He had a pretty much processed food free diet for 3 years. The for two months he ate a diet containing all low fat foods but with added sugar. None of the stuff was sweets or minerals, just cereals, juices, yoghurts and things considered relatively healthy. His calorie intake remained the same 2300 a day. In 8 weeks he gained 8.5kg's in wait, 10cm of belly fat, advanced liver damage through raised ALT's and increased trans fats in the blood stream, leading to potential narrowing of the arteries. He basically went from the top 20% in fitness for a male his age, to the bottom 10% in the space of 8 weeks, all from low fat foods. It's insane watching the transformation. Can just imagine the damage he'd have managed if he was drinking coke and eating sweets.

    That's kinda what I thought.

I remember a few years back I was trying to lose weight but I went by the Nutritional Index (how many carbs, protein, fat etc you were meant to have) and not the calorie method. The sugar was by far the hardest one to keep under the limit and I was picking the full fat option over the low fat ones on alot of stuff as it was easier to control the fat intake.

Yeah people eating low fat yoghurt with 4 tea spoons of sugar and think it's healthy, marketing is a great thing. Been reading the stuff I eat since watching, it's hard to eat any processed food and stay within your daily allowance of sugar.

Local bar owner in Tralee was chatting to me this morn, showed me some paperwork from the hospital, had a mini stroke on Friday and was going to his doctor... Just saw some pics on Facebook, his barlady took him to Puck fair today and pics of him eating a fish supper and drinking a pint ....I'd say his next stroke won't be so mini !

If you're going to go out you may as well go out in style!! My dad's mechanic had 3 heart attacks in quick succession and had to be jump started for one of them. Went to see him a few months after he got out from hospital and he was sucking on a cigarette like it was his last!!

A 22-year-old New Zealand man hired as an unpaid intern by the United Nations in Geneva

    Well there's your first clue...

Unpaid internships are complete **** and finding somewhere to live here is a total nightmare at the best of times.

Unpaid internships were originally just a side-effect of minimum wage law, people who weren't worth enough to justify minimum wage had to be paid nothing or else it would be illegal to hire them.

I think it's just snowballed into companies taking advantage of inexperienced workers now. However I'd love to see how many unpaid internships exist somewhere without a minimum wage, in Singapore for example.

The problem with them is two-fold. Companies are taking advantage yes, but also it puts a huge barrier on entry to the area if unpaid internships are the standard stepping stone as plenty of families simply can't afford to support their kids through them.

Incidentally, Switzerland has no minimum wage.

I thought they had like a weird system in Switzerland where there is no actual government mandated minimum wage but the CBAs mandate pay in for most people. I know they voted against the minimum wage overwhelmingly and there was talk about that at the time.

Why the **** would you take an internship with no pay and then moan about there being no pay and living in a tent.

Is there some part of the logic process that's missing with this guy?
