Anyone been to a gig at the Iveagh Gardens? Wondering what its like as a venue.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,058 ✭✭✭JJ

I went to a gig there a few years ago and thought it was a nice venue. It's kind of like going to a gig in Marlay Park or Phoenix Park but a lot cosier or more intimate. The trees are more on top of you and the buildings around the park make it feel more enclosed. They generally have a good setup with a cover in the standing area to avoid any mud and bars in the back.

It's a great setting - the 'venue' itself is about the size of a football pitch, with sloping sides and it's totally enclosed by mature trees - as JJ says, the park itself is also surrounded by buildings, so it all adds to a great atmosphere...

As far as I know it's just that some venues don't have the equipment in place (scanners etc) to deal with them.
Brought my parents to Imelda May in Iveagh Gardens last year and was the exact same.

Kinda nice to get the physical tickets in the post sometimes too :D

FFS sold out day before payday. And WTF is with being able to buy 9 fricking tickets in one transaction? That's a touts wet dream right there. Fuming!

Why does anyone bother saying this for small gigs - it sold out because there was greater demand than supply. Nothing to do with touts buying 9 at a time.

theyve added a second date though..they could easily do it in marlay park or the point but smaller is always better

Hey, anyone know what time the gigs finish at at the Iveagh Gardens on a Sunday night? Trying to figure if I need to drive or if I can get a bus home. I'm aware that Glen is notorious for running over.

    Nice

Through the frames 25 years, they've always been very lucky to work alongside some fantastic photographers and artists. It seemed like a good time to put together a songbook of 30 of our favourite songs, alongside images - many previously unseen - from their whole career. The tabulation pages were designed by Dunk Murphy to specifically reflect glens personal guitar fingering and a companion page accompanying each song has been selected by our very close artistic cohort David Cleary who himself has been around the band since way, way back in the day…..again, we hope you like it as much as we do…..
We've only done a small run of these books and they will be available at the shows in July. If we have any left then we will sell them through the frames web store.

No idea yet, they will usually only announce that a day or two beforehand.

Typically the main act will be on about 8.30/9 and the support act in and around 7pm.

Thanks anyway, have a meal booked for my wife and myself around 5.30pm and having never heard of the Booka Brass Band but after seeing some fo their work, would love to get in and see them too.

Thanks for your help with that :)

5th time seeing them and they were absolutely extraordinary! Brilliant.

Just a shame that the crowd was dead. Appreciative but mannequin like, f*ck all dancing and singing.

Ive been to hundreds n hundreds of frames shows..and i know a frames crowd...that was not a frames crowd...corporate/freebie people..the kinda people you'd see in sky boxes/free bar sections in arenas in the US..f to enjoy the gig much less listen to it..from the sounddesk back, they werent listening at all, constant endless yappin and not even pretendingwe were sayin maybe its the 'once' element, new fans but it wasnt even that, hoi poloi D4 people..and Ryan Tubridy was there too...breaks my heart for the very many who would have wanted to be there and got locked out

Brilliant gig though..cant wait for tonight

Agreed. Any time I'd seen them previous - whether in Galway or Dublin - the vibe and energy from the crowd was unreal. Last night in perfect weather and surroundings it was rubbish.

I think it was my missus who Glen thanked for dancing away all night - I'd gone for a beer - but can't be certain.

Can be certain it was a slight dig at the majority who were static.

Enjoy tonight, after Acdc and last night we had to travel back to relieve the babysitter. Would love to be there again.

Hence the tongue in cheek whippersnapper! :)
They were hard to avoid if you spent any time on grafton St as a young un.

Had she red hair? I'm pretty sure he specified 'the girl with the red hair'.

    I may have imagined it.
