Ye that Android rumout is thick. Lets be honest.

They'd be completely saying good bye to any and all previous software on older systems.
So unless they have a completely seperate device which would work along side the Wii U, like the DS.

I read somwhere earlier when it was still a rumour, that the newspaper in Japan that first reported it is notorious for never having any correct stories/news about nintendo.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 266 ✭✭Irelandcool

Perhaps nintendo could just create their own version of steam where you can buy games through that way and play it on PC. It be very easy to get third party support and stuff. Then make it compatible with all the old nintendo controllers with all the old nintendo and new nintendo games it could work.

The chances of that are non existent. Would never happen.

    Bump :)

First game confirmed for the 'NX', it's Dragon Quest XI, coming to the NX, PS4 and 3DS. No dates as of yet, but it could very well be next year like the rumours have said about the new system.

    Story here http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2015/07/dragon_quest_xi_is_coming_to_the_nintendo_3ds_and_nintendo_nx

    EXCITING!

Dragon Quest XI, coming to the NX, PS4 and 3DS.

Is that an indication that the NX will be in PS4 territory, specs/performance wise?

A lot of people seem to think it just might be. And it also kinda confirms the NX will be a home console and the 3ds might have a couple more years left in it. I think they will support the WiiU for 2 or 3 years more also.

That would be nice if it turns out to be the case. And hopefully the NX architecture is also friendly enough to entice more 3rd party devs to jump on-board.

Bit depressing when stories like this become more frequent. It brings home the reality that the Wii U is finished.
Not that it wasn't known anyway.

Two Dragon Quests confirmed apparently. X and XI.

But isn't it pretty much a given that Zelda is going to be on it too?

Most people feel that Zelda Wii U was planned for late this year but shelved and re developed for NX launch title next year.

It'd be sad to think the Wii U never got its own Zelda title....crazy in fact. I wonder if they'll do a dual release, ala Twilight Princess on the GC & Wii

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,630 ✭✭✭✭OwaynOTT

Really neat idea with the dual screens on the 3ds, with one in 3D and the other Snes sprites style.
That's a feature that could have worked well with the WiiU gamepad.

Oh god don't say that. It can't be an NX exclusive can it?

I'd say it will come to the NX first to get sales of folk holding out for Zelda to come to the WiiU. And then 6 months or so after that drop a Zelda bomb and release it on the WiiU too.

I think they will continue to support the WiiU for 2 more years from now and do a migration over to the NX for all us scorned WiiU owners from the start.

But I'm an idiot, I'll buy the NX on launch, no matter what it is. lol.

They reiterated that it will be a Wii U game at E3 so I'd imagine if it is on NX it will be dual release.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,630 ✭✭✭✭OwaynOTT

The way I see it is, what with dragon quest being on both NX and PS4 - it might have a similar set up as the PS4 and XB. Making it easier for third party to port to it.
If that's the case, Zelda U might be a WiiU exclusive and any game that Nintendo have been working on prior to the NX announcement will still go on WiiU.
So we could see WiiU support for another year or two. Up to 2017.

I don't think a single Nintendo console has turned out to be a foolish purchase, for me at least.
And I don't expect the NX to be any different.
Even if it has a small line up of launch titles, exclusive to the format, form has suggested that these will be keepers and worth owning regardless, so buying a launch one isn't so bad, particularly if they give some sort of early adopter bonus.

Pure speculation by this blog. They use quotes from Nintendo and match them with facts.
    http://www.digi-capital.com/news/2015/07/could-social-arvr-be-nintendos-next-blue-ocean/#.Vbe7eMkUddj

They seem to have left out that the NX wil also come with an indoor trampoline, but apart from that it all seems like it could be spot on .(Some of it does seem very possible though).

I am hoping deep deep down that the NX has something like HoloLens with it. That blows oculus rift/vive/morpheus out of the water imo.
I'd love to see nintendos version on something like that, using their unique controls.

I don't know how people think they'll still be supporting the Wii U in 2017. The NX I've said for a long time is coming in 2016. They've already started winding down support for the Wii U. The only 2 new games(Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash and Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival) announced at E3 are proof of that. Both of which are awful by the way.

Surely the NX has to be backward compatible with Wii U games?

Unlikely, I'd say this will be a break away in terms of architecture.

Do you think so? I would've thought the ideal scenario would be to have the NX be Gamepad compatible and then sell a slimmed down Gamepad as a peripheral. If I were them I'd be fairly aggressive when it comes to using the Wii U library to sell the NX.

Seem like an awful pity to see the current WiiU exclusive catalogue limited to only WiiU owners.
If Nintendo's history is anything to go by we'll see them converted and pop up in digital form at some point, though we've yet to see either of the superb Mario Galaxy games appear that way.

I can't see the architecture being very bespoke, the lack of 3rd party support really hurt the Wii U. I can see the NX being a more rounded design internally, making it much more accessible to third parties (ie porting games to it). To go full on Nintendo mode again, with lacklustre specs, & a pita to code for/port to, would be suicide.

I agree, but I don't see how that prevents them from making the NX backward compatible. As I said, sell the Gamepad as a peripheral.

I agree, but I don't see how that prevents them from making the NX backward compatible. As I said, sell the Gamepad as a peripheral.

To do it right, they'd need to put the guts of a Wii U inside the NX (like they did with the Gamecube on Wii), & they'd be able to do backwards compatibility with ease, & it'd be perfect). However, this adds to cost, big time. Nintendo won't want the NX to be up in the €399 region (I very much doubt they will anyway), & the NX will likely be a cheap, yet powerful little box of tricks. They'll go with a broadly off the shelf design, so third parties can port with ease, meaning too the console will be as affordable as possible. I think after the Wii U, they'll play it safe for a generation or two, & if I were to guess, I'd say the above will be the basic foundation for the NX.

I can see them moving away from the gamepad, it's simply too expensive & adds massively to the cost of production, and the cost at retail. If anything, the 3DS or XL will be made to 'sync' up & act as a joypad.

The Dragon Quest confirmed for NX story was untrue as well, Square Enix have said it's 'only under consideration' right now.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 34,772 CMod ✭✭✭✭CiDeRmAn

    Everything is speculation of course.
But whatever the machine it'll have to be at least as powerful as it's market competitors, and be priced to compete too. By the time it launches, say in 12 months, the PS4 and XBox One might be in the region of €299 or so.
The pressure will certainly be on Ninty.
Another idea might be to have the development tools working in the same sphere as the other consoles, making ports a lot easier.
They'll come for the NX exclusives and stay for the big third party releases.
Certainly I could see quick and dirty ports like the Arkham trilogy being prepped for a launch window release.

Has anyone figured out what NX stands for?
