Do we know for sure that McGregor definitely uses an IV to re-hydrate? I don't think all of the fighters do and I also read an article by George Lockhart (one of the weigh cutting gurus some of the fighters hire) where he recommends against them in most cases (see link below and scroll down to "Refuelling" part):

    http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2014/12/12/7383419/mma-nutrition-diet-weight-cutting-guide-mma-george-lockhart

I read somewhere in the build-up that both he and Chad were on I.V's after the weigh-in (can't remember where).

McGregor's cut seems to be one of the more extreme ones. One which is probably a good example of what the I.V. ban is essentially trying to eliminate. I'd be very surprised if he doesn't use one.

I've read that article; it's very informative.

Holloway saying how the body shots would have gassed Mendes regardless of a full training camp or not.

That's good, I was confused seeing Chad tired but hearing that from another pro clears it up.

Max is cool, hope they fight again one day.

Yeh, when I googled it, I actually came across this video where he discusses it and more or less says exactly that (see the 9.00 mark). He said he has re-hydrated many times without using an IV. In fairness, he probably didn't have that facility in the smaller European shows but I suppose if you have it in UFC, why not use it!

Just on a mildly related note; January 2nd is the date being bandied around for the Aldo fight which is obviously after the October I.V. ban.

Will it be possible for McGregor to make it down to 145 without an IV to recover?

Can someone explain the IV thing a bit more?

After the weigh in, they go on a drip to rehydrate more efficiently.

Anything over 50ml is banned under USADA rules. It was supposed to come into effect in July but they post-poned it till October to give the fighters more time to adjust. They hook up I.Vs during the night so they hydrate while sleeping, cuts down on the discomfort of drinking pounds and pounds of water to re-hydrate.

    Ah I see, cheers.

Actually reminds me, last time I was in Vegas, in the MGM actually, there's a 'beauty/health spa' in there that does IV 'rejuvenations', i.e; if you've been on the beer too long and need a high end hangover cure! Gas stuff.

It's meant to be quite effective for that!

I was wondering if anyone knows what McGregor was referring to in the post fight press conference when he said he was suffering worse things than a bruised rib? Was he sick does anyone know?

Was listening to something on the radio earlier on a dublin station im not sure(cultchie), Really embarrasing to listen to them, Didn't hear too much but the talk of allowing your child to stay up to watch it is similar to child abuse is just typical of some Irish people, Guranteed the young people who take an interest in Mma after this will turn out more driven, determined, hard working and respectful in life than many others take young Nate for example.

The UFC were win, win whatever the outcome of the fight
If Mendes won, he would fight Aldo next, the yanks would bill it as the champ v the man who stopped McGregor & all the McGregor haters would watch it. They would then have the return of McGregor etc
As it is, the fight was stopped because Mendes got hit with two clean shots to the head. If it happened earlier in the round no one would be crying fix. Mendes himself said he had no problem with the decision as he respected Herb Dean who is rated the best ref in the UFC.
Whatever people think of McGregor the yanks love the atmosphere the Irish fans are bringing to the UFC which can only be good for Ireland in the long term.

I disagree to be honest as I was not hoping for Aldo Mendes 3 and I've watched UFC for awhile. Casual fans who follow McGregor would prob have totally switched off.
That's just my opinion and could be miles of the mark :-)
I dont think it would have had a major effect on the McGregor rollercoaster as he is so marketable but I do believe McGregor Aldo is best for the UFC.
Regarding the stoppage; 100% the right call and cannot believe it is still being debated as vocally on social media as it has been.

I say it was them two arseholes Adrian Kennedy and jermemy Dixon on 98fm. Lowest common denomantor stuff as is the majority of their listeners.

Mendes was exhausted and barely able to stand before the exchange that knocked him out, even if the fight had gone into the third round Mcgregor was gonna win.

I know Irish doctors who go into work on Monday morning and hang an IV with what they call a "banana bag" (its a concoction of vitamins, minerals, salts etc and its yellow, hence the name). They tell me it clears a hangover in about 10 mins. They cant prescribe it to others but the can do it to themselves :)

Probably more so in response to all the claims that they're pally pally and he is being protected due to this friendship etc........
I'm sure he's told them he's not happy with that much media but as he said himself, once they hand him the cheque it's a different story......

Also, I feel conor wants to be viewed as a shrude business man.......not sure how that will go for him!!!!

Well, his business (McGregor inc) is certainly turning over millions, maybe 10s of millions soon, which isn't a bad start, no?

    And it's 'shrewd'.

Conor also had how long of a training camp? As opposed to Mendes' 2 weeks, with a full training camp that fight would have been completely different. Only deluded If you think otherwise.

Conor is also the first fighter from Dublin or Cork to win a UFC belt!

Mendes doesn't do 8 week camps so keeps in shape throughout the year. He openly admits that. His camps are never more than 6 weeks.

If he had the full time Conor would've had the full time to focus on defending against Chad. Maybe it would have been very different. Maybe not.

It would most definitely of been very different for everyone involved.
