Speaking at the launch, Lord Mayor of Dublin, Christy Burke said:

“I am delighted to welcome the first Great Dublin Bike Ride. This is a great opportunity for cyclists to take in the incredible scenic routes we have in Dublin and be part of a great event which we hope will attract up to 5,000 participants. This is an opportunity to showcase Dublin and our sports facilities.”

Just in case anybody is misled by some posts here, the 100k route is NOT flat.

Nor is it all in Dublin.

Nor is it all in Dublin.

Technically you could argue the "Greater Dublin Area:

    Dublin city
    Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown
    South Dublin
    Fingal
    Meath
    Kildare
    Wicklow

i think the issue is, for 40 euro, you do expect some sort of entertainment , whether its a beer/food stand or whatever. If the price was lower, I wouldn't expect it.

I totally agree..But if i want to go see a band...i go see a band and pay for it there etc etc.

But theres so many things tagged onto these that the cycling is becoming almost secondary..like they have to lure people in with the promise of some tasty burger, that will taste better after youve done 100K.

Its like the events are trying to compete with each other... bit like weddings!
    Marty.

What's the deal with the weird little detour into the National Sports Campus at Abbotstown?

Have 1000 entered already meaning the jerseys are all gone?

Just registered now. But I didn't get any info regarding collection of race number etc.

  • Registered Users Posts: 378 ✭✭Einstein?

Same here, I only received a confirmation email about it. We may receive information about this closer to September 13.

Does 1st place get two medals instead of one? :)

I don't think its feasible to dispatch 5000 riders in 24 minutes in an orderly and safe manner.

The Etape du Tour schedules 1000 riders every 15 minutes.

    No not yet AFAIK

If I was previously a member in cycling Ireland and let my membership lapse, why can't I register as a non-member?

If this thing goes off without a hitch, I think iancairns should get a really big medal

Good luck with trying to feed, clothe and entertain the 5000

Registered my wife for 60k. It will be the longest cycle for her, and a surprise... she needs a new jersey too :D

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,561 ✭✭✭Eamonnator

    I've just registered.
I didn't see anyplace to indicate jersey size.
    Did I miss something?

5000 x 40 - no charity = 200000. cha ching for the organisers. over a 100 km course not many marshals will be needed and i'm sure there will be plenty of volunteers.
5000 cyclists in 24 minutes will make for a slow first 10k.

the shorter routes would be nice for bringing the younger kids looking to get into cycling

in fairness, the E40 entry applies only to the 100km route and given the leisure nature of the event id imagine there will be a strong entry for the shorter cheaper route.
