Only recently set this box up. Working well. The menu system is quite complicated so i am trying to figure out how to stop a notification regarding cacheflush popping every few hours. Anyone have any idea?

Really happy with it though. Very smooth and responsive. EPG and record function seems to be working well. Still on OpenATV 4.2. Any benefit to upgrading to 5.0?

There's an option in there to have messaging on or off, however I've removed Cache Flush completely and have been more stable without it. The system manages its cache quite nicely without any user scheduling.

    Interesting...might try that

    Hi,

Have just cancelled Sky and looking at buying either this box or the Technomate nano 3T.

Which would be the better box ?

Also, I think the Sky box has a 500gig hard drive so if I took it out would it be possible to format it in one of these boxes?

    Thanks,
    doney84

As far as i know, a sky hd box (amstrad drx890) uses a 3.5" hdd, both the optimuss and the technomate only have the option of installing an internal 2.5" drive so your only option to use the drive from a sky box would be to externally mount it within a 3.5" enclosure (open to correction of course)
A vu+ duo2 has the option of mounting an internal 3.5" or "2.5" hdd but your gonna pay serious bucks for one of these.
Only other ones that comes to mind for a 3.5" is a vu+uno and a duo (there are probably more though)

Have a look at the Gigablue Quad HD Plus box as well.
I have it setup for my parents and it seems to be running well. It is still early days though. It has an Android App that allows streaming of live TV and recorded shows from your box as well.

I think the key is to have a receiver that is actively supported with OpenVix.
It is specifically tailored to UK/Irish markets so is less likely to have bugs for the things you need.

The specs are very good but it does cost a bit more than the Edision (~€100).

Anyone tried hdf 5.1 image yet? Might try it tonight and see how I get on.

Also does anyone know is there a way to label the harddive RECORD as some images require without taking the hard drive out and formatting with the likes of paragon?

Loaded HDF 5.1 this morning. No problems so far.

Will be interested on how it goes so will be keeping an eye. Openatv has been running ok for me of late so don't want to change just yet although I have the hdf downloaded just in case.

Does the hdf bring anything extra to the party?

Not that I've noticed. Froze up on me last night just like the OpenATV images do every so often. Bit more involved with the setup too but have it all working as I want now. Just have to see what stability is like.

Just ordered the Optimiuss OS3+ from FreeTV.ie.
I know it comes preinstalled with Enigma2 but I'm not sure which image this is (or is based on) yet.
What is the latest consensus on what is the best/most stable image and set of plugins to use right now?
I read the thread from start to finish but am still not clear... :o
    Thanks a lot.

Will be the openatv image. Think they are still using version 4.2 as far as I know. I'm running version 5.0 without too many problems.

    Thanks a lot.
I assumed that they were still using 4.2 but will check when I get it.
Are you using the 5.0 image from here?

    http://images.mynonpublic.com/openatv/5.0/index.php

Is there a generally recommended/"mandatory" set of plugins?
I see that the FreeTV.ie image includes the following by default:
To Load This Open ATV 4.2 Back upon your Edision Optimuss OS3+ onto your box,

Unzip the update folder and put it onto the root of your USB Stick

Insert the stick into your box
    Power the box on
After 3-5 seconds a screen will come up saying new firmware found and to press the channel - button to load it , ( I use the Program - button on the front of the box)

It may take 2-3 monutes to upload then your box will boot up with the new firmware on board

    Whats on this image ?

Autoboquestmaker with a UK and Ireland Channel List
    Cron Job
    Cache Flsuh
    My Metrixlite
    Cool TV Guide
Cross EPG ( Make sure this is loading to a USB stick or internal Hard Drive)
    EMC V3.7.4
    Media Player
    Media Scanner
    OpenWebif
    Picture Player

    FTP/TeleNet
    User root
Password blank ( type nothing )

Lots more plugins available in plugins and downloads , always make sure to do a back up before adding plugins and to do a software update at least once a week

Yip, that is the one. From the list of plugins I removed the cooltv guide which seemed to cause me problems.

Sorry if this is a dumb question but did you then have to install something else to replace Cooltv?

The built in graphical multi epg works just as well.

    Ah - OK thanks.

Yeah I set it up on the epg button by going to

    Menu
    Setup
    Devices
    Remote Control
    Hotkey Setup

Then assign Graphical Multi EPG to the Epg/guide button.

Is there any way to change button assignments in the built in epg? I want to change how you change bouquet, how you change day and how you page up and down through the channels in each bouquet. Also seem to have a problem with Saorview epg not populating in the built in epg.

No problems here with saorview in the epg. Is the programme info coming up in the channel list for saorview?

I assume you know each time you reboot you need to tune to each saorview mux for a second to pull in the epg for them.

Doesn't seem to be any way to change buttons in the epg guide.

Yeah its populating for today but not for the days ahead. I'll leave the channel tuned in longer and see. Buttons are mess compared to cool tv guide.

    Hi,

I have an Amiko Alien 2 currently. Enigma2 is very unstable for me, due to what I think is a hardware issue. Anyway, thinking of getting an OS3.

Could someone check the length of the power cord for me each side of the power unit?

I have my STB's in a elevated cabinet and want to know if I need to buy a longer power cord. Thanks.

Not home at the moment but it has a standard figure of 8 lead plugged into the power supply/brick. Amazon have one at 5 metres so should not be a problem.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,168 ✭✭✭TM

Just received mine so straight out of the box... (but I'm using a stock picture below) :-)

On left: Power cord from mains to PSU is 1.2m.
On right: Cable from PSU to box is about 1.2m too.
So about 2.4m in total not counting the length of the PSU box itself.
    Hope that helps.

Crashville - The box does not like the latest openatv 5.0, couldn't get past the set-up screen before it would crash. Was going so well before I decided to flash the latest image, maybe if I updated it through the usb it would have made a difference.

Decided I would try something new so have loaded the latest hdfreaks which went ok and picked up my previous settings although can't get the wifi dongle sorted so will have to work on that.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 431 ✭✭NegativeOne

Haven't managed to go a day using this box without it crashing for one reason or another. The software is a real let down. If I knew how bad it was I'd have just bought another aa2.

    What image are you using?
    What plugins are you adding?

Tried openatv and hdfreaks. Hdfreaks was slightly more stable but it still has some bugs. Kept plugins to a minimum, just crossepg, rats autobouquets

Odd since THE ALM for one seems to have reported it being stable enough - on OpenATV 5 I think?

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=95682537&postcount=340

I'm not in a position to install and use mine yet but will report back when I do get around to it...
