    What happened the engine in the golf?

    It's been running on 3 cylinders since the first day I got it.

    Valves bent or something on 1 of the cylinders. Lately you can hear them rattling when accelerating.

    Not good, I thought it would be something simple to fix. What's the plan? new engine? If new engine I would fit a more powerful one, cost roughly the same to fit it.

    What mark Golf is it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,925 ✭✭✭GvidoR

    Here is the replacement engine, wotz. The same 1.4, the only other engine that would be somewhat easily to get is the 2.0 8v but... ehhh...

    And here is the Golf itself... MK3, Quazzie.

    Would love to, but it's tough to run it as is, especially with the insurance trying to overcharge on 15+ year old cars or get rid of them altogether.

    @wotz: I hope so. :)

    I know the 1.8 is a better engine but I don't know if it would be a straight swap especially since he is gonna do it himself.

    Supergurrier I've seen your Focus over in Tuam before a few months ago

    Not a straight swap but I've a complete donor car. Engine box, loom etc all available. Tis easy enough as the mounting parts are all interchangeable.

    Anyways as he states he is looking to stick to the 1.4.

    I think you're relatively local to me Gvido. If ya need a hand with the swap send me a PM

    Have been looking about for quite some time and I think it's time to post my own car.
    Here's my pride and joy Glanza, toyotafanboi might recognise it, it's completely standard bar wheels at the minute as my standard wheels are getting a refurb, For those who are still reading and haven't already painted me with the boy racer that drives the s**t out of his car brush I'm far from it and am a genuine enthusiast like everyone else on here:) hopefully I won't get too much abuse.

    They'll never be a classic if Business Cat has his way!

    In the same way as 70s and 80s cars are classics because people grew up with them being the cars they lusted after at the time, the generation now would be looking at 90s Japanese cars in the same way.

    Just about to drive back from cork and about 3 hours before it's engine threw in the towel a mile from home. At least it didn't happen on that morning on the way down to do 2 exams. Going to fit a new engine and fix it up a bit. Don't have time to do it at the moment so it's being parked up and I'm picking up an aul daysul workhorse tomorrow. Will sell on one or the other then...
