There's currently 15 bottles of Moosehead in my house. Better get cracking into a few of them.

I'm expecting a count down to 0 tonight from you on that :)

Can we get the time on the first post updated? That said i thought it was 5pm so would have been early but the change to 7.30pm will definitely be my excuse now!

Good call. I'll ask a mod, they'll probably tell me to feck off :)

Just so we are all clear it's a 7.30pm start!

My Mrs does not approve of the beer mile. We have an argument every year about it. I had told her I was just organising it this year, not "competing". Conversation in our house this evening.

"What's the story with the moose head in the fridge, you're doing that stupid beer mile aren't you? I knew it?"
(I make up some BS excuse)
"Don't give me that, moose head is the official beer mile beer, you never drink it any other time"
(she then launches into a rant about me getting injured blah blah blah, white noise)

She's headed out now. Time for chugging session. Not looking forward to it!

Get her to message my missus so they can have themsleves a winge together. Saves either of us from listening to it.

well that was horrific. Had to go with an indoor session as there are still kids out playing. Tried the 4 bottles with 1 minute jog on the spot in between.

Beer1: I forgot how much I hate moosehead. It's vile. 25.2 seconds. I'd love to be able to down it in one gulp like Josh Harris (JH, he's the JC of beer miling ;))
1 minute jog on the spot, nice burps. Couple of unrelated farts but nice to get them out

Beer2: Feeling good and rip into this boyo. Down the hatch. 20.1 seconds Sense of taste has deserted me thankfully. No major issues. One massive belch and off I go
1 minute jog on the spot. Few burps but no farts

Beer3: Still feeling good and try and take bigger gulps. I have the angle of the bottle down to perfection and it goes down swiftly. 21.1 seconds
1 minute jog on the spot. Some serious burps and the beer farts are already kicking it. Slight hum in the kitchen. Now I had only planned on a 3 beer session but subconsciously I've taken out 4. I'm feeling ok so decide to go for it.

Beer4: Take a big gulp, big mistake but I'm all in now. No backing out. Take another gulp. Abort abort. Did a meno into the sink. Ive taken a serious knock to the confidence.

Thankfully, it's only Tuesday. I'll do another session tomorrow and have a big work night out on Thursday so that will also help.

Entries still open for this?? I had a go at 800m with 2 cans of Brooklyn lager today and ask me was it tough.

What's the best bottles or cans? Took me 18seconds for first one and 20 for the second. I may have underestimated the challenge ahead.........

Bit of a breakthrough tonight, on my 5th attempt at downing 4 beers in a row (starting each one on the minute) I finally managed to get through the 4th one without buckling halfway through. I had to go with Corona as no moosehead was available in the garage. Beers were probably a little too chilled, I think they could do with at least an hour out of the fridge.

I decided to consciously go slowly on each one, taking a breather at halfway for a nice burp on each beer.
Splits were 22 (38 seconds rest) 24 (36) 26 (34) 28. Beer splits include the opening of the beer
Nice symmetry there I guess but I wouldn't feel confident running at any pace after that last one. Sitting here typing 10 minutes later it still feels like someone stabbed me in the stomach.

I think I'll taper from here. I have been putting in some serious skulling practise over the last few weeks. I haven't really improved much but it has been fun :D. I have a night out on Friday night, so I am hoping I am either not too hungover or that the hangover will actually work to my advantage. Looking forward to it, my goal is still to log a sub 10 and thus beat both digger and Claralara's only attempt at the event at the third try. I'll retire a happy beermiler if I do :pac:.

So I had another session this evening, a beer/run combo session. The weather was simply too nice to waste, so I grabbed 3 Moosehead, a bottle opener, threw them in my bag and off I went up to Marlay Park. Near one of the entrances was a perfect spot where I could do my chugging. Buried behind thick trees and bushes, nobody would have a hope of seeing me. When I'd suddenly appear out or dash into the bushes, sure I could easily be some Marathon runner in the middle of a disgusting 22 mile long run, and needing a quick pit stop.

I stacked my bag and 3 bottles in this nice little corner, safe in the knowledge that nobody would see what I was getting up to. The plan was a beer 1200, and I measured out what I thought was 400m, but according to Mapmyrun it seems like it was closer to 440m, which is a relief as the times did seem slow. The runs included a few sharp turns, especially into my little drinking cave.

Before my run, I thought I would use one of Josh Harris' tips for expanding the stomach. I had a big glass of water, a bowl of soup, and a slice of bread, just before I headed out. If I can nail these 3 beers on a partially full stomach then it's a good sign for Saturday, when the gut will be empty.

