How long is it from arriving in the port in Emden to Ireland?

No idea, but timing is contingent on a ferry to transport to Dublin. On my previous Gti, I missed the boat in a matter of speaking, which further delayed things by 2-3 weeks.

However that was back in July 2013, and im guessing there was far fewer transport shipping's to Dublin, with the lower volume of car sales sold back then.

Back in 2013 there was just a couple of boats per month coming into Dublin. So if you missed one by a whisker, it was nearly a fortnight to the next one. I have a feeling there's more boats than that now.

So might have the vrs a little earlier than thought if its built when they say. They bring them by train to the same port. Thanks lads.

There's a least a boat a week at the moment, been one every 4 days (I think) for the past couple of weeks.

Boat only takes a couple of days from Emden to Dublin, but can take up to 3 days to get everything off and in to Baldonnel, depending on how stuffed the boat is.

Has to be checked in at Baldonnel before it appears on the system, then the dealer can call it off for dispatch. Generally 2-3 working days from then to it arriving to the dealer.

If you know the name of the boat, and you are sad enough, you can track it on www.marinetraffic.com. I know the African Highway is one of the usual boats doing Emden-Dublin, but that seems to be heading in to Grimsby at the moment.

    Good info, cheers!

I'm definitely sad enough. Do you know the names of the other usual boats into Ireland? I think "Emden" was another back in 2013 but if there's one a week, there must be 1-2 other boats doing the route now?

From what I've seen in a few cases lately, build date --> dealer is 2 weeks. A mate of mine had his GTI at the dealers within 10 days of being built recently.

So hypothetically a car that is to be built on the 23rd of July (hypothetically ofcourse) could be on a boat on the 27th, in Ireland on the 30th, in Baldonnel on the 3rd of August, at dealers and PDI'd and ready to rock on the 10th of August. I'd say thats best case but here's hoping.

    Great stuff!

There's an app to track the boats too, xxxxx Highway seems to be the names of them all. The app was on sale lately.

The last one spent more time on the garage lift than the road:D New ones grand, I prefer the Leon to drive and sit in but I needed more space and couldn't quite warm to the Leon estates looks so this is the next best thing for what I want from a car.

The Emden or Southern Highway seem to be doing a lot of the car runs lately from Emden to Dublin. Not sure what the African Highway is at anymore.

That sounds feasible - big spanner in the works there is the Bank Holiday on the 3rd August. Theoretically it should just delay things by one day, but from experience it fecks up the whole week - no idea why.

I've a Passat in for build this week (29) so that should be on the same boat as the others that folk are waiting on, so I'll try to track that, but I'm away w/c 3rd August, so if it isn't landed before then, I won't really care :pac:

You must be on the same boat as me then :)

My car (and presumably yours?) is currently on a Ship, currently docked at Sheerness UK. It was due to be in Dublin today but as far as I can tell it won't hit Dublin till Sunday night / Monday morning. That might leave it very tight for collection next weekend, but fingers crossed!!

Update, the boat is currently at sea again, steaming it's way towards Dublin :D ETA 8am Sunday.

Im actually ahead of you Joe, the car is in the dealers and unregistered at the moment. So I will definitely have it by next Saturday, which is funny as it will be 2 years to the day, since I collected my current car !!!

Anyway post up a few pics of the R when you have it, for us poor(er) Gti owners...

Oh cool, nice one. It must be there at least a couple of weeks so, as the last boat into Dublin was 2-3 weeks ago. What's the delay with picking it up?:)

thats great news Joe - I'd say the working day will drag until lunch time !

perhaps a Mk7 meet should occur in the next few months, now that we have a few of them. I've been all over the country in mine, and only seen one in Sligo and a red one in Dublin

Stunning! The Pretoria wheels are so worth the €130 to upgrade...I really am not a fan of the "standard" wheels.

Agreed. They wheels make the car, they are stunning IMO.

Also the standard wheels are diamond cut, which is an absolute pain in the neck for corrosion after a year or two.

Agreed too...got a new set under warranty on mine (Skoda Fabia RS) and wheelworm set in on the new set after a year or so...will never buy a car with diamond cut wheels again.

My (otherwise mint) MK7 GTI wheels were already showing signs of it starting. Pain in the arse, if I were keeping the car I'd have had to chase a warranty claim and all the hassle that goes with it.

Congrats Joe and well wear, beginning to wonder if I got the wrong wheels! :P

Think theres enough of us around for a MK7 meet for sure.

Congratulations on the new motor Joe!

Lapiz is definitely the best colour on the R.

    Wheels are fantastic. Well Wear.

Early days - I've only had the car since lunchtime, but there's a considerable difference! I took it out for what I intended to be a quick blast tonight and I ended up driving on much further than intended :pac:

The power, the noise, the grip... there's a real sense of occasion about it that I did find a bit lacking in the MK7 GTI tbh. It'll tootle about no problem like any other shopping trolley Golf but just blip the throttle a bit in any gear and it pulls away like a bloody express train! The roar/noise as it rushes through the gears is unreal (even if it is slightly artifcial :pac:) This is my first proper experience with DSG too so that's probably adding a lot to the sense of occasion. I'm hooked!
