Thing about Yoshida is Saints could confirm a big cb signing on Monday 10th August and you've got a dud in your team right from the off. High risk for me.

Same for Target, Bertrand responds well to treatment and suddenly surprisingly available for GW2.

Saylor looks the only genuine 4.0 contender barring more injuries. Colo hasn't kicked a ball preseason yet, and some northeast newspapers I read were more wondering who'd be partnering Saylor.

True, I've seen a fair few reports where Southampton are after a number of CB replacements. Adds more potential instability to the mix. I take the point though that their opening 5 matches should be a decent opportunity for clean sheets.

I just can't see them being good in the long run for defensive points.

I reckon Leicester or WBA could take that crown (defensive points earners) this year. What do ye think ?

James Chester could be back in the mix. Looks like he's going to WBA.

That's my thinking too. Of Yoshida gets game time then 4.5 should be good value otherwise avoid until we see some evidence of Koeman someone how putting another top defence together which will be some trick considering those unavailable/sold.

Yeh looks like they are working hard behind the scenes to bring someone in hopefully its one of those times where it done pretty much out in the open and doesn't catch people out who do go Yoshida! I have him as 5th defender so not a problem if I do go with him and he is out easy to fix swapping to Saylor if he starts the season looks the obvious move.

I'm currently working on my first proper draft. I started off with a clean slate and worked out my own preferences for GW1-8 and then said I'd have a look here to see if I was close to the consensus. Turns out I've a few questions for ye!

    - What's with all the Arsenal love? I've seen teams here with 3 x Arsenal players - their fixtures are not fantastic as far as I can see?

I've identified West Ham, Liverpool and Bournemouth as having the best HOME fixtures over the first 8 weeks so I'm looking at Cresswell, Payet/Sakho, Henderson, Ritchie, Mings and maybe a Lukaku -> Benteke move for GW2, although I'm reluctant to be committed to a GW2 transfer.

So... Is Mings the best route into the Bournemouth defence?
    Payet or Sakho?

I'm still distilling through the big hitter options such as Mata/Rooney, Silva/Sterling etc.
For Chelsea coverage I have Ivanovic (always starts the season well) and Fabregas (IIRC he plays his best stuff before Xmas then falls away after that?).

Edit: A WBA defender seems to be a given for most.. I'm not so sure. They have the worst Home fixtures of anyone from GW1-8. That said they do have the best away fixtures of anyone.

I should add that I ranked all 20 teams based on relegation and/or title odds and created a list of strength of fixtures based on that.

I currently have Ivan, Cresswell, Sakho (wham), Mings, Ritchie and probably Benteke. I agree Arsenal's fixtures do not stand out particularly. I'll have one of their mids.

Lots of 4.5s will be starters. Right now 4s are very thin on the ground. Saylor is worth keeping an eye on.

Lots of people are making plans to get Aguero in obviously, but I've seen very few say the same about Sanchez. Is it going to be too difficult to roll with both without destroying your team?

£4m DEF's - Steven Taylor is the only one that has a realistic chance.

£4.5m STR - if Sunderland don't sign a new striker before the big kick off, Danny Graham might start a few games.

    That's about it.

No, I wouldn't say it is. But you won't be looking at Costa, Hazard, Kane, Rooney etc if you go this way. You will have to find value alternatives somewhere but I'd be shocked if I don't have Aguero and Sanchez at the same time for at least of some of the season.

Arsenal are Arsenal. In their first 5 games they have Liverpool at home. I know Pardew parks the bus and plays hoofball (God almighty do I know all about that as a long suffering Newcastle fan) but I can't see CP shutting them out. I think City have a toughish opening 3 and thats why I'm looking at Utd, Chelsea and Arsenal.

West Ham seriously need to crank it up from the end of last season. They've made a couple of good purchases and I'll be keeping close tabs on Sakho but I wouldn't be putting more than 1 of them in my opening side until I see how they start.

Bournemouth cold definitely be worth a punt and we all know the promoted teams start out like they're playing 3-4 cup finals before 2 of them start to lose steam and the third usually puts up a valiant effort till near Christmas. Bournemouth might be that team especially if they get a run of games under their belt.

Liverpool. Liverpool are Liverpool. They have broken my FF heart more than once and I'll have 1 maximum (not Benteke) until we see how they start.

West Brom under Tony Pulis ? Mean defence. WBA and Leicester (Tinkerman but loves a mean defence) are the 2 I'll be looking to for cheap good defenders.

I'm starting to think so. It's too much money tied up in 3 People. I say 3 because for me it's Hazard and Aguero as must haves.

Sanchez is not quite there yet (maybe after this season) I've tried a number of other variations and I can fit the 3 of them in but it kills my defence and basically leaves me with Kun and 2 cheap strikers up front (If I want to have a reasonably balanced side)

Yeah I'd agree that it's a max 2 from 3 of those guys. If Sanchez took penos he'd get the nod from me ahead of Hazard with the 0.5 saving.

Probably just a matter of waiting for the cheap midfielders/strikers who start firing to become apparent. There's always one or two. It definitely seems possible to have Hazard, Sanchez and Aguero IMO. I've just being messing around with no thought and if you're happy to cheapen out completely on GK/DEF, you can have the 3 aforementioned players along with Rooney, a £7m midfielder, and a £5.5m striker such as Deeney.

It's probably a big enough 'if' but if Afellay can establish himself and play over 30 games for Stoke he should be value at that price, haven't a clue about the rest, I don't think I've ever paid 5m for a keeper but if De Gea is gone then who knows.

Better option than Berghuis at 6.0

    Fantastic news for me:rolleyes:
I've had unbelievable faith in Caulker over the past few seasons, half the time I played him over far better clean sheet chance players just for his ability in the opposition box, playing for a team that might even keep an occasional clean sheet I won't be able to resist.
That'll be just the 14 choices I have to make so:o