Splits are below. Beer times naturally slower than with a beer only session as it includes the bottle opening, and a small bit of running and picking up the bottle.

Beer 1: 32 seconds. Nice and controlled, everything went down in one continuous fluid motion. Beers were 45 minutes out of the fridge which is usually perfect, but they still felt a bit cold, so maybe I need to adjust for Irish temperatures.

Run 1: 1:57. Kept this ridiculously easy. A lot of burpage but really did not try to push things, and stayed in cruise control.

Beer 2: 45 seconds: Got to about 40% through in one motion and then opted for the big fast gulp technique. Got through this quickly enough.

Run: 1:50. Again kept things controlled and easy, but did increase the stride length in the second half of the rep.

Beer 3: 45 seconds: This was big fast gulps all the way through. It's a decent technique which I picked up off a lad in Oz who was so bad at beer miles, and then one day pulled out a good one, and only finished 1 place behind me. This was his secret. Damage limitation type of stuff.

Run 3: 1:49. This was a serious struggle. My stomach felt full, and in complete knots during this run. I burped a lot, but knowing this was my last rep, I pushed the second half out a bit. I was nowhere near 100% through any of this, but got myself to the end in a position where I know I had a 4th beer and 4th lap in me if I really had to.

Total time was 7:40. It would be very close to 7 minutes flat had I ran 400 rather than 440. Feeling in good shape. PB will be tough because of the cinder, but should go much faster than last year.

Job done. Next session will be Thursday and a 4 x Beer session with no run. Then taper.

Good mix of sessions logged tonight,

I went with the TRR version with the Chivito prep. Full stomach after dinner and with a good bit of water, then 3 x Moosehead with 1 min jogging on the spot.

    Didn't go well. At all.

I could even get through the first one in one go. It was all frothy as if it was shaken up beforehand, I'd have got a penalty lap for that I'm sure.

38 seconds, not too bad I guess. The run was manageable. Second one was tough. 1 minute, jog was a struggle. Struggled to finish the third one, was going to give up but got through it in 1 min 10. Gave up on the jog after 45 seconds. No puke though.

    I hate Moosehead.

Don't feel like you have to down the beer in one go Adrian. If you look at the videos from previous beermiles you will see that very few people neck their beers (possibly barring the first one). I have been training to have a breather each beer and I think it actually improves the overall time.

I think it's becoming quite clear now whose missus reads here and whose doesn't. TRR & PM - ye're very brave there - obviously neither missus reads what ye write here. Shels - think your missus might be writing it :p:p

Edit - If our grammar mod reads that he'll have a field day ;)

Yeah because two guys sneaking out of the bushes in Marley wouldn't be strange at all!

I'm very impressed with all the training going on. Best of luck everyone!

I figure if there are a few of us it would be a bit more acceptable for this particular brand of training. Otherwise it just looks like someone trying to make themselves sick.

I was talking to TRR tonight about the prizes.
There are 5 prizes in total and I think we both agreed one should be awarded to the first female, regardless of overall position.
Now there are no females registered to compete at the moment, but can this revelation tempt a few out of the woodwork? Remember the title of national Beermile champion is also on the line, there might never a better chance to be a national athletics champion.

If I wasn't on call that weekend I would give it a go. I'm actually thinking of heading over anyway to take notes for next year! I think there's one or two ladies who could be convinced though.....

I would have liked to have done it...but getting there was too much of a hassle and the husband wasn't happy with me knocking back beers in a park with blokes from the internet I'd never met before, so we compromised and I'm allowed watch you all instead :D

Most importantly there's no way I could run 50k in Feb :pac:

Can't understand why no women are up for this. We'd usually get about 5-6 women at least per beer mile in Oz, and one would usually run low to mid 7 minutes for it. There was another girl, who is Irish, who managed to beat me, when I ran my PB. Good standard.

Will Pacing Mule be eligible for the women's title given his costume?

Ah forgot that. If I got called in to work I'd have to abandon you! Might head over to watch though.
I don't mind the farting so much once it's outside. I have an eight year old son so I'm used to it!
    Next year......

Just the 4 beers with no running tonight. Decided to try and drink them with a short gap to simulate a race.
Was just on 330 ml beers so will be a step up on race day.

    Beer 1 11 seconds
    30 second recovery
    Beer 2 13 seconds
    30 second recovery
Beer 3 18 seconds foamed up a bit and almost drowned.
    30 second break
    Beer 4 14 seconds
After that if I had run I would have puked or worse.

Think if I can get the drinking right on the night I might have a shot at breaking 10 minutes but the running will be the hard part. Need to make sure to keep the heart rate low on the run and maybe run about 9 minute pace for 400's.
