath and Bent.

    Yes

That's not going to happen I'm afraid. I reckon the first choice XV is decided on, with possibly the wings as the slight exception (due to injuries etc). Earls is back-up 13 and will play in the opening 2 there but I reckon that's about it failing injury to Payne.

I think some pairings have to play together in probably the Canada game. Half back and centre.

The42 says trimble trained fully (pic of him catching high ball on article).

Moore will train thursday according to less kiss with a view to playing saturday (30 off bench maybe, needs to be a reasonable time to get some sort of benefit)

Would be amazing if Trimble and Healy made the cut for the plane. It'd be full house pretty much.

If I was told he could be fit for the France game or at worse the quarters then I'd be happy enough with 01. McGrath / 17. Bent for the pool games.

Presumably if he doesn't pull through we could dump him as an injury? Bring in Killers then?

The thing is France is our key game. He has to be fit for that, even just getting some time off the bench. Ideally we would want him getting a few minutes of the bench against Italy the week before. If we lose to France we're likely looking at NZ in the quarters and I wouldn't be too confident bringing on Bent against the French, I'd prefer Kilcoyne. A rusty Cian Healy who hasn't played for months isn't going to improve our chances much if we have to face NZ in the quarters.

Yeah that would be pretty impressive.

    Healy, McGrath, Bent
    Best, Cronin, Strauss
    Ross, Moore
    POC, Toner, Henderson, Ryan
    POM, SOB, Heaslip, Henry, Murphy
    Murray, Reddan, Boss
    Sexton, Jackson, Madigan
    Henshaw, Payne, Earls
Fitzgerald, Bowe, R Kearney, Zebo, Trimble

That'd be a pretty great squad to go to a RWC with if we could get them all fit and travelling.

TodayFM are reporting that both are likely to play some part on Saturday

I would still be surprised if Moore plays a part on Saturday.

I think that interview puts the "Madigan covering 9" rumour pretty firmly to bed.

It also sounds like neither Marty nor Cian will be featuring against Wales but the general news on both seems a little bit more positive at least.

I had read here that media reports suggested Madigan was training at 9 but obviously that's not the case. Was it Peter O'Reilly who said he was training there? If so it looks like his sources are faulty.

    Or his vision...

Seriously though, didn't he just suggest Mads was just training there at the time because the other lads weren't around? Total former read the article so I'll defer to him on that.

O'Reilly said that Madigan had stepped in at 9 when the SHs were being treated for niggles, but went on to say that it was very unlikely we would only bring two.

So basically the media and fans every time there is a tiny bit of new information are doing this:

Here is the squad I think will be chosen for Saturday, just for fun!

    McGrath
    Best
    White
    POC
    Ryan
    POM
    Heaslip
    SOB
    Murray
    Sexton
    Earls
    Payne
    Henshaw
    Trimble
    Kearney

    Kilcoyne
    Strauss
    Bent
    Toner
    Henderson
    Reddan
    Madigan
    D.Kearney

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,784 ✭✭✭total former

I'd expect D Kearney to start.

I think we'll see Henry involved because he's had limited game time in recent months.

I would be surprised if we see Earls start on the wing but I'd like to see it.

When is the 31 man squad announced? It has to be before Monday, right?

There's probably only going to be one controversial selection so it's only going to be about 100-150 pages of screaming.

    Only one??

What if Zebo AND Marmion don't get picked!!!!

Surely if madigan is brought as emergency 9, he will get at least 10 minutes there at the weekend?

We have a contingency plan in place for that. The rugby forum will shut, the authorities will be notified and certain posters taken into custody for their own safety, and Joe has recorded a special podcast that will be broadcast continuously in place of the rugby forum to hypnotise everyone into an optimistic mindset until the 1st of November. The mods will have overdosed on coke and hookers by then and it will be a "Lord of the Flies" style contest for leadership. My money is on Connachta. ;)

Yeh, unless its clear that Healy really isnt going to make the semifinal and final, I'd would bring him. I'd like to have him there for those two games, particularly the final which could be tough.
If it transpires he isnt going to make it, then as soon as you know that, you let him go and call in the back up.

Anyone know what the rule on bringing an injured player is? Can you have him subbed at anytime or is there some clause to it?
