Some elderly use the post office as an excuse to get out and socialise with people. Especially in rural areas so I'd imagine it will be an election issue in some areas.

Oh I get that, but old people can use banks. Unfortunately the government can't keep routing these payments through post offices so that people can have chats with their local post office staff.

I think the govt will be requesting AnPost bring in basic bank accounts for poor persons.
Banks have failed to do this upon request.

Post Office savings accounts still exist, don't they? I see no reason why they can't be hooked up to the EFT system.

I believe the lads on the Guinness barges had a tradition of 'relieving pressure in the barrels'. They used a gimlet to bore a hole in the casks and relieve some of the liquid, stoppering back up the hole.

Part of the working terms & conditions and the companies just allowed for this evaporation :)

Bertie is giving evidence at the tribunal today, I hope his memory has improved since he was in government, Did he ever get a bank account? All will be revealed or will we ever know what went on?

He did get a bank account...with €215k in it.
The Mahon Tribunal found that he told untruths about the source of the money.
    Do keep up!

Apart from that, my local POs have AIB keypads on their counters, so I fail to see a problem anyway - benefits payments paid via AIB accounts and withdrawn at the PO in cash if wanted.
