I take Jean Byrne completely seriously. Oh Hell yeah.

A scientist who landed a rocket on a comet was criticised for his dress sense by feminists so to complain about this would be a huge double standard.

What's she talking about. I am undressing Ms.Merkel with my eyes everytime her little Bratwurst head pops on tv.

Where is the outrage that was evident when that scientist man said the same thing last week?

Being a bit generous there to compare the Indo and Evelyn Cusack with a Nobel Prize winning scientist.

    It's true though....

You cannot be a feminist then dictate what clothes a woman wears to wear to be taken seriously makes zero sense. And while I do agree that there is a line, people should be judged on their accomplishments, not how they look.

Now obviously, that is an idealistic view, everybody judges eachother. But would she not take a man in an ill fitting suit seriously in work in the same way as a woman in something she seems sexy?

    Jaysus.

I can see an apology on the horizon.

If I went in dressed in tight shorts and figure hugging low cut T shirt would you take me seriously?

The outspoken presenter said that she believes...

She does the weather forecast. How can she be 'outspoken'?

I wouldn't say it's true at all. Sexy is more about how the individual conducts themselves than about what they wear.

The exact same outfit that looks sexy on one person may be vomit-inducing on another. Go down to the IFSC some day; women everywhere walking around in suit skirts (or pants), and many of them sexy as hell.

Wearing distracting clothing can undermine anyone at work, male or female.

Ah she's going on about leather squeaking - 'tis a jibe at Jean all right. :)

It's usually other women that judge women on what they wear.

The ball busters don't dress sexily, and they're taken very seriously.

    Miaow!

Jaysus, why has there been such a surge in moronic, bigoted comments like these lately?

On the other hand, if Jean Byrne wants to present the weather forecast in a bikini just as a f*ck you to Cusack, I for one would wholeheartedly support such an endeavour. Purely for political reasons, of course. ;)

Evelyn Cusack says you can't take women seriously who dress sexy for work.

Yes Evelyn, but if you were blessed with beauty would you still be saying that? I'm guessing not.

Either gender dressing overly and inappropriately provocative for their job undermines their professionalism and competence.

I actually think that Evelyn Cusack and Jean Byrne are the same person.

Or close enough that it doesn't matter anyway.

Have you seen yer wan on Mexican TV that does the weather. AAWWOOOOOOOOOGGAAAA

There is also a bit of an uprising from female presenters in South America for the football tournament where they are taking off layers as they report. But I suppose that should go in the UNdressing at work thread.

But, in my opinion, people should wear what they are comfortable in, as long as they are getting the job done, you should be able to wear what you want.
There also considerations for your colleagues on how comfortable they should be with what you are wearing, and dependant on role, there may be a more corporate image required.

Ah here, are we to be outraged by the uttering of a weather presenter now? I cant keep up.

Siobhan Ryan could come to work dressed in a black plastic bag and she'd still be gorgeous :)

I would wear pretty figure hugging dresses to work, often accompanied by high heels. I get taken pretty seriously when I need to be.

There's a woman though, a beautiful woman I might add, with the most divine figure. She wears perfectly normal work clothes, it's just that she looks fcuking hot in them - she is regularly the subject of "that's not work appropriate" comments from a small handful of other women and one man here behind her back. I just don't get it. She doesn't have her boobs out, she doesn't have her arse hanging out - she just has an amazing figure. I honestly think it has to be jealousy because there's no other logical explanation.

Bang on. In fact I would have alot of respect for someone that dresses in that provocative way because we all know the problems that would happen in the workplace ie. harrassment, social ostracisation

I've witnessed this type of thing over the years. The cruellest towards women are usually other women, in my experience.

There was one supervisor where I worked like that. Great figure and people said she dressed inappropriately.

Then one day she wore sheer leggings instead of trousers. Not even a long top to cover bits. And she wore a lacy thong underneath.

I think that's the point she crossed the line.
