Thinking of having shakshuka for dinner, but can't decide what to have with it. Anyone have any nice (not spicy) couscous recipes?

The Cooking Club has lemon cous cous by foodaholic or pomegranate cous cous by GrahamThomas.

Oh god that looks good!! That might be my egg dinner this week. No help with the couscous recipe unfortunately, the only one I eat regularly has a rake of chili in it

Just looking at the Seven O'Clock Show on TV3 and they had a chef on making a dish, pork belly with veg.

    His hygiene is atrocious.

He took the pork belly out of the pan by his hands to plate up and then licked his fingers before moving it to another plate. Then he mixed up the dressing with a spoon, tasted it with the same spoon, and then used the same spoon to drizzle the dressing in the dish.

My boyfriend used to do that sometimes when I was cooking, take a spoon and taste whatever was cooking, then put the spoon back into the dish. Really turns my stomach when anyone does that. Ugh.

I also hate when someone sticks their fingers into something you're are/have cooked, even if they have clean hands. I also can't stand is when I am cutting up a roast or something and someone comes along and starts picking the skin off the meat. Keeps your hands to yourself and stop mauling other peoples' food! Eugh!

Not so bad when it's your partner, or at a push someone you know, but a stranger is a definite no no.

    Hi,

I am torn between 2 recipes for my Cooking Club contribution. One is a very tasty dessert that's an absolute cinch to make. The other is a meat dish that quite laborious. Both taste really good. I'm a little embarrassed how easy the dessert is so hence my reservation. I've made both, with photos n'all, so which one do ye want??!!!

Whichever you choose, maybe post the other one in the Random Recipes thread. They both sound good!

I'd say an easy peasy crowd pleaser dessert please! I think the meat dish is probably great but if you've a new, simple desert that could be assembled quickly after a time consuming starter and mains for a dinner party for example then I'd love to see it please!

I love the idea of an easy, tasty dessert!

But yes, you'll have to, at some point, share both with us. Because I am v. curious about the meat dish too.

OK....dessert it is and the mains will go in the random recipe thread with a warning that it's a tad labourious!

In terms of replies and feedback, you're likely to get more attention with an easy dessert than a laborious main ;)

    Fantastic recipe, thanks very much.

You say in the recipe that it's used with Neven's permission. How did you ask him? :D

I gave the restaurant a call. I was put on hold and then I got the nod!

Great place too by the way. Had a meal there about 5 years ago and can still taste the lamb!

yeah, looks like it could work in a slow cooker too.

    Hey everyone,
i don't get to come on here much but love to see what's going on here when i can.

Im cooking a 3 course meal for my husband's birthday tomorrow and haven't cooked something that big in quite a while. the only thing im worried about are my timings.

Im cooking scallops wrapped in prosciutto ham with a balsamic vinegar and salad. Now i have bought fancy tomatoes but not sure if i should put them in with the salad or not. ???

The main im cooking chicken stuffed with mascapone cheese and mushrooms and a potato gratin with brocalli and asapargus.

Desert im making a raspberry alfredo with lemoncello. I'm going do that tonight as has to be done the day before. so i don't need to worry about that.

    Hi mollybird,

I suppose the tomatoes would be nice with the salad alright.

If it was me I would put the mains (chicken & gratin) into the oven just before serving the starter. Enjoy the starter with a glass of wine and if you're waiting a bit have another glass! I think it's always nice to have a break between starters and mains and it's a good chance just to talk.

A few things I do for any meal like this:

Have the music ready to go
Have the table fully set in advance with water in glasses and the wine (if you're having some) open and good to go
I always boil a full kettle when serving mains - helps reduce the time to make coffees for dessert
Stick the plates in the microwave for 90 seconds to warm them

Let us know how you get on.

+1 to all of the above, especially the bit about having starter with drinks, and if dinner isn't ready yet, more drinks. Do you have enough plates to do everything without washing them in between? If not, I'd say head off to Dunnes and buy some more, it'll save you a ton of hassle. I learned that when trying to wash eighteen tea plates to use again for dessert, shoving dirty dinner plates and pots and pans out of the way as I went - never again!
