 Wait and see, in Joe I keep faith to proove you badly wrong

As you say, only irrational faith could give the belief that Joe will bring Marms. All reason and rugby evidence clearly says Boss is his preference.

The games are much less important in determining the make up of the squad than you seem to be suggesting.

Dave Kearney has barely been on the field. By your logic he hasn't a chance, but he's being suggested by the media as have a very good change to make the squad. Why? Because the squad is going to be selected primarily based on what they've been doing at Carton House, not what they've been doing in mickey mouse warm up games.

You'd wonder why all the coaches were at the games so, unless they were still considering certain players who were playing e.g. Cave.

I will be very surprised if Dave Kearney travels, think he will be one of the "stay by the phone" guys.

A poor hour of Boss is enough for you. Highly logical

I am not judging the players at all one way or the other. Only the evidence of player selection, management, and Joe's passed working methods.

Damn all between the two for me. But Joe clearly prefers Boss for this mission.
Marmion's goose was cooked over the last couple of seasons when he didnt break in. Its simply too late now for the WC, but he may yet get his chance to be Ireland 3rd choice SH. This, or the 6N is surely Boss's last hurra anyway.

Ok you think any of the friendlies, provincial or international, doesn't count at all. Just trainning.
I have the right to believe the contrary reasonnably. And to think 40 great minutes against a very correct Castres side + Munster away, + 30 min against Wales are more than enough to get rid of the 60 poor minutes played by Boss

    Really?

Those coaches go to games every weekend. Too much is being made of the fact they turned up this weekend, as if they don't attend provincial games nearly every week of the year.

Exactly, I don't think Easterby made it just for 30 minutes of White

    Maybe not.
Maybe Marmion's by-the-phone spot isnt as nailed on as we think then, and he is under pressure from McGrath or Marshall, which is why the main coaching ticket was in Belfast ?

You'd miss the days of ROG v Sexton,

I'd be surprised if Joe hasn't already made up his mind. Basing a decision on a pre-season friendly or a sub appearance in next weekend's game would be very un-Joelike.

Whether it's one guy or the other, the decision is already made.

    TRUE

    Argument settled- thanks Excel!

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Marmion start against the Saxons for the Wolfhounds this year and have a mare? I seem to remember Boss coming on and things improving greatly.

Then again I'm old (and hungover) so my memory could be completely ****e.

I'd agree with you for the most part but performance in warm up games will be less important for somebody like D.Kearney who played a full 6N and did well compared to Marmion who's inexperienced at this level and has more to prove. For example I think had he not had a poor game against the Saxons in January he'd be in a better position now.

Camille Lopez playing beautifully against La Rochelle, very glad he's not going to the rwc....shame for him though

Yeah that basically happened. Some people managed to see otherwise however, whether deliberately ignoring what was actually happening or seeing what they wanted to see, who knows

Cheers for confirming that. I was pretty sure about it but thought maybe it was a different year.

I think that performance and what is happening in trainings will have a bigger influence on the selectors than how Marmion performs in a couple of meaningless pre-season friendlies against weak opposition.

Pre-world cup games, not 6 months, or 1 year ago:rolleyes:

For those of you too young to remember it, this debate takes me right back to the Ward-Campbell war.
You probably heard about it, but now can experience something as divisive, where two all-time greats of Irish rugby battle for one spot, the squad and hopes of a nation depending on them. You can tell your grandchildren in years to come how the country was split in the great Boss-Marmion war of 2015.

Nevertheless, it is games of consequence from the last 12 months that have determined this squad. Not last minute practice semi-games against scratch low grade opposition. The Marmot has lost out due to those games.

Low grade. CJ Stander, James Cronin, Mike Sherry and Dave Foley are low grade. All right.
And please don't say they are far from ready, Pro12 k-o is in 13 days, we're not in July anymore (sadly)

There were a lot more low grade players than just those four playing.
However, all in all, probably more in Marmy's league than international world cup grade.

OK, a dedicated thread has been set up for Marmion v Boss debates. Connachta and Lucretia, and anyone else who's bothered, please keep it over there and we'll keep this thread for more general team talk. And keep it civilised, if you don't respect a poster's opinion move along, no need for sarcasm or condescending remarks. Thanks

However if Moore can prove his fitness he'd go ahead of White, and Dave Kearney if Trimble isn't fit.

Suggestions in the paper this morning that Trimble is out, still bothered by foot injury.

Nothing contentious in Quinlan's selection there really. I don't have time to read the article, does he presume Moore is injured? Because Moore is obviously going if he's fit.

Really? Brendan Fanning wrote that he's expected back in full training tomorrow.

Yeah, O'Reilly says Trimble won't be fit enough to be included against Wales. If that happens, it's curtains for him.

Fez seemed to think he was out for a few weeks too.

    Saw Darragh Fanning yesterday.

He was on the water and his friends were all on pints. Suggests he's in Joe's plans imo.
