Back in the says before qualifiers there was room for a further highlights show on a Monday night - The Game on Monday. Plenty of games this time of year to justify a similar show being brought back during June and July at least.

I agree, there were too many things to cover last night. I'm sure some of the lower profile counties would stomach no coverage on Sunday in favour of decent coverage on Monday.

The Derry Wexford coverage was a disaster with the raindrops on the camera lens and the low camera angle, I don't remember the camera at Derry v Sligo 2013 at Owenbeg being that low down.

What would happen in Derry won the All-Ireland and wanted to make a DVD of extended highlights of the games, would they have to use that short piece of coverage or would RTE sell them the unused footage?

John Evans comes out with some bollocks. His interviews this year have been cringeworthy.

It's what was largely responsible for his increasing unpopularity in Tipp as his reign continued, he is a spoofer of the highest order and its all about John.

That's the vibe i've been getting particularly this year so far in interviews. All fart and no shíte.

He has been very clever about where he went, the dogs in the street knew that Tipp had put huge effort and resources into the underage structure and that it was just about to bear fruit and Evans comes in at the right time and trys to take all the credit for the huge work that had been done.

Equally Roscommon have been one of the top two or three undergage counties for the last number of years so he tried to jump on that bandwagon as well.

It was like the footage was shot by someone sitting on the lowest level of the stand with a cameraphone.

I actually think...I hate Martin Carney? He is painful.

Tommy Carr was beyond painful for the Mayo Sligo game today.

Good to see Mr Lyster back.

Good to see Mr Lyster back.

The Ray Houghton of GAA co commentary, constantly finding fault in the losing team rather than how good the winners are.
Especially liked his comment after Mayo's second goal that "the game is slowly slipping away from Sligo"!

Not sure those analysts realised just how bad the conditions were in Salthill yesterday.

Still a terrible game. One of the best games of football I have seen was Kerry and Galway in Salthill in similar conditions years ago.

McStay calling that a poor Galway performance in spite of the weather was very harsh. He was spot on about the ill-discipline and Derry being their own demise.

Conditions were far worse in Salthill yesterday. I was at both matches. There was a serious wind in Salthill yesterday that was missing in that Kerry - Galway match.

But I agree, it was a poor match.

A bit late in the day to put this out, but just how hungry is Colm O'Rourke? Killarney last night and then shows up again this afternoon! Surely RTE's massed ranks of pundits could have thrown up two separate panels for the two games.

Silly stuff from McStay about Geaney "sledging" Shields after scoring the goal. If the ref gave him a black card for that you might as well pack up and go home.
I agree with him that Shields should have got a yellow for diving, but I wouldn't blame the ref for that, I haven't seen one given yet in GAA.

He - and indeed the rest of the panel - were also spot on about the referee.

The same McStay was lauding McManus for tapping McGee after kicking a point. Also a "provocotive" gesture.

I'm sure Geaney was telling him to stay down again, after his earlier trip to the turf.

Also why was he going on about consistency. He didn't show any example of a guy getting a Black card for sledging, so surely by following the norm, but not giving a Black card he is being consistent.

Edit: To be clear I hate sledging but that was fairly mild, and when a guy tries to get you sent off, you owe him one really.

It was fairly classless I thought. Owed him one? Sticking it in the back of the net should be enough retribution in my opinion. No need for the extras. What Shields did bordered on comical, but I don't think there was any need for what Geaney did.

I did agree with McStay questioning whether the GAA wishes to really eliminate sledging from the game or not. If they are serious about it, then a precedent will inevitably have to be set.

I remember rewinding the footage of the early free for Kerry which started a major bout of hand-bags - the angle from behind the goals - and I'm sure Geaney was patting the Cork player who had conceded the free and it kicked off from there.

His 'property empire' took a big hit during the recession, just needs a few bob to find his feet again.;)
I enjoy him though, genuine enough guy.

So you log on here just to moan about this. I watched both games and this never crossed my mind at all. It really does take all sorts to make up the world. Things must be pretty pathetic and boring in the curiouser family if this is what is being moaned about.

As they say we are a nation of begrudgers and you are a case in point.

It's a disgrace that Donegal are still getting away with encroaching on opposition free kicks. It's being going on for years and referees taking no action against it consistently.

I think O'Rourke has called a number of games correctly this year. Particularly at half time. I usually like him on the panel.

Yeah pretty pathetic to go on here giving out about that. Much better to come on here and give out about him giving out about it. That's much less pathetic. It's actually kind of sexy.

Any game that the BBC covers is like that.It has been like that for years and nothing has been done about it.

Of course it was classless, I absolutely agree. Its totally understandable though. While Shields looked comical on the replay, if the Red card had been produced, it wouldn't have been comical at all.

Shields was (as all good backs should) giving Geaney a hard time, pulling the jesey, in his ear for the game. I think Geaney just released the frustration. Remember Shields also got the pair of them Yellow cards last week by pinning Geaney down off the ball without any provocation.

Yes putting the ball in the net should be enough, and yes it's classless, but it was an emotional response in an emotionally charged arena. It was a mild case of sledging, which we could do without, but I do believe Geaney owed him one.

For the same reason I think McManus owed McGee that little pat to put him in his place. Backs get away with murder off the ball these days, and when they showed the player cam of the two, McGee just judo wrestled McManus to the ground off the ball with no provocation, both players got yellow cards and McGee was delighted. Job done.

McManus just kept his head down and kept playing, and that pat on the chest conveyed the exact same message as the shout at Shields on the ground.
