no but galway in particular have not played there much recently so it will be a benefit to them .
it's only a small thing but still :D
personally think it's daft bringing 4 teams from the north \west to croked for qualifiers
A lot of neutrals !yself included would have gone to a double header in a Connaught venue

This will be Galway's third year in a row playing in Croke Park
Lost 4th round to Cork in 2013
Lost QF to Kerry in 2014

But you are right, there is no need for them or anyone else to be dragged up there.

I'm more or less agreeing with you, BTW.

Its not the same as 2013 it was a lot closer yesterday. The comparison would be against Monaghan not Mayo in 2013 Donegal played Monaghan then too.

Plus I agreed with you in 2011 if you remember.

4B double header, in Croke Park the day before the Kerry and Dublin Quarter Finals?

Not sure that makes any sense at all.

    Sligo v Tyrone in Enniskillen
Galway v Donegal in Castlebar would make a hell of a lot more sense.

Dragging 4 western/northwestern counties all the way up Dublin for qualifier games. F**cking ridiculous. Should be in convenient locations rightly. Do those who plan where these games are going to be held EVER think of the travelling cost for the fans?

Sligo haven't played a Championship game in Croke Park since 2007 If we played there more regularly I'd probably be annoyed about this, but for me it'll be a great excuse to go up and also see Donegal v Galway, the only real extra cost would be 20 euro more on petrol and it's unlikely we'll have to travel up to play Monaghan the next week, so I'm quite happy with it, although I can understand why some of you are annoyed about it.

Well my wife is from Sligo, she has 4 brothers, and obviously i have a lot of family and friends up there now.
From chatting to them/herself today, every single one of them and a load of their pals are frothing from the mouth to get up to Croke Park for the day. Not everyone is as negative about it as is being made out.

The only negative i can see is; I'll have to feed the fúckers!! :)

If Sligo somehow beat Tyrone instead of celebrating my reaction might be 'Ah for f*cksake, I've too come up here again next week'

I'm only talking in the context of being challengers this year not in the future.

    They need to improve greatly.

Farcical from the referee overturning Tipp's free.

Tipperary win a free and Tyrone (in my opinion) do what a lot of teams do and get in the face of one of the Tipperary players which starts a mini scuffle and results in Tipp having the free over turned.

So basically what the referee has done is rewarded instigation and basically said that unless Tipperary lie down they were having their free overturned for doing nothing wrong.4 players get yellow cards which means both teams were equally at fault according to the ref so surely that means the original decision to ward a free should stand.

While I agree with the principle of your post, this was a big issue on Saturday on Twitter and I hadn't the chance to respond to it till now. Not once did Sky show what started the incident after the free was awarded but you like the entire twitter brigade of Tyrone haters (not saying you are) automatically assumed that Tyrone started the pushing and shoving when there's literally no evidence to point to that.

I read two articles on the Times website with the laziest journalism ever from the buck that wrote them, Gavin Cummiskey. One was a match report and the other a report on the Tipp manager leaving. He copied and pasted large parts of his first article into the second one, including one of the most irritating lines I've had to read, twice....
Tipperary management avoided a tunnel brawl by keeping their players on the field until Mickey Harte’s men disappeared.
Always Tyrone. Such a shame when you see the quality of footballer at their disposal.

Praising Tipp's management team in a paragraph where he AGAIN refers to an U21 game whilst saying "always Tyrone" with regards to a minor scuffle the likes of which has broken out in pretty much every game I've ever seen. In neither articles does he refer to the tipp players complete lack of discipline or the stamp on Colm Cavanagh that would have been front page news had it been a Tyrone player doing the stamping and not being stamped on.

He's got a chip in hos shoulder about Tyrone for a few months at least. Immediately after the u21 game he wrote a match report glowing about the on field display and then as he sniffed a story his next two reports on the subject retold the same match from a completely different angle. He's in insufferable fool imo.

Who was the dirty team in this game? Always Tyrone indeed.

Now that aside, I was in Hyde Park yesterday and it was the biggest wasted journey I can remember. I'm from Tyrone but living in Sligo so long I cheer for them almost as loud so my loyalties will be a little divided the next day out. Ultimately a narrow Tyrone win in Croker would be ideal.

I was watching it and it seemed to be Cathal McCarron who was getting in the face of a Tipperary player.

My comment was based on what I saw McCarron do.There would be zero incentive for a Tipperary player to get involved in anything after winning a free and the fact that 2 players from each side got booked means the ref considered both teams to be equally at fault so the initial free should have stood.

I was watching it too and the various replays only showed after the players had already come together and not once did they show the full thing from the start so you or I don't know exactly how it started.

To say that there was no incentive for a Tipp player to get involved after winning a free is crazy. Almost every single time there's a shemozzle after a free is awarded it's the team that has the free that run in to start the pushing. Why would a Tyrone player run in and start pushing someone that's just been fouled?

That's pretty much the only reason that a the ref throws a ball up after a foul was awarded.

There's your problem. A rugby hack who is forced to scrape a living reporting on the odd GAA match. He has a real chip in his shoulder about Tyrone.

Yeah I noticed he writes mainly about Rugby so I assumed that was probably the reason why his GAA reporting was so bland and insightful.

Light years ahead of the rest of Leinster so no real advantage , makes it no less ridiculous though.

Fermanagh are favourites in the game against Westmeath at the bookies which I think is wrong, I will be betting on Westmeath to qualify

Yep and Calum McCormack too AFAIK - I think that's enough to tip the scales in Fermanagh's favour.

I'd be tempted to back Westmeath

Even without Heslin, sure he makes and takes their scores , fielding, free taker etc.
They certainly wouldnt be here without him.

I'll be hoping they can do a job without him then, Fermanagh are no great shakes so 11/8 is worth a punt I think.

Banty McEnaney says: “If Westmeath are still in the game at half-time, John Heslin will take to the field for the second half. I expect then him to have a major influence on the game. "

    HT

    Fermanagh 0-5 Westmeath 0-5

Sparked into life in the last ten minutes but in my opinion the levels of stupidity from both teams at times is shocking so many ridiculous mistakes being made that you wouldn't expect a junior b players to do.

Fermanagh have had 2 men black carded in the first half (correctly in my opinion) and have kicked an ass load of wides.

Set up for a decent second half if both teams can cut out the silly mistakes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 43,313 ✭✭✭✭K-9

5 points apiece in Breffni, 2 black cards for Fermanagh including Ryan McCloskey, they got the last 3 points so will be the happiest team.

    17 wides.
