Switched over the insurance today. 77 euro charged for the fine service. Only took 3 phone calls . Was hoping it would go down being a newer, smaller engined car but it does 50hp more i suppose. I have a feeling my premium will go up when it expires in July. Already paying near 700.

Cheers man. By far the nicest car I've had anyway. Ye it's a 1.8. wanted a 2 litre ideally but wasn't too pushed either way on that or the 1.8. Interior is sweet alright, so comfy. That had it sold along with the engine and box being perfect, apart from needing the big service and a bad oil leak from the rocker cover sorted. My mate works for a lad who served his time working on alfa and fiats. He still drives a fairly mint 2001 2.0 156. Handy enough that he has the special tools I can just get him to throw an eye on it as I'm doing the belts and any other tricky jobs. Only 10 minutes from home too.

Interior as it is. Haven't got a chance to clean it even. Studying and doing exams at the moment... so on here alot :pac:.

The leather is in good nick, the back is perfect. The only worn bit is the drivers seat.

    k1ysf7.jpg

Need to get proper mats and a steering wheel.

    5foxm9.jpg

It has a bad side body work wise. The drivers door needs to be replaced, worse than it looks in this pic. Makes an awful creak too when you open it. Good otherwise so not urgent.

    2ce3zhd.jpg

Want to sort these two little spots too. They're on the same side. Only rust on the car really. Do alot of surfing so the galvo body is the right job with all the salt spray it'll be dealing with.
    2jazp6g.jpg

All the other arches are good but for some reason this one has a that bad spot in the pic and a few small spots along the top of the arch. A Side skirt need a self tapper ;). Wheels are in good nick, just flaking here in there. Your man said he's getting a sand blasting cab though for his next workshop purchase :).

    15xpm5k.jpg

Looks like something use to be in that threaded hole on top of the front shock tower. Same on the other side. Any ideas .

    2gskbva.jpg

Details! Not sure! I know/think it has a sportspack, with the skirts seats and carbon surround in the and stuff. It has two cool little gove boxes in the boot too. Not sure if they're standard or not.

Had my first look at an alfa forum last night. It was saying the sw's came with the sports pack minus the bilstein shocks/lowering spring setup. It doesn't feel to me like a sports spring/shock setup when you drive it anyway. It's mad, I was actually looking for a price on a bilstein shock and lowering spring setup to solve that problem when I found that info by pure coincidence! Slight fear of ruining it's comfort though.

Came with winter tyres. Scary yolks. The backs were lethal. Michelins but 10 years old and a 60 profile, Got 2 new potenze adrenilins for the back the other day. Only 90 quid each so happy out. He only had 3 so I'll do the fronts next weeks when the 4th arrives in. Will make some difference. There's decent avon winters on the front which I'll keep for the winter. They must be over heating or something. Perfect in the wet but 20 minutes of driving on a dry backroad makes them twitchy on the brakes into a sharp corner.

Didn't know they had a 140 and a 144hp 1.8. 2001> is 140 for euro 3 emissions. Mines early 2002 so I could have either. Presuming its the 144hp as it's a pre facelift .

@Interslice clean looking car especially the dash, seats and carpets look like they are brand new. The colour of the seats is really nice. I really like them alloys on the alfas too. Seems like a very nice car overall well wear :)

Strut brace adapted from some other car for the Alfa? Well, the Alfas shock tower adapted for the strut brace?

I used to work with a guy that was still complaing decades after owning some FIAT that had some elctronic module fixed to the shock tower so it picked up as much vibration as possible... your photo reminded me of that :-)

I am getting worried I dont remember how to drive manual anymore, I have now been driving Automatic now for longer than I did manual. Better make sure the new car is manual.

The Smart Roadster is out as an option for a 2nd car as they are still about 2k over priced and from visiting the owners forums they are plagued with issues. I still want a really small car under 1L but want to avoid getting a Micra(which might happen)

I have found some rough Honda Beats and suzuki cappuccinos, not many more options and unfortunately the the MX5 engine is too big.

Thought strut brace at first myself but one mounting point didn't make sense. A half arsed attempt maybe. Looks like it was maybe there from the factory although hard to tell. Rubber bumpstops for the bonnet maybe.

Is the chaser old enough to go on a vintage policy if you have a second car is that the way your trying to work it ? I assume you still pay normal cc tax though.

