I was only four myself and was in the Hogan Stand, cant say i remember too much about it though. Buts its nice to know i have been to all Finals that Tyrone have been in!

Derry will beat Galway, Fergal Doherty is the only player left from the 2001 semi final which Derry should have won. A sad day that was.

No they can't, because a provincial winner cannot play the team they beat in the final in their next game.

If the losers of Connacht, lets say Mayo and Donegal for example, win their 4th round games then Mayo cannot play Sligo and Donegal cannot play Monaghan
So Mayo will play Monaghan and Donegal will play Sligo.

I didn't know that was still the case. It's quite likely that the losers of the two finals will be Sligo and Monaghan. Monaghan have a great chance of making it though the 4th round so that means that if Tyrone/Tipp can avoid them and then beat Sligo we'll have to face Donegal again.

We'll that's just ruined my day.

I don't come from a GAA family and only started really going to games in the late 90's.

Don't chat to me about finals. In the 2005 AI we played 11 times I think. I went to all 10 games and then couldn't get a ticket for the final. Was totally disgusted.

Repeat provincial final ties are not permitted at 1/4 final stage. Repeat ties of other prior provincial matches (first round, quarter finals, semi finals) are permitted but will be avoided where possible.

I can understand why you would want avoid Provincial Final repeats at QF stage.

But, I don't know why they would bring in a restriction involving repeats of other ties at this stage after allowing repeat ties in previous rounds. Unless it's because the logistics of trying to do this get too complicate earlier on.

From what I understand repeat ties were only permitted in rounds 1 & 2 and not 3 & 4 although I could be corrected on that. What's the reasoning for it, I have no idea.

This is confusing. I'm trying to figure out who Donegal would face if they were to win or lose on Sunday.

If we win there is no scenario where were not playing a side we played earlier unless Sligo win there R4 or Galway win there R3 and R4, and we cant face Monaghan so Tyrone/Derry likely :(.

Lose and we could play Galway, Derry, Tyrone, Tipp or Sligo in R4 and a quarter against Mayo :(. Is that right enough?

I'm not sure that they are feared as a team either. They are still viewed as a Top 6 team (I don't think they are) which makes them a big scalp for a Division 2 or 3 team. I know in my own county Tipp, supporters are really fancying their chances of an upset on Saturday whereas against the Kerry, the hope was just to push them close.

That's kind of my point Robbie, it will make waves of you win, it would be a serious scalp and yet potentially game on at the same time. Your squad will fancy their chances. They will look at a poor Meath team (by their standards) running them close, they know they have a good chance and it they got no further after that , something significant was achieved.

There really isn't much difference in who they can play as its still the same side.

Lose and they face one of the two winners from Saturday.

Win and they wait one more round for those teams to be whittled down.

That's right. But Tipperary are also a QF option if we win?

Yes if Tipp beat Tyrone in round 3 and then beat the losers of Connacht/Ulster in round 4 then they can play the winner of Connacht/Ulster in the QF.

If we win Tipp or Sligo or the only new teams we could potentially face. In reality it looks like Tyrone or Derry, they are probably the best of what is there although Galway or Tipp could well beat them on the day.

Nah, not really. Better ye lost that day, much worse to lose to Meath in the final, as ye would have.

You are forgetting the 2000 league final when Derry defeated Meath

4 changes in the Kerry team, Geaney in for Barry John Keane, bit harsh imo.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,590 ✭✭✭CurryFlavoured

I've never thought much of BJ Keane if I'm honest.

Can't understand how Johnny Buckley kept his place, he was really poor the last day and has been for a while now. Paul Geaney back in, he's a serious footballer.

What's the story with Cooper? Is he not 100% fit or what?

I think Kerry will win easily by 5 or more.

A classic comment from the co-commentator after a Tipp forward dropped a shot short:

'He should have put it dead. A wide is as good as a score'.

This after 20 minutes of the first half! :pac:

Decent enough game so far.Good pace to it from about 15 minutes on-wards

Farcical from the referee overturning Tipp's free.

Tipperary win a free and Tyrone (in my opinion) do what a lot of teams do and get in the face of one of the Tipperary players which starts a mini scuffle and results in Tipp having the free over turned.

So basically what the referee has done is rewarded instigation and basically said that unless Tipperary lie down they were having their free overturned for doing nothing wrong.4 players get yellow cards which means both teams were equally at fault according to the ref so surely that means the original decision to ward a free should stand.

Tipp have a good chance here there is a decent wind at their back shown by Peter Hartes great score from 60 yards.

Steven O'Brien needs to be subbed IMO. Quinlavan got into the pace of the game in the last 15 minutes and O'Riordan is getting to grips on the midfield.

O'Riordan is an absolute beast he's going to be some footballer in the next few years he looks to have everything.

Tipp love to solo the ball into the blanket defence. Extremely naive.

At the end of a game if you're winning, a wide is said to be as good as a score as it puts the ball dead, wastes time and makes the other team have to win a kick-out.

It isn't really as applicable when you're losing in the first quarter of a game!
