Drove my first 151 car just there. Was a mondeo zetec, 1.6. Lovely car to drive, so smooth, real drivers car, you wouldn't even know you are going 100k. Could drive all day. Has loads of features like stop start, which can be disabled, button handbrake, parking sensors front and back. It was a 1.6 and was a tad slower off the mark than my own, but once it was going, it was grand. Not a major fan of the centre area, too cluttered. You're more enclosed in the mk5, b pillars and doors seem to be better built.

Stop start is possibly the worst feature I've seen in modern cars. I honestly cannot see the point of it or any benefit to be honest

Was the clutch actually slipping/ worn or was it the dmf gone ?

the clutch was slipping, but mainly because the slave cylinder was fooked.

Ya, quite annoying. I don't know if she got it disabled at the dealer or did it herself. All I know is that it was permanently off, i.e You don't need to turn it off each time you start the car.

I thought it was a good enough feature. In my dad golf you just pull to the lights take your get of everything in neutral car knocks of handbrake comes on itself when you want to take off car starts and handbrake knocks off itself just as you move of you can't even feel the handbrake going on and off it doesn't feel like it's holding the car back and then letting it off.

I don't think my new car has stop start but not a 100% but I didn't notice any buttons for it so I assume it doesn't have it. I'm not too bothered either way.

The brother is looking to get it permanently disabled in his civic too.

The timming belt is not to big of a job to do on them as timming belts go. I had to change mine early as the crank shaft seal went and pissed oil all over the timming belt. Interval is something like 200k km or 10 years Id be doing it a lot earlier than that. What mileage is on it ?

AFAIK the dealer has the full service history with him. High km on it but it only had one previous owner who done 99% of their driving on the motorway from Cork to Belfast. It all depends on what kinda insurance quotes I get tomorrow for it whether i'll purchase or not :)

I am not telling anyone until I have it :) All going well the golf is being collected tomorrow night by new owner. I'm then Carless until Friday when I collect my new one. The dealer has a few bits to do to it so I said I'd give them the week I put a deposit on it last Friday. Ah it's nothing special or flashy but it's a nice comfortable cruiser that ticks all the boxes and it's not a golf 1.4 so that must be a bonus going on what's said here about them.

They made a fortune last week, selling the car. Went for a world record.

After looking at that, I'd say it's going to be a recurring thing. The car last week was beautiful though, an Aston Martin.

I still personally wouldn't but I mean if the car is 100% and they are willing to stand over it to a certain extent. Are we talking well over 100k miles ?

Would you not consider something petrol thats a bit simpler with less to go wrong. One thing I can't understand is you really wanted a mini and because you can't insure the supercharged version you completely write them of the list why not look at a few standard minis they would still be nippy enough.
