Look I'm only just saying that I'm very sensitive and I hope that you could find it in your heart to be more considerate towards me.

My criticism is based on not only your own posts but by the rest of the anti-Top Gear brigade:

This has been a common theme in this thread and throughout society - a theme of gloating, based purely on elitism, snobbery and condescending towards a people (Top Gear viewers who you and your ilk obviously view as sub-human) that at least some of you hate and despise. The Guardian has been a considerable part of this, and I suspect both of you are readers.
    What's your point here?

I read the Guardian, watched Top Gear, didn't agree with much of Clarkson's ramblings but still read and enjoyed some of his books (World According to Clarkson and its ilk). Yep, a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma - but I doubt I'm the only one

Sorry to see it go but the BBC had little choice - regardless of whether it was his first infraction or not (I do agree that some of the criticisms of previous events are unwarranted given JC was working on a scripted show).

    No gloating or elitism here.

Sort of funny, people aren't allowed to slag off top gear fans for being idiots. But you're constantly slagging off "guardian readers" for being elitist snobs.
In fact, top gear fans seem to think "guardian readers" is some sort of slag. Is it even available in ireland?

Well, a lot of Irish read the online version. But yeah, it's a lazy swipe. I read lots of articles on the Guardian website and disagree with as many as I agree with.

Doesn't even nearly top "politically correct ayatollahs" which someone mentioned a few pages back. Had to laugh at that one to be honest, nearly as good as someone previously berating a car as "stupid and PC" because... they just didn't like it. :pac:

Credit to him. An amazing man which we can all admire. I wish him all the best when he gets his own version of Top Gear up and running. Can not wait :D

Must be running out of cash if he is still trying to 'cash in' on the name.

Trying to flog a dead horse, before the new team come in.

When the Beeb get the new show up and running, in my opinion, that lot will be history.

They had their day it would appear.

    This one.

"The BBC plans to relaunch Top Gear with new presenters. Evans, a noted car enthusiast, had been linked to the reboot but has ruled himself out."

So in a 'battle' between a re-launched Top Gear with new presenters and a show based on a format that has demonstrably been a multi million pound product that has spawned franchise copies and made the presenters one of the most marketable packages in the world of media you are backing the new comers?

Other than your own distaste for the presenters can I ask what makes you think that Clarkson et al will be history?

BB I just think that that format has run its course, the time has come to modernise and move away from the kind of persona that that team project.

In fairness they were very popular amongs a certain segment of viewers but like all things, the LLS, Bruce Forsythe, Noel Edmonds, Cilla Black, Esther Rantzen, etc etc.things move on.

Once they are off the screens and the new vibrant younger team finds its feet with new ideas and new techniques, the old team with their dated attitudes,in my opinion will be history.

That's usually how these things work out anyway.

I agree that things change, tastes in the media certainly do, your examples are evidence of that
The angle Im coming from is to compare the two projects/concepts, and consider which is more likely to be a success

Option 1 - A 'new' format, with a new production team and a new set of presenters who may or may not grow on the viewing audience, some of whom will be determined to dislike it because its not Clarkson et al and a media that delight in stirring the sh*t

Option 2 - A tested format that has sold for millions, spawned franchised copies with 3 presenters whom have a supportive and loyal audience probably utilising some of the same production crew (Andy Wilman for example) and if more than one TV broadcaster can be tempted into a bidding war a much bigger budget

I get that the new show needs time to find its feet and the BBC will be desperate to create a replacement, but I just cant equate that to Clarkson & co being consigned to the history books just yet given the world wide appeal of the format/presenters/franchise

Well, I think he has a point because Top Gear was not just three presenters. The original presenters are entertaining in there own way but there was a massive team of people behind them at the BBC who all contributed to the quality of the show. Clarkson etc.. will be starting out with a new team of people and competing with a significantly large proportion of the original people who are very experienced at making Top Gear an entertaining show. The popularity of new Top Gear will rest in the likability of the new presenters and whether they chose to continue the same format or come up with a new one.

The Original presenters obviously will draw a large amount of the original top gear fans to their new show, but it will be short lived if the production quality is poor.

Also, there is nothing to say that both shows will not be good. Both Top Gear with its new presenters and Clarkson's new show could be great.

Indeed they could, but I doubt it.

Back up and a team behind you, as Ish pointed out is extremely important.

The BBC pumped a lot of resources and talent into the show,a lot of it on the back room production .

Once Clarkson an the other two are off the screens in that format, the viewers will be ready to move on and change for the future