Cheers lad, its clean enough alright. The door really lets it down at the moment though. Got it fairly cheap because of this. I think it would have put most people off buying it. Hopefully one will show up in the next couple of weeks. I'll tip over to kilcock saturday or next week for a gander. Need to pick up a spotlight for the front anyway. Glass is broken in one of them. Hopefully find a nice steering wheel too. I do like the wheels. Always thought the spoked ones looked better but these have grown on me. Look well when they're clean.

im assuming a standard 15 saloon door will fit? Would you then paint the door or paint the whole side? could be quite costly

According to partsfinder mcbrides in kilkenny have a serious amount of 156 some estates too. They would definitely be worth calling I know kilkenny might be a trek but if it meant getting the right door in the right colour. Also if your into your scrap yards they don't get much bigger or better than mcbrides people travel from every county in Ireland to them.

Edit: They have a 1999 blue estate 1.8 there if you were lucky it could be the same blue

Front doors are the same. Years are different looms, 1998 to 2001 is different from 02 on

Re strutbrace all 156's have that piece that looks drilled. The turrets are welded to the bulkhead across the type 3 platform

Kilkennys a bit out of the way but not much of a detour if im going go cork and back, though its normally a late evening job. I'll have a gander in kilcock first and see there after.

Cheers dgt, could well have saved me hassle there!

It's was my third time to visit a petrol station in 6 days today as I don't want to put loads of diesel in this only to discover my own car is ready. Still it gets annoying I much prefer filling it once a week.

I think the best thing to do and I've only recently got into doing it is brim the car and when it starts to drop back to below half a tank fill it again or once a week which ever comes first. Obviously if you were doing huge mileage every week this probably wouldn't work as you'd want to let it drop back more.

I reserved a mid size sedan.

I don't care what you reserved, we're in the business of selling insurance and overpriced gas...

Wtf I meant to post this in the car insurance excess thread?????

Have started filling the tank all the time now at a cheap esso or the maxol at home. Gets me to cork and back with a drop left to keep me going until the next trip. Used to never do it because it would just be used up far quicker. Was going to say im older and wiser but this is still true :v

How do you find maxol. I always buy topaz but a few have said maxol is good. Tbh I wouldn't generally use the car more or less depending on the fuel level. I like keeping the tank full but don't like spend 70 quid plus on fuel in one go hence why I like to keep it reasonably full and that way it will only cost me 45 euro or so. Plus it's no harm having an emergency supply so you can get somewhere late if the situation arises as there isn't too many 24 hour petrol station in kilkenny.

Finally came up with a workable topic for my thesis which I'm fairly certain fits the criteria and an area I'm quite interested in

Christ that's gorgeous..... I really have this urge to polish it though? Hahaha

That leather is the only interior to have, beautiful caramel colour.

Good price on the tyres too, I do hope it serves you well! What made you decide to have one anyway? I'm just curious!

A work colleague is changing his car, anyone recommend cars like golf etc, looking from 08-10, he's a young guy but no boy racer.

Renault megane 3 ideally one that has keys :pac:

Newer model astra likes yours although I'm sure you've thought of that one. Kia ceed or i30 which you kind of either love them or hate them.

Is it a diesel or petrol he's looking for I suppose that affects it as well.

yeah, it would still be over 1000 euro a year to tax but a classic policy would allow me to Drive the Chaser less and add mods which the normal insurance does not allow. (oil pressure gauge, a real exhaust, bigger turbo)

The idea is I could buy a Micra for 900 euro tomorrow, 199 tax a year, 300 euro to insure. Put the Chaser on a classic policy for 450 and the times I drive the Chaser my wife can drive the Micra. I may be way off and it could actually cost me money. But I am worried it will be next to impossible to insure the Chaser when it reaches 20 years old.

Diesel as he'll be doing a lot of mileage, he doesn't like the Kia or Hyundai's or Focus, I told him the best thing to do is test drive as many as you can and see which one you love to drive, just kinda looking for other models

Ah even if it cost you slightly more overall it means that you can insure your chaser easier and add the mods plus you gain a car and having the second car could come in useful the odd time too it does definitely make sense. Plus if you stick to something mechanically simple like an old micra it means there is less to go wrong and it will be cheap to fix if something does go wrong.
