The only brand he was missing was Titleist! Keeping his future club deal options open.

The more i hear Shane doing interviews the more down to earth he seems. Great to see a pro who is more about feel than technique etc. He must be unique using such an old driver all the same.

    Snedeker uses the same:

I agree he gets more likeable every time you read about or see something with him in it.

Not a headcover in sight :D

Confirmation that Shane is now exempt for the US Open.

Category 13 is players in the OWGR top 60 yesterday (Mon May 25th), anyone who gets in to the top 60 on Mon June 15th will also make the grade under Category 14 .....

Splendid - and well deserved. Love following him on shot tracker when he isn't on TV.

Doubt the USGA will have shot tracker, dont think they did last year. Maybe they'll take a leaf out of The Masters book though.

He's in good form running into the Irish Open, reckon he'll do well in it.

Tough day for scoring today, but Shane not too far off the pace.

Without looking at stats - what I seen , he still looks like he is struggling with putting from under 8 feet.

So he is playing well considering.

European Tour radio claiming he used a wedge to putt on the 15th.
May have damaged his putter they say.

*snapped it near the hosel he said.

Damaged it on purpose I presume?

    If so what an idiot!

He seemed to be very animated in some of the shots I saw of him yesterday. This tournament means a lot to him and coming in with good form, means he probably put a bit of pressure on himself. As In said he seemed very frustrated on 15 yesterday.

Apparently broke it himself or he would have been allowed replace it. :(

Not surprised something like this happened. Followed him around for 16 holes yeasterday (and the Big Easy naturally ;)) and he was in foul enough humour all day.

Probably like a previous poster said; put too much pressure on himself for this event (not unlike Rory). Harry seems to be coping alright; what's that saying about the old dog for the hard road and the pup for the gutter :pac:

While perhaps somewhat understandable it was still not pleasant to watch. I know a lot of people have great time for Shane including myself ( I was out supporting him in sideways hale) but my fist time following him live was disappointing.

He lost it after he thought he heard a camera click in his backswing on what might have been 7 ( Edit: It was 8). He started f-ing and blinding, I'm no prude but there is a lot of young children around.

He walked off the green on 12 to the next tee with Molinari still to putt for birdie. He must understand he can't really do this at his home open as it brought a lot of the fans with him who are just there to watch him. Thankfully Molinari made the put.

He started cursing again on 15 and took a lump out of the turf in frustration at a poor chip. Then I decided to leave him to it and joined Harrington for the last couple. I'd originally planned to follow Harrington as I always do in these events but I said I'd follow Shane (Ernie was obviously a factor in the decision). Bad decision :( But great to see Harrington leading all the same.

Anyway don't want to appear overly critical of Shane as he's so popular and I enjoy his personality. He's still a young guy learning his craft but he let pressure and frustration get the better of him. Disappointingly it looks as if he wasn't able to reset and start again afresh today.

Making the cut will be touch and go. Just hope he makes it and calms down.

    From the RTE website...

And Shane Lowry's round of 74 was almost as impressive considering the 2009 champion broke his putter on the third hole of the day and putted with a wedge for the last 15, which he covered in two over par to be four over for the tournament.

"I'm not proud of myself and I apologised to the lads (playing partners Francesco Molinari and Ernie Els) at the end," Lowry said. "It's not something you want the kids watching to see. I'm trying so hard and I got frustrated.

"The 12th is an easy par five, I missed from two feet for par and stupidly hit my putter off a metal fence post.

"I don't deserve to make the cut doing something like that but I'm a passionate player and wear my heart on my sleeve. It's not the first club I've broken and it won't be the last."

4 over is guaranteed to make the cut. It seems likely to go out to 5 over, or possibly even 6 over.

So he doesn't want to set a bad example for kids, but if you're passionate and wear your heart on your sleeve, this is par for the course.

In fairness, his brain is probably a bit scrambled and maybe he's a bit too honest for his own good. Let's hope he has a good weekend.

personally i'm delighted and surprised by this act of aggression. don't often see passion in his game.

Delighted? Seriously? Also... Shane always shows passion when he is out playing.

I was standing a hole ahead of him when he broke the putter... must say it was funny to see him putt with the wedge. It was a stupid thing to do but sure everyone has their f**k ups. 2 under thru 4 today so hopefully he can get back on track.
