I gave the restaurant a call. I was put on hold and then I got the nod!

I was going to ask you that! I'm very impressed that A) you went to that effort, and B) he obliged! Maybe he'll contribute a recipe for next year ;)

Anyone been watching Inside the Factory on BBC 2? Just finishing now.

The scale of the milk production is incredible. Also, cows milking themselves through robots?!

Didn't see it but yea robotic milking parlous are becoming common enough. The cows learn quick enough how to walk in and stand in place, a cousin of mine has one in near me.

Picked up this in Tesco the other day, any idea what sauce to put with it?

    http://www.tesco.com/groceries/Product/Details/?id=262060550

Don't normally eat ravioli so really not sure what would go with it best.

Himself is away until the middle of the week, cooking for one is utterly depressing. :(

When I'm home alone I'll often get stuffed pasta like that and just stir though some sundried tomato pesto before eating

Whenever I have shop bought ravioli I make a really simple Arrabiata sauce. Really simple and costs less that a shop bought sauce.

Splash of Olive Oil into a frying pan on a medium heat. Add a crushed clove of garlic, pinch of dried chilli flakes (or you can use fresh), and about 5 or 6 torn up Basil leaves (you can actually use Oregano here instead, although it would be Arrabiata sauce!). Let it all fry for about a minute to cook out the rawness of the garlic, but try not to colour it.

Then add a tin of chopped tomatoes, a squeeze of tomato puree, a pinch of salt and pepper, and small pinch of sugar.

Let it all bubble away for about 10 minutes. Keep an eye on it and give it a stir every couple of minutes. If it's too dry you can add some of the water from the pasta.

    Serve over the pasta.

I make this all the time and it's genuinely one of those dishes that takes just 10 mins to make.

I've had it with a simple tomato and basil sauce, it was nice. That's what they suggest on the Tesco website too!
Really like the idea of a sundried tomato pesto though too

Thanks everyone. Just wondering - are there any sauces you'd recommend that don't have a strong taste of tomatoes? I generally wouldn't be a big fan of tomato flavoured sauces, I find them really, really bland and unappetizing?

The only one I usually eat is a Dolmio one (I know I know) in a jar that's called "creamy tomato pasta bake", its in no way tomato flavoured (I can't taste tomatoes anyway and neither can anyone I've cooked it for).

Should probably have put this in my original post but didn't think to, sorry! :o

Google whatever type of sauces you like and make them fresh.

Dolmio and all other bottled sauces are doing no good for your health. Sauces are very very simple to make.. Give it a try. You wont regret it

And for them ravioli I would just fry them in butter.

Filled ravioli pre-bought are not the best. Butter adds to them more than anything for sure.

I am fully aware that jarred sauces are no good for my health, however I asked for suggestions on what sauce go best with that type of ravioli as its not something I eat often (I've had once or twice before) so I really don't know what to pair with it.

I quite like creamy sauces, and spicy sauces (like a spicy bolognese), however just because I like them it doesn't mean they actually pair well with it, which is why I asked for suggestions on what would go well with it.

I appreciate everyone taking the time and effort to responding to my question.

Bottled sauces are not "bad for health" any more than frying something in butter would be "bad for health"

However, doing either every day wouldn't be recommended. It's about balance, not "good" -v- "bad"

    Hi
I'm a newbie here. Is it possible to put pics of food here or not?
I made skewers of Lamb Kofta with tzatziki & spiced flat breads, so if anyone liked the look of it, & wanted to make it, they could copy recipe

Hi there & welcome to the forum.

You need to have more than 50 posts & be a member for at least 10 days before you can post links to pics here. Alternatively, you can upload them as attachments.

This is the general 'chat' thread. Have a look at the "Here's what I had for Dinner/Lunch/Breakfast..." threads as they will give you a feel for how others post about their recent meals.

Thanks, I've already posted something in the wrong place, and had to delete a quote on another thread.
    So...I'm in a straight jacket for a while ^^ as a newbie.

Maybe make a mushroom cream sauce. I normally just fry the mushrooms in butter till they start to brown, add a splash of wine to the pan (I normally use white but you might want to use red given it is in the pasta) and add some cream and chopped fresh herbs.

Here's some useful threads for you:

The 'Here's what I had for dinner last night' thread

What did you have for lunch thread

What did you have for breakfast thread?

The Random Recipe thread (part of the Cooking Club forum)

If you'd like to post recipes, it would be great if you could post them in the Random Recipe thread because that helps us keep the recipes together :)

Holy Moly look at the price per Kg of pork crackling strips in M&S:eek::eek::eek:

I hope my friends appreciate the fact that 6 of us ate about €40 worth of crackling as nibbles with drinks before dinner at our place last week!
