Mob Rule.

What he did was not illegal. It was, however, ****. Most people, when confronted with **** behaviour, let the individual concerned know that what they did was ****, and that they themselves are more than likely, a ****.

In the good old days, this may have been one or two people confronting the **** about his **** behaviour. Now it's one or two, times a million or so.

Fair play to them all.

The more abuse the better for that clown, might stop a few going over when they see the abuse he got. Then again maybe not with these gun loving yank hicks

I don't approve of mob rule, or witch hunts on the internet. I think it's lazy as well as cruel. But that is the time we live in and the internet is very much ruled by mob thought.

In the same way that a feeling spreads over a mob that's willing and ready to be riled up, on the internet, I get the feeling that people feel more free to express the first emotion that comes to mind as regards a situation, and do not temper their words or think twice in how they phrase them as they might if speaking to a person face to face. Then another person reads it and allows themselves to be provoked into an emotional reaction too. Then a troll comes in and stirs **** up. Then someone who was borderline aboit it all reads the emotional backlash from two people and has an emotional reaction of "not fair!" and guns for the first two commentators. Then it snowballs. The original target of the chaos is not really considered to be a person, more like an abstract representation of whatever it is that's pissing people off. And just like with a mob, there is a lessened sense of responsibility of word and action and then things just get out of hand. Unfortunately, lives may be ruined before the mob finds something else to distract it.


I don't think there is a way to solve this, really. The human race will have to mature more first, and see the internet as a method of communication with other people, and not just a sounding board for the loudest voices.

Having said all that, it is not yet decided whether or not he did do something illegal. It appears that the guides certainly did, it has yet to be decided whether Palmer knew it was.

However, in the meantime, while we're waiting...

An interesting thing to consider is whether you have ever agreed with the general idea of the mob's opinion, but argued against their more extreme ways or corrected misapprehensions or false notions it has.

It takes little to mock the mob, more to hold to your own point of view even to the detriment of the baying voices when you could easily just go along with the outrage. Does tend to mean that both sides will dislike you though!

Mob rule on the internet is unfortunately the way things are going. Not much you can do to stop it. Both locally and globally. I can see a lot of suicides happening as a result of the mob mentality, with people being accused of rape or pedofilia or something with obvious societal consequences and the citizens of the Internet taking it at face value and next thing you know the guy or girl has their life ruined and kills themselves, when they were quite possibly innocent.

...and this justifies going along with mob rule how? If you don't believe the penalties handed out are harsh enough, campaign for harsher ones! Being mean to one person on the Internet isn't going to do anything in the grand scheme of things.
